I'm usually known as the good christian boy in all of my social circles. I achieve highly in school, on most of the school sports teams, and attend church on a regular basis. If you met me, you wouldn't know that I am have a porn and masturbation addiction. I always tell myself and God that I will never do it again, but I always end up doing it again. I am constantly depressed and I always wonder if my life is worth living. I feel numb to the world, and its scary. I don't know what to do anymore. I have read on various forums and articles that it is due to teenage hormones, but I know it is a sin and that i shouldn't do it. But I just can't stop. Can somebody help me please? I want to devote myself to God, but I can't do that with this weighing on my soul.

'Teen hormones' is not the answer. The answer is spiritual warfare, and addiction. You can't quit because, likely, you have formed an addiction, similar to a drug or alcohol addiction. And just like those types of addiction, this kind needs more than just your attempt to quit. You need help. You need accountability. You need filters on any internet access.

Also, bear in mind there is guilt, and there is conviction. Conviction comes from God, it's what lets us know when we do wrong, and desire to change. Guilt is what satan uses. It brings us down, makes us feel worthless. Don't let satan trick you into guilt. Right now you are living in guilt and you need to come out of that. Here's a song you may find helpful. Even if you don't like the music, listen to the lyrics, they seem perfectly fitted for someone struggling with the guilt of addiction as a Christian...

I know this is a sensitive topic, but I truly believe that masturbation is healthy.

He also said porn. And masturbation is centered around lust, not sure how that is healthy spiritually.

Brother in Christ, know that you are not alone in this struggle.

I have recently overcome this myself...still have "hauntings" every now and then. It really takes more than just your own will and self-control to overcome this. You have to submit this to Christ, completely. You have to claim your freedom and victory from this sin. And also very important: you have to TRULY REPENT. As in not want to return to it, even the slightest bit. To be perfectly honest, during my struggles in the past, even though i prayed and supposedly repented, saying to GOD that i don't want to do it anymore...at the back of my mind, i didn't want to stop because i knew i would miss the feeling of that high, which i enjoyed so much then. That is the carnal flesh talking. The high that that activity gives you is undoubtedly very strong, and the pleasure it gives you is something you will definitely crave unless you see it for what it really is...

...SIN. An abhorrent act that is grievously offensive to the GOD we serve and love. A very destructive habit that pulls you away from HIS presence, able to paralyze you in your spiritual growth...making you virtually dead in spirit.

This has been touched earlier in an another post. Please read on it, and find comfort and encouragement. And most of all, your sure way to freedom from this and all other bondage, through the power of our awesome GOD and KING!

http://christianchat.com/christian-family-forum/63561-men-sexual-sin.html

I am here for you, as well as the other brethren, to pray for you continually, that you may find your true freedom in Christ alone. Seek HIM earnestly, brother. With all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength. HE is waiting for you to surrender completely all areas of your life. Waiting for you to trust in HIM and let HIM be your GOD. So still your body, and have faith. It is a challenge, but our GOD is above all things, and more than able to set you free :)

[h=3]1 Corinthians 10:13[/h]King James Version (KJV)

[SUP]13 [/SUP]There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

[h=3]James 4:7[/h]King James Version (KJV)

[SUP]7 [/SUP]Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

[h=3]1 Corinthians 6:18-20[/h]King James Version (KJV)

[SUP]18 [/SUP]Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.
[SUP]19 [/SUP]What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
[SUP]20 [/SUP]For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

[h=3]1 John 1:9[/h]King James Version (KJV)

[SUP]9 [/SUP]If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

[h=3]Ephesians 6:10-18[/h]King James Version (KJV)

[SUP]10 [/SUP]Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
[SUP]11 [/SUP]Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
[SUP]12 [/SUP]For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
[SUP]13 [/SUP]Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
[SUP]14 [/SUP]Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
[SUP]15 [/SUP]And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
[SUP]16 [/SUP]Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
[SUP]17 [/SUP]And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
[SUP]18 [/SUP]Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

GOD bless you and set you free completely, dear brother in Christ!!! :)

Thank you everyone for all your help. Before reading these replies I was so depressed that I nearly cried (and I never cry). I know God is watching me and revealed something to me through all of you.

But there is still one thing that I need guidance about. I don't know if blocking porn will help. It won't stop the temptation. I still get tempted by what I see at school and on T.V. that isn't even pornographic. How do I reduce the effects of temptation, because I cannot control what I see? I often ask God why there is so much temptation. I could stop sinning if He just helped to reduce the temptation around me.

There will always be temptation. The world is filled with it, there will always be that one "trigger" that brings it up in your mind, or remind you or tempt you to do this. This could be a test of will's for you. one thing i have been taught through my short 17 years of life is that, God doesn't give you something that you cant handle. Temptation is from the devil, it comes in many forms through out the world. See Jesus was tempted by the devil himself in Mark 1:13. the holy spirit sent Jesus into the desert for 40 days, after He was baptized by John. During these 40 days the devil would tempt Him. Jesus didn't eat or drink during this time and every time the devil would tempt and say "aren't you Jesus? why don't you do this or that?" Jesus over came and showed the devil his place. I personally believe that you can over come this. Even though i might not know you i know you can do this and I'm rooting for you, to over come this battle. I have had the same problem, and have overcome it. I have cracked and fell for the temptation. But i saw that what i was doing was affecting my family, friends, and most importantly me. I had my parents block all the temptation for me. and to this day a year after i knew i had a problem i still have it all blocked..... I know you can over come this. Ill be praying for you. and you need to pray for God to show you a way.

Sexual temptation has always been a problem with human beings but it's never been as big of a problem as it is now...thanks to technology and degrading moral values. No generation of young people have had THIS MUCH temptation all around them. It's going to take a lot of determination, prayer, and guidance to undo what's been done; and to keep it under control.

This is an addiction and Satan LOVES addictions. Please find help...a pastor may be able to direct you. Don't think you can do this alone...that's why it's called an addiction; not just a bad habit.

Fill your time with good things and lots of exercise. Stay away from areas that you know will lead you into temptation. Controlling our 'will' is key to changing any behavior. It takes practice and gets easier the more you do it.

Whether it's overeating, or overspending, or over-anything....we need to learn to control our will and not let it control us. Even Paul talked about not doing what he should. It's part of the human condition but we can control ourselves if we really want to; it definitely isn't easy.

Praying for you...there is a way out of this so don't give up hope. Find the resources. There's some on the internet but especially find a local organization. You're not the only one struggling with this. A support group can do wonders :)

You are not alone. I am also struggling through it and I find that every time I repent then I go right back to porn and bad websites because I'm bored. I'll be praying for you. I know how hard it is and I hope and pray that we can all conquer that temptation.
