I wasn't allowed to watch it growing up but I tried watching Family Guy once, it was really funny in some parts but in others it was completely inappropriate.

I, honestly, just liked trying to watch it for the laughs. All the other rude, disgusting or immoral references and such I do not appreciate.

Also, I've heard a lot of good things about South Park at school, guys would be quoting things and others would laugh. I am curious about that show too but my family tells me that South Park is bad.

>_< Anyway, I'm not saying either show is good necessarily, (they aren't) but I want to know your view on the matter.

I wouldn't let little kids watch them, but I have to admit that those shows are funny. I've only seen a few episodes of South Park, but I've seen a lot of Family Guy. I'm a big fan of cultural satire, and that's what makes these shows so great. There's a lot of inappropriate stuff, for sure, but there is brilliant satire to be found there.

South Park is very funny, and very cleverly written - more so than Family Guy, in my opinion. I recommend you try it.

i wanted to watch family guy when it first came out cause i had seen the previews and wanted to know if it was funny. However the first episode i saw they were singing about sex. And making lued comments about it. I dont find that clever anyone could do that, and i dont find that funny......... at all. I find the show boring and hard to sit through.

I think both shows are hillarious.

But I think they fall under the category of 'coarse joking' addressed in the new testament.

Ephesians 5:4 (New International Version)

4Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.

With that said I still watch it and laugh about it with my friends and family. Should I stop watching because it's coarse humor? Mabye...probably

That is why I don't watch any of those shows. But that cuts out a lot of movies, music, and other TV shows too. Oh well, at least I've got Jesus! :D

I agree with oopsies, I don't agree with watching either one of the shows. I don't know how any Christian can sit and watch a show that makes fun of Jesus Christ, the man we the say to love and live for. But then again, that's just me.

That's fair enough I suppose, but there are few, if any episodes which actually set out to make fun of Christ as far as I'm aware. Episodes which do contain potential 'attacks' on Christianity are satirical, or sometimes just genuinely funny.

Well, everyone's at a different stage in their relationship with God. If you asked me this question a few weeks ago, I would've said the exact opposite and recommended him to watch it as long as they don't apply it in their lives!

But then, I watched Nate Pfeil's The Fire and The Amputee... that pretty much nailed it for me...

I used to watch those shows. but now when I see something from them it is not even funny all I see are horrible racist remarks "jokes" about jews and the holocaust(which if you have been reborn and had a heart of flesh put in you) shouldnt be funny. All I see are jokles about MY LOrd and Savior who had his hands and feet nails pierced, he was whipped until his organs could fall out(do research on the roiman whips those things could do that) who was beaten spit upon and tortured, then drank the cup of God's wrath reserved for me....Yeah i dont know why "christians" watch that. I guess you guys are also O.K. with the taking of the Lord's name in vain in these "comedy" shows.

Yeah, those shows are funny, but it's totally innopropriate, so I don't watch them at all. That kind of humor does not appeal to me.

Why not? Is humour not subjective? And where, in your opinion, does that place me (ie. a Christian who finds a lot of humour in these programmes)? And by the way, the programmes are not racist in the least, as far as I know.

As far as I'm aware, jokes of that nature are relatively few and far between...if at all.

Yeah i dont know why "christians" watch that. I guess you guys are also O.K. with the taking of the Lord's name in vain in these "comedy" shows.
Trust me, the real world is much worse. Just because a programme contains some objectionable material does not negate the genuine humour also found in it.

Coarse joking. As Christians, we're supposed to say kind and uplifting words to one another to help each of us to grow closer to Jesus. Of course, I'm finding that it rarely happens so one can really only do their own part.

There might be humor, but the "objectionable material" should be reason enough for any Christian to stop watching.

By that reasoning we should never watch telly, never listen to the wireless and never read any books. We should probably lock ourselves in a church and never expose ourselves to the outside world either. It's bad out there.

are you saying this makes it right? - just wonderin.

I like both family guy and south park - i do think they are rather funny but if something does come up on my screen that am not happy about i.e taking the lords name in vain - i flick the channel over for a minute or go to the kitchen for a drink - i love them both though :)
