Hi, I really want to be a Christian and I try all the time to do what Christians should... but I have a constant nagging in the back of my mind ( Is this real or are you just talking to yourself ) My entire family is Christian and I'd actually never thought much about faith until now... my best friends are both Christian.

I've gotten to the point where I want so badly to believe and I really do want to give my life to Christ... but I just can't bring myself to do it... I pray every other night, and I've found that when I pray and read my devotions and the bible my whole life seems brighter and everything gets better, but I dated an athiest for a year and most of my other friends are athiest... and I accept their lifestyle choices and I'm not going to try and convert them and rick losing the relationships. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I am easily influenced, when I'm around my boyfriend my beliefs seem to slide and his points make sense and then when I'm with my Christian friends I suddenly feel like a new Christian and I go back to the old me again...

I just need any advice I can get from anyone to help me.... I haven't been saved yet, I just need something to erase all my doubt.

Please can someone help me...

Something that might really help, is seperate yourself a bit from your friends that do not believe in God, it can effect you! Get closer to your Christian friends and make new Christian friends...better influences can be a big help with that! trust me..I really literally just got out of a similar situation...I was almost sure I did not believe in God! Fight thoughs thoughts! I just maybe two months ago became sure in my belief in God, before that I doubted for about three yrs solid!

I'll try it, Thank you :) The timing is quite perfect, because I decided to take a break from my athiest boyfriend and he's heading off to America for a few years anyway! And I've decided to go back to my Christian boarding school in July

Good Idea...and having an athiest bf is not all that good of an idea anyways, because he would have more influence over you then anyone else!

You need to trust in the blood of Jesus for your salvation. We are saved by the cross of Jesus.
What he said.

Trying to live like a Christian should is worth nothing unless one is saved. I don't mean to say that what you have done is worthless; you are seeking God, and that is worth every bit of effort you put into it. However, unless one has been saved, living a Christian life is no possible feat. Also, if you want to guard against those doubts, you'll need Christ (who you receive when you are saved).

Before I say anything else, if I'm being redundant (I imagine you've probably heard a lot of this), sorry :p

God wants us to receive salvation as a gift. Salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, that God raised Him from the dead.

There are some things we need to realize, and it all ties into one thing: we need Jesus.
Romans 3:23 point out that we're all sinners. Every single one of us.
John 3:16 is one among many verses that mentions Jesus is God's Son.
2nd Corinthians 5:21 says that God made Jesus to be sin for us; He died for our sins.
Matthew 24:1-3 explain that Jesus rose from the tomb on the third day.

With Jesus comes forgiveness of sins, in which we receive forgiveness for our past, present, and future sins. Every single sin that you have committed, are committing, and will commit have been taken care of; you just need to receive! Once you have received salvation, you will no longer be in bondage to sin! Your name will be written in the Lamb's Book of Life, and you will be granted access to heaven. Not only these things, but the 'eternal life' in which John 3:16 speaks of can be said as what John 17:3 describes - having a personal relationship with God! And there's so much more...

Once we have realized those things, Romans 10 gives us information on how we must go about believing, if you will (it's explained better in the passage, I would encourage you to read the chapter):
v. 9-10 "that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."

I've got a prayer here that you can pray which involves all of the above. I'll tell you up front - this prayer doesn't mean anything unless you believe it in your heart.

"I realize that Jesus is God's Son.

That He died for our sins.

We're all sinners.

He rose on the third day.

Jesus, come into my heart and be my personal savior. Christ is Lord. In Jesus' name, Amen! Thank you for saving me, Jesus!"

Believe these things and what you say when you say it, and you will have received salvation. It's that simple :)

If you're afraid that you don't believe or didn't believe when saying that, let me ask you this: would you have said it if you didn't believe? And if you don't think you believe before receiving salvation, ask God to take away the unbelief you have beforehand, and take a leap of faith, confessing the above while believing God has taken away the unbelief. Unless someone can tell me otherwise with this reasoning, I think it's full-proof.

I've got something else for you, too - you mentioned that you want to give your life to Christ, right?
Check this out:
Romans 12:1 - "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service." This is a daily thing; we can start running the race, but we will never arrive at the finish line - i.e. be perfect - until we get to heaven. Focusing on this has helped me with some track to run on as far as giving my life to God, and I believe it can help you a lot, too :)

I know that's a lot up there, but I really think it'll help you, and I hope it does, even if only a sentence helped.

God bless you, Cally :) I'll be praying for you!

Wow, thank you so much :) I actually almost got saved once, it was during worship and my local youth group where I was so ovecome with emtion that I stood up to be saved, and the youth leader asked me a few questions, I was so close and in the end I couldn't do it because I wasn't sure if I truly believed... Needless to say I cried the whole night and actually ended up praying more than I ever had before. The feeling of loss for something I thought I didn't believe in was so great that it actually strengthened my beliefs that Jesus really is up there...

You put in such a great deal of effort here, I really appreciate it! I've read it and reread it and now I'm taking my bible out and reading all the verses you listed...

And I think that tonight, I might just feel it in my heart to say that prayer and mean it completely... I am so glad that everyone here is so helpful... I have decided to surround myself with good Christian people instead of athiests and others who aim to plant doubt :)

Bless you :)

One must not be concerned with losing their friends.

Faith is more important.

Forgive me for not having the verse, I'll see if I can find it later, but the basics of what it says is not to be unequally yoked, or in other words be in a relationship with someone who has another religions,

Looks like you really DO believe but may have to overcome the social stigma about Christianity that you have gotten from your atheist friends.

Announcing to the world that you are a Christian will affect how they see you.....that's the advantage of having Christian friends :0)

Lose the 'world'...gain your soul :)

I will try, I pray everynight for Christ to keep me strong enough to turn away from those who try to change my mind... Most of my bestfriends are Christian so, I will keep company with them and hopefully their certainty will help to keep me strong in faith!

THANK YOU :) :)

And then go back to the world with God's help and gain it for an inheritance Psalm 2:8 :)

Not advocating atheist boyfriends btw, ah yeah, God is good!

don't worry Cally you can do it!, I am sure that we have all been there once and the fight for faith is tough, but God is so much stronger and He can provide you ways and routes and I know for sure that if you look hard enough in your heart and mind you might find that treasure worth infinity :)
