Masturbation is wrong. The body should be kept in purity and reserved only for two purposes:
1. Intimacy with your married spouse
2. Reproduction

The advice I give to people on this subject is to get a book that Earnest Anglin wrote on the topic. His wife passed away and he has chosen to never marry again. He sought the Lord for answers on this and the gave him answers. The book is addressed to teenagers, but applies to all singles. Hope this will help you. Sorry don't remember the name of it, but I'm sure when you look up the titles of his books you will know which one it is. It is on purity.

All our actions should glorify God, that just pleases self.
It is mainly rooted in lust, which seeks only to please self.

Galatians 5:17
New International Version (NIV)

[SUP]17 [/SUP]For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever[SUP][a][/SUP] you want.

Great question, the worst of it in my opinion is what takes place while you're masturbating. What are you thinking about? Jesus revealed that having sex with someone in your mind is the equivalent of having sex.

Lemmie put it this way. If you have urges for some recurring habit of any sort at all, you are human.
I have a feeling God will be equally annoyed with all humans no matter what we do. Masturbation doesn't seem that different from other stuff we do to feed our hungers.
Overeating, excessive video game play, impulsive spending, blahblahblah you name it.

Yeah, and those things are wrong, and we don't excuse them as 'well, i'm just human'. So why would we make a special excuse for masturbation.

To the OP, masturbation is about 2 things. One, lust. Its about putting thoughts (and maybe visuals) into your mind about people being naked, and performing sexual acts on each other and these people are not a married couple. Its a fantasy and lust about someone.
Two, its about fulfilling selfish desires. Masturbation is all about thinking about what you want and makes your view of sex self centered, so that when you do marry, you have spent years viewing sex from only satisfying yourself, and not having to have any concern for the other person.

If you think those two traits are acceptable to God, and the way He wants us to live, then its ok. But, its not rocket science to know that God does not approve of these ways of thinking. It doesn't have to be spelling out in the bible for your to put two and two together to come to an obvious conclusion.

Yes it's wrong, but what's equally as wrong is the thoughts that goes through your head as your doing it. Also, you can become addicted and it can take over your life. I encourage you NOT to do this, and stay pure.

Is masturbation wrong? some of my friends think its normal.....advice???
It is hard and at time I feel myself reasoning "why has God
made me with this capacity", but I do that only to litigate and
mitigate what he teaches us through the bible. So I must constanly
remain faithful and honest to God and remind myself to stop selfish
reasoning.

As for the question of masturbation here are some words I find on
the subject;

One of God’s finest gifts is
marriage, along with the ability and desire to reproduce. (Genesis
1:28)

The Bible commends finding sexual
enjoyment with one’s own mate. (Proverbs 5:15-19)

Sexual appetite cannot go unrestrained.
As a comparison, consider our desire for food. That we have a
returning appetite does not mean that we ought to develop an
inordinate craving for food, or that we need no control as to when,
where, and how we eat. (Proverbs 25:16, 27)

Paul may once have been married, and he
knew that normal sexual expressions between mates were fitting. (1
Corinthians 7:1-5)

So he had to be referring to something
else when he wrote: “Deaden, therefore, your body members that are
upon the earth as respects fornication, uncleanness, sexual appetite,
hurtful desire, and covetousness.” (Colossians 3:5)

He must have meant sexual expressions
beyond the proper marital setting and means. The apostle also said:
“Each one of you should know how to get possession of his own
vessel in sanctification and honor, not in covetous sexual appetite.”
(1 Thessalonians 4:4, 5)

Jesus said: “Everyone that keeps on
looking at a woman so as to have a passion for her has already
committed adultery with her in his heart.” (Matthew 5:28) He knew
that passionate thoughts of adultery are often the precursors of
immoral acts. Yet, even those who excuse masturbation admit that it
usually involves sexual fantasies

With these scriptures in mind, ask
yourself some questions;

I hope some or all of this helps you
answer your questions.

Personally I dont think its wrong its a natural thing people do.

Sure jesus said purity should be maintaned but if what he also said is that if u think of killing some 1 you are allready as guilty as some 1 that has done it I figure That Premeditating on murder is worse than masturbation so Im going to be more concerned with my thoughts of all the ppl i want to wipe out rather than my thoughts of ppl id like to be with. and besides God looks upon the heart and knows about temptations and habit and all of us and where we are at. So to hell if its wrong or right shit happens adapt its just one more thing we will have to answer for at the judgement table . and for all u people that are like its wrong blah blah etc. Stop being so judgmental what u never make mistakes. I bet some most of you are guilty of burning an audio cd meaning u have all committed robbery so u should be more concearned with all your backed up music and dvds then masturbation.

AS for me Im going to do what i can to the best of my abilities no matter what it is because i have to answer for it all anyway and hell I rather do what i can to the best of my abilities with no regrets then sit there and cower in fear and try to force my self to stop doing somthing that has become a habit and natrual when i have asked gods help and it still doesnt change.

So to answer the question No i belive as long as u are ready to answer 4 what u have done then masturbation should be the least of your worries. PEACE OUT

I'm going to ramble a bit, so hopefully this will all make sense.

This is one of those topics that I wish the bible specifically stated whether masturbation was a sin or not, because it would have ended this debate long ago. Now, it is not specifically mentioned so this debate will continue for centuries. I think one can make an argument for or against masturbation and, ultimately, I think it comes down to an individual choice. We can all agree that lusting over someone is a sin, that's clear, but masturbation and lust are not mutually exclusive. One can masturbate while not thinking lustful thoughts. To say that masturbation is always fueled by lust is wrong, one can focus on the physical feeling and not think lustful thoughts about another person.

The other thing is that the bible specifically mentions many sexual sins such as fornication, adultery, rape, bestiality, & homosexuality; yet, masturbation is not mentioned anywhere. There really isn't anything that even eludes to it, so I take it as if it was a sin, it would have been mentioned along with all the other sexual sins that are talked about in the bible. We are all human and at times are going to face having sexual feelings and urges. It is only natural and with many people not marrying into their 30's, what is a Christian to do with those feelings. You can pray about them, yes, but that might not always take them away. So, if a person can masturbate to release that sexual tension in a healthy way without falling into fornication, I don't totally see the wrong in that.

This is similar to me as the thread about tattoo's. I think the issue of masturbation falls into the 'disputable matters' that Romans 14 talks about.

No, masturbation is not wrong, it is a part of being human, or move over, a mammal. Tigers practice sexual reproduction on one another before they are even sexually mature so why is is wrong for men and women to? Answer, it is not. I do not want to be rude here and it is not in my intentions to criticize or offend anyone, but lets for a second put the religious aspects aside and look at this in a more practical way, if you are a teenager or older and you have not masturbated for whatever reason that is NOT good, physically, mentally, and emotionally. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that it is all about sex, personally, I couldn't care less about sex, but when you get down to it, masturbation is not always about sex. Sometime it is simply the body's was of revealing itself and robbing your body of that is not only wrong in a human sense, but, and despite many protests against it, is impossible. EVERYBODY MASTURBATES (if you are a male...women is more like 75%...but I digress.) Everybody dose it and if they tell you they don't, then they are either lying or need to seek some medical help and get themselves to a private bathroom ASAP!

This idea that masturbation and lust can be mutually exclusive is ridiculous.
What did Jesus say?
How did He perfect the law?

Now, for those of you that say self gratification and lust are two different things; and that a person can 'relieve' themselves in a completely sinless fashion I would ask this:
Can artificial implements be used to reach your conclusion of sinless self gratification?
- Can a vibrator? (If you don't think on ANYONE else but yourself)
- - How about a vacuum pump? (Again, if you are only thinking righteous thoughts)
- - - How about a vacuum?
- - - -How about a pool suction motor?
- - - - How about a cattle prod?

I can see how this purely 'physical necessity' could be attained by artificial means using even the simplest device while looking at pictures of revered saints, or praying, or even reading the bible.

Don't spiritualize your carnal nature. - (That is how ALL of the religions of the world were formed)

Christianity is not a religion, it is a relationship.
