I saw a Bible verse that said something about photography being a sin. Is that true and what does the Bible verse mean by that verse? I like taking photos and wanted to do photography as a hobby but I don't want to do it if it's a sin.

Chapter and verse please...considering photography was invented in the 1800s
I personally think its a cardinal sin to take photos with less than 8 megapixels.

Can you post the verse, please?

I'm assuming it might refer to photography in a vain matter

I don't know if you refer to those verses (Exodus 20:4, Leviticus 26:1, Deuteronomy 4:15-19) which mentioned "images" but it's talking about idols.
So is representing Jesus is a sin ? I wonder...

Otherwise photography is not a sin. It's capturing the beauty of God's creation.
But "lustful" photography is a sin.

I hope not! I work for a small photo business that takes sports team photos and such. I'm working with Photoshop all day! Like SunnySoul said, if its lustful, however, it would be a sin.

Photography that arouses...sexy pictures, sensual pictures, nudes, provocative, pornography...
Pictures that create in you an ungodly desire !

In Exodus 20:4 GOD says "Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth"

In Exodus 20:4 GOD says "Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth"
it's only one part of the commandment...read what is next ! It concerns idols. Which is different than taking pictures !

are you on about this verse in the bible: Exodus 20:4 "You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth." ?

In Exodus 20:4 GOD says "Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth"
What it means, that in those times they had carved golden calves and other animals, and statues and worshiped them as gods. In that verse its telling you not to make an carved images heavenly or on earth. You seen pictures and paintings of Jesus, and mary. that is concidered as making images.

Becuase Jesus is the God of your life. not a image or a painting. But photography is great. whether it be nature, sea, or skies. or objects. How ever not of sexual immorality, pornagraphy, or anything that promote evil. there is nothing wrong with photography in itself. Just be careful what you take pictures of.

I don't know if that helps Danielle1234. basically you not to make images likeness of God, or heavenly. Not that you can take photos of Jesus. But to God its considered as making an image, to worship. When we should be worshiping God in spirit.

In other countries, they make statues of cows, and other animals and worship them as gods. But can a statue heal? can a statue answer prayers? can they hear prayers? Its kind of paganism, were they have things like a doll, or an object and worship them as lucky charms.

God can be jelous. so if he sees his children worshiping gods, he can get jelous. So i hope that helps. so to answer your question if photography is sin? well No its not, But its the content you taking pics of can lead to sin. I.E Pornography, or anything perverted, nude, or sex then yes those content can lead to sin.

Can I ask you a question? I know its off this type of topic but its still about Christianity. Is it wrong that when I read the story of Jesus I get sad when i read what The Jews did to Him? I am very thankful that He died for us, but is okay to be sad about what The Jews did to Him?

if you didnt cry, would that mean you are heartless? What the the people do to Jesus was sad, and brutal, and evil. and its not wrong or bad to cry for what they did. that telling you have heart. but we should celebrate, because he rose from the cross. He is alive. and can be alive in you.
