David’s dance before the Lord is described in 2 Samue16:14. This passage of Scripture may rank as one of the most misunderstood accounts in the Old Testament. Some seem to think that David danced practically in the nude before the Lord. But read the account in 2 Samuel 6 carefully: “And David danced before the Lord with all his might; and David was girded with a linen ephod.” It doesn’t exactly sound like David was naked, does it) An ephod was a close-fitting, armless outer vest commonly extending down to the hips. In Old Testament times it was used almost exclusively as a priestly garment and worn in connection with the worship of God. David was not naked when he danced before the Lord; he was instead dressed for worshipping God.
David’s leaping and dancing before the Lord was expressive of joy and praise to God. David’s dancing (described in 2 Samuel 6:14) was a form of religious rejoicing, an expression of joy on the occasion of the return of the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem.

[h=3]Psalm 150[/h]King James Version (KJV)

150 Praise ye the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power.
2 Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness.
3 Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp.
4 Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs.
5 Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals.
6 Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord.

When I asked how many times scripture mentioned joy in Holman's bible translation, it was 204 times. Often music and dancing was mentioned in connection with joy.

Dirty dancing is a rather new dance, it started after the world accepted sin as part of accepted life. It would be a shame if we let dance expressing lust ruin the joy of dancing for the joy of it.

Dancing is not sinful, but all what we do must be done as for the Lord :) Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters. Also, if your dancing offends other people then you better be careful. Things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not. Let no man seek his own, but every man another's wealth. 1 corinthians 10-23-25. So if children of God dance to give glory to the Lord there's not sin in that. But if children of God dance and the movements may be inaproppiate then... they should stop. We are called to be light with all what we do. Our reputation in front of non believers is important too.

Anyone who finds dancing an inherently lustful activity either is suffering from some serious problems with lust, or is just on a witch hunt with no true biblical perspective. Dancing Can be used in a sinful manner, but to confuse that something Can be done wrong with it IS wrong is just typical religious thinking. David danced before God as an act of worship. Those people need to read their bibles.

The enemy is always trying to steal what God made for good and turn it into evil, there is nothing wrong with dancing and worshipping the Lord. Dancing is fun and good for the body with regards to physical exercise. Unfortunately there are some dancers that have taken it to the sexual nature but that's not what I am talking about. The enemy tries to confuse us and steal God's goodness the things he has given us. Dance be merry and have fun :)

David was naked before the Lord. But what everyone sees, is David's nakedness. They look at his flesh. God, looked at his sin. Nakedness in the bible translates to sin. The bible was written that way, because you can't keep track of what happens in the spirit, because no one can see it. In the flesh however, you can. Don't read the bible with a carnal mind, and let your own understandings get in the way of what God is trying to say. No matter how much you try, you can never comprehend God's word with your own fleshly, carnal mind. Just let the Holy Spirit take control, and let your spiritual eyes be open. Stop thinking, and start doing. Stop knowing, and start understanding. Because seeing isn't believing. Believing is seeing.
God bless.

Hi Emarie, In Luke 15, when the prodigal son returned home, the father threw a huge celebration. In verse 25, it says that the older son was in the field and when he came near to the house, he heard music and dancing.

I'm not a professional dancer but when I'm in the presence of God, I can't help but respond in worship to God through dancing. I'm not anywhere close to perfect in dancing but its for Him and He gets it.

I feel Him dancing with me. Its amazing. We must learn to enjoy God. If we don't, we can become religious. When we do enjoy Him personally, we have a relationship with Him. It can attract others to Christ.

Dancing isn't the only way to enjoy God but it is one way. The Bible encourages dance. Dancing can be worship, praise, adoration, celebration of our God. It can bring freedom, strength, joy, miracles. We serve a big God that can work through dance if believers allow Him to work within them.

So go ahead and dance to and for your Heavenly Father.

I hope this helps.
Stay blessed! :)

Your question itself has the answer. If it is indecent moves it is a sin. But if it is for the worship of God it is not a sin. In fact it is a way of worship ( very powerful) as David did . Because when we dance for Lord we do it overcoming our shyness in front of others and it is almost like a testimony that we belong to God .. so dance without any problem for Lord our God :)

Let them praise his name with dancing,
making melody to him with tambourine and lyre!

(Psalm 149:3)

You have turned for me my mourning into dancing;
you have loosed my sackcloth
and clothed me with gladness,
that my glory may sing your praise and not be silent.
O LORD my God, I will give thanks to you forever!

(Psalm 30:11-12)

No Dancing is not a sin, there are many christian songs that features feet are dancing. and dance, dance were ever you may be, i am the lord of the dance said he, you know the tune? But there are certain dances that are somewhat not right, which can provoke lustful thoughts from men and women. its those types of dances you try to keep away from. But answer to your question? no, dancing is not a sin,

David danced from his heart to God and the Psalms speaks of praising God with dance. so I do not think it's sinful. but like anything else, satan has corrupted a God-given gift so the world uses it for evil as well.

Dancing sinful? No, rather like most debates its how it is used. When I'm at church I'm always at the front jumping and dancing, thats praise to God, therefore not a sin.

In the exact opposite corner one could consider the new dance craze. Twerking. Is it a sin? Most likely even if not used intentionally to cause lust it often does.

Use the bible to guide you in what is right and wrong, if you are unsure about a perticular dance as to whether it is sinful just avoid it, better to not accidentally sin.

No way! Dance is a gift from God and he wants us to enjoy it. But, like all gifts, it can be used in a sinful way. Don't suggest things when you dance and it is will be a fun way to stay fit and have fun. :)
