I tried to keep my mind focused on Jesus, but other things got my attention. I'm telling you, if Jesus came back now, I don't think I would be ready. Nowhere near it. Plus, sin that is deliberate is dangerous. I hate it, yet I did it. Do I really have a changed heart? I don't know. I wanna grow in my relationship with Christ (if I even have one); but i dont know where to start. I'm trying to live every day as if it were my last day on Earth, but it's not working. NOTHING IS WORKING. I'm confused about EVERYTHING right now

Sky, you're not the only one who faces sin in the flesh. Read the following passage from the Bible.

"14 For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am of the flesh, sold under sin. 15 For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. 16 Now if I do what I do not want, I agree with the law, that it is good. 17 So now it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me. 18 For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out. 19 For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing. 20 Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me." Romans 7:14-20

Paul himself faced times of struggling with sin. The thing is, we all, until the day we die, are still within the realm of the flesh. And that means we will sin: sometimes intentionally, sometimes not. But how we handle our sin is what sets us apart.

As Christians, the very first thing we need to do is get things right with God. The minute we know we sin is repent and confess to God. And repentance is doing a 180, and walking away from sin. Sometimes that's not easy. Sometimes sin gains a hold of us, like addictions. And when that happens, we need to run to God immediately and beg Him to give us strength to overcome our weakness.

The only way we can ever overcome sin is by staying close to God, and that is through prayer and studying the Bible, which can be a very hard thing to do at times. I don't know what your prayer and Bible Study is like, but I suggest if your not then start. It's not easy, I know, to remain consistent. But it is important. And I admit, there are times when I'm not reading or praying like I should, and that's when I start drifting from God.

However, if you are doing all this, you are reading the Bible and praying, then it's time to ask yourself a couple of things. First, have you accepted Christ as your Savior. This means you have to acknowledge that you need a savior because of your sin. Until He's Lord upon your heart, you will never be able to change. Second, if you have accepted Christ as your Savior, then you need to ask yourself, are you really repentant in regards to your pet sin. If not, tell God this. Let Him know that your not repentant but that you want to be. Ask Him to help you change the desires of your heart to His. God will help you if you ask. But you have to ask.

It's good that you see that you deliberately sinned....learning to live a Christian life takes a lot of practice :) .

Take your repentance to God and ask for an extra dose of will power to resist next time. The more you resist, the easier it gets.

Praying for strength and guidance for you sweetie. Remember, since God forgives us, we have to forgive ourselves (else we're putting ourselves above God). True repentance will keep us from doing the same sin over and over.

If it's a sin that you're REALLY struggling with, having an accountability partner may help. God does give us people in our lives who can help us in our Christian walk. Thank God!

Praying for strength and guidance for you in this area of your life :)

It happened again. This is stupid. Why can't I just have a renewed mind already? Why is this happening? I hate myself so much. Just knowing that we sin every day makes me fear every day of my life. If I were to die today, I'm not sure where I'd go.

Skydoogie, just let go! :) Seriously, you cannot be good by yourself. Pray your own words, but something like this helped me: "Lord Jesus, I'm not going to lie to you and say I want to be good. I want to sin. Please change my heart Lord, I give it to you in your name. Please fill me with your Holy Spirit. And Lord, you told us to 'let this mind be in you which was in Christ Jesus'. Jesus, please give me that mind. I will never measure up on my own. Thank you Lord. Amen."

I hope this helps, like I said it helped me. -JIM

And I'm always angry and anti-social. I don't have any real true friends. Well, I used to have one. We're kinda separated because we go to different schools. Anyway, that's beside the point. I need hope.

We aren't cars to Jesus's person to drive the car. God doesn't want to possess us so that we have no responsibility for ourselves. How would we have any rewards if we didn't actually earn them? How is obedience real without action from the discipline that we produce from ourselves? Self-discipline is a fruit of the Spirit, whatever that tells us.. I'm really not sure what help that is honestly. Thanks again for vague Bible sayings.

Also don't be ridiculous, there is hope for people that don't use Christ. For drug abusers a lot of times all they need is some intensive they can see, like they're wife saying I'll leave you if you don't go to rehab. So they go to rehab and are all better... WITHOUT LETTING JESUS TAKE CONTROL. (whatever that means anyway)

Honestly, I don't want to offend you, but you are no help in this. You are discouraging, when skydoggie needs someone to encourage him.

Skydoggie, my heart goes out to you and you are in my prayers.

Skydoggie, I don't know your story, but God does and He is there and He is waiting for you to accept him and be free from burden, sin and shame.

If you already accepted Christ in your life, the devil is busy lying to you right now. Lying about your future, telling you you are not good enough, and you need to earn and deserve your salvation and that there is no hope for you. But God tells you that He has a bright future for you. Plans for you to prosper.

What you need to understand, salvation isn't earned. Yes, as christians we are to try to come closer to God and obey his commendments, we must work on our self-discipline and on making the right choices day by day.

But Jesus went to die on a cross for you, not because you look pretty and are a nice person and are a good person by the world's standards. He did it because He loved you so much. You will never deserve what He did on the cross, but are privileged to receive that gift from him....and believe me it's the biggest and most wonderful gift you can ever receive.

At one point in the Bible...I think in 1 John it says: I'm writing all of this to you brother and sisters, so you may not sin....but if you do, we have an intercessor, Christ. So yes, your life as a christian is a constant battle. Sometimes you are strong and win, sometimes you are weak and fail. Work hard and make your faith be shown through your actions, but your actions won't bring you to heaven.

Instead rely on God, rely on His mercy and on His love and forgiveness. Don't use it as an excuse to live the same lifestyle but accept that you are not perfect and that you NEED Jesus and His mercy.

Love
Meems

Brandon, you obviously didn't read my first response. If you had, maybe you would understand that my second response is a continuation of the first. And I do agree, people need to take responsibility for their actions. In neither response do I suggest the other.

And Brandon, :p to my little brother.

God does not expect you to attain the impossibly high expectations of mankind. Just accept his unconditional love and it will all work out.

You life will get better. Your faith will see you through all of this.

What you need to understand, salvation isn't earned. Work hard and make your faith be shown through your actions, but your actions won't bring you to heaven.
She's comparing Ephesians 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, that no one would boast" with James 2:18 "Yes, a man will say, You have faith, and I have works. Show me your faith without works, and I by my works will show you my faith." Meaning that a true, living faith is evidenced by the fact that the person does good deeds." So yeah, that alone is a contradiction, as far as I can tell, but the twist is that somehow those two verses still fit together in reality. The only problem with that is, those aren't the only two verses on the matter. There's also the Sheep and goats parable (Matthew 25: 31-46) where it lists a host of things people need to do to go to heaven and then there's, those who do not forgive will go to hell. Don't believe me? Jesus was the one who said it. Mark 11:26 "But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your transgressions." Then Revelation 21:8 says that liars and cowards, among other things will be burned as apart of the second death. "But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars--their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death." All those who are cowards will have their time in the lake of fire.

SKY -- I promise I'm not talking down to you but 17 is a hard age in itself less alone trying to live your life for the Lord.

I say if you truly love Jesus and you have asked Jesus into your heart, Asked him to be your Lord and Savior, Repent your sins to him and I mean every night, because he sees them. Believe he defeated death and is sitting to the right hand of the father .. JUST ASK HIM TO MAKE YOU WHAT HE WANTS and turn it over to him.

Understand you will never be perfect, but we should all try to be a better person. Just listen to the Holy Spirit inside of you and just love yourself the way you love Jesus and when you fall pick yourself up, repent, and put your eyes back on Jesus, Tell him you are sorry and you love him.

Romans 8:28 The lord works all things together for good to those who love him.

I can completely relate. Sometimes it doesn't feel like I'm going anywhere. But trust me, if you are showing concern with your walk with Christ, then you have the Holy Spirit building inside of you. Because someone who doesn't take concern on if they are moving ahead in Christ, isn't getting anywhere. <3 Cheer up. Think positive. And as cliche as this sounds, pray on it. Let me know if I can do anything to help!

And I messed up AGAIN. Seriously, I thought I was doing great! I even made a big deal about Jesus dying for my sins. I prayed every day. Why isn't this stopping? UGH. I'm not sure of my salvation. I'm not.

^ This is the exact reason why we are saved by GRACE (which means getting what we do not deserve: Salvation)

Yes, we should obviously do what we can to stop sinning, strive to be like Christ. However, Christ died because we cannot do this.
(Otherwise we could all just stop sinning and it would be no problem).

Try to find out what triggers it, and then distract yourself with something that is good for you :) And talk to God, always. It helps a lot.

Hey! I just want you to know you are not alone! Many people even Christians feel the same way or can relate to you. Here's the thing though this verse that comes to my mind is Psalm 46:10 "Be still and know that I am GOD" ...my friend take heart in this mass confusion to BE STILL ...yes we mess up we are incline to because we are human and God's forgiveness is far greater then we can comprehend. Just look at what God did to save us from our sins "mess ups" he sent his son Jesus to die for our sins and to raise three days later to be our Savior! Now that's totally awesome! Also confusion comes from Satan for God is of peace so try to be still and let God speak to you! You'll be ready! Hang in there!

Blessings,

Keep your eyes on what's important here. You have the fear of God, and that's a good thing. Dozens of times in the Bible it tells us to have the fear of God in our hearts. It's what kept me from straying from the faith myself. There is a certain wisdom to the sorrow and sober-mindedness that comes from a regretful heart. God loves when you regret doing evil, because He wants better for you. Bare the guilt in a healthy way. If you've done something wrong own up to it as you do, yet still remembering God is willing to look over it if you commit yourself to baring His cross every day. A win is only promised to those who endure to the end. And Revelation 2:17 says "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give him a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to him who receives it."

This is the real deal. Your decisions matter not just to you, but to God. This is serious. James 1:12 says, "Blessed is the man who endures temptation, for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life, which the Lord promised to those who love him."
