How do I ask for forgiveness, when I did something I knew was wrong?

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins & to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Tell Him exactly what you did.

Also, make sure you are a Christian -- not because you sinned, but because that statement above applies only to Christians.

All Christians sin.
James tells us that in many things we all stumble.

ask for forgiveness and you will see. God will forgive you, if you mean it from your heart. Dont let teh enemy tell you different, cos teh enemy will make you feel bad to ask and try to stop you, no matter what, just speak to God, believe, me, God already knows our sins, Just ask for his forgiveness, i know for a fact you will different. and better in yourself,

Acts 8:22
"Repent, therefore, of this wickedness of yours, and pray to the Lord that, if possible, the intent of your heart may be forgiven you. "

1 John 1:9
"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. "

You repent of it by asking God through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to forgive you of this sin, and turn from it to not do it again. But if you do sin again, you can still ask for forgiveness and our Lord will forgive you.

Be careful though that you do not fall into that sin and let it control you. You can not live in willful sin without repentance and asking forgiveness of it. We do still sin and back slide, but rather you control it and stop it before it controls your life and makes it to where you can not live with out it, is what makes the difference.

As an the Church (The True Orthodox Church) the Faithful confess their sins to God and to a priest (their spiritual father). When I confess to my spiritual father I not only feel forgiven I know I am forgiven. It is also important to confess to God right when you relize you have sinned then you can receive absolution from your spiritual father whenever you want to receive Communion.

But we must remember that our Lord is merciful, so He will forgive us; He wants to hear us say we have sinned.

Atwood, God forgives ALL people who sin, if they confess it and ask for forgiveness!! His forgiveness is NOT limited to only christians. No matter what religion you're from, God will forgive your sins if you repent them and ask forgiveness. He forgives ALL people--he does'nt play favorites between religions.

The problem with this statement is that not all religions believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

Now if some one who is from another religion comes to know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, then yes they will be forgiven of their sins.

But the bible makes it clear that if they do not believe in Jesus Christ, than they will die in their sins do to their non-belief.

If you sin, yes you are still a Christian. Paul, when writing part of the New Testament said 'i do what i do not want to do'. Meaning, even as a Christian, and a writer of most of the NT, he was still sinning, still messing up. While our spirits are reborn, our physical bodies are still stuck in this sinful world, with sinful habits and inclinations. We battle against our flesh. And this is the essence of our faith. Resisting the wrong our flesh desires by empowering our reborn spirit to fight our sinful desires. Sometimes we lose. We just seek forgiveness and move on. God forgives.
But, if you choose to live in a sinful lifestyle, accepting your sin or sins, and not desiring to change, then you might find yourself questioning your salvation. The desire to try to fight against sinning and doing Gods will is part of the evidence of our salvation.

Jesus was talking to a small group of what would be called Christians today. He said that there are those that are not of this fold and that He was going to gather them in also.

You are most certainly correct, my friend.
