Complaining
-When does this become a sin?
-Is it a sin if you complain about it raining on a special day?
-Is it a sin for not having enough money?

Love
-Is it bad to love someone?
-Is it bad to love the world?

Lying
-Is joking around lying?
-Is "Just kidding" lying?
-Is lying to surprise someone a sin?

Gossip
-When is spreading news gossip?
-Is telling a trusted person what someone did to you a sin?

Jesus, Peace and Family
Now, I read that Jesus said if you do not hate your family or peers, you cannot be a disciple of Christ.
Also, he said he didn't bring peace, but a sword upon the Earth. What did he mean by that?

That's quite a list :)

Is it a sin to complain? ....probably since we're told to give thanks in all circumstances. Understandable if it's highly inconvenient but still that would mean that we are irritated because something, like the weather, is causing us problems. The farmers are probably very happy it's raining :) Then it would be a selfish complaint. Complaining means we're seeing what we don't have, instead of what we DO have.

I don't see how it's bad to love someone; unless it is 'forbidden' love then we are to run the opposite direction as fast as possible.

Depends on what you mean by 'love the world'. We are to love God's creation but obviously there's things in this fallen creation that we are not to love.

Joking around can mean a lot of things. No one should get their feelings hurt in the joking and everyone should be able to see that it's just joking...then it's not really lying. If you led people to really believe what you're saying, then it's lying.

I doubt lying to surprise someone is a sin...as long as it's a good 'surprise' ?. Brings up the question if letting children think there's a santa clause is a sin...it's obviously lying. I'm guilty, but it's so much fun and they like it too. I loved thinking there was a Santa Clause myself :). I could just clobber my neighbor who took great joy in telling me there was no Santa.

Spreading news is not gossip unless it damages someone's reputation or harms someone in some way. Always side with caution when in doubt.

When telling a trusted friend what someone else did to you... I guess your motive would be important there. It would depend on the circumstances.

When Jesus said you had to hate your family, he didn't really mean 'hate'. Elsewhere he talks about loving family members. I think He meant that your love for Him should be so great, that your love for your family is like hate in comparison. Is that hyperbole? Can't remember the name of that literary technique that was used quite a bit back then.

I think the sword that Jesus was talking about was the power of the Holy Spirit to defeat Satan. He also reprimanded Peter for using his sword on the soldier in the Garden of Gethsemane; but also when he sent out the disciples he told them that if they didn't own a sword, to buy one...interesting to think about.

You have picked out some REALLY good questions about the Scriptures. You have definitely been thinking about what you're reading...EXCELLENT ! :)

I think anytime you have to ask, "Is this wrong?" Your heart already has some convictions about it. You wouldn't ask if chewing gum was wrong? Right?
When Jesus speaks about not coming to bring peace but a sword, He simply means, when you are following after christ, most of the time it causes division between the people you really care about.
How hard is it to follow Christ when, say...your father doesnt feel the same way about Him. You want to please God, but the pressures and influences around you don't partner up.
Then you really feel that lack of peace, but rather division.
But when it comes to Christ, he would expect you to even deny your own mother in order to be in right standing with him. Tough road huh? This is what he was saying to the people of God.
you know, i always say to my family members. As much as I love you, I will never go to Hell for you. but I 'll do everything Godly to bring you with me to Heaven.
Think on this.

I don't think there's need to overcomplicate it. If it hurts someone, or hurts your conscience (deeeeeeeep down when you lie down to sleep and are alone with your thoughts and realize you probably shouldn't have done that thing earlier), it's a sin.
If it delights someone (like in a surprise party), it's harmless. :)
That can apply to all of your questions actually.

Love
-Is it bad to love someone?
-Is it bad to love the world?
People and the world need all the love they can get. Real love is a pure and beautiful thing. I don't understand your question. Unless you define here "love" as obsession. In which case that's different.

in the case of the world yes its bad, cause you cannot serve both God and money or worldly things, even though we live here, and avoid worldly pleasures cause they are like dis tractors that impede your spiritual walk.

sin is much more than the outward appearance. Not only should your actions be pure, but so should your thoughts.

The answer to the first half of your Title Question is:

James 1:12-15 Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. 13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. 14 But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. 15 Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death. -NKJV

Those verses describe how sin works, and so we see that it all begins with desire and enticement, then the desire when it is conceived , it gives birth to sin and then sin when it is fully grown will ultimately bring death...and so that is the whole Operation of how ''Sin'' works in the human life.

We think of sinful things and then we act them out, so when do actions become sins? well, they become sins when you already have the obligation to go and act them out.
