I know how important it is to read the Bible often, but is there any advice some of you would give to someone who is having an almost impossible time of actually reading and taking in the word of God? I know I am far from God now, and I want to be content with Him, but how do I stop widening the gap in our relationship?

It is hard to fight temptation on an empty stomach, especially when you can't make yourself eat.

The Bible is the heaviest book you'll ever pick up, although you may even have a pocket sized one. Your sins, your love for this world, and your passions for all things that are not God will weigh it down in your hands and it will fall right onto the floor (or, more accurately, in a shelf).

If you are having trouble understanding the Bible then I suggest a study bible. The Fire Bible is a really good one that I have picked up. You can get it on Christianbook.com. However, as you have said, you know you need to eat. If you starve yourself from God, it is only a matter of time until you fall away from Him.

I suggest you spend some time fasting, praying, and getting into the Word. If you are not active in a church, I suggest becoming so. The disciples used to meet together daily. We need the accountability and the encouragement of the local church.

God bless you on your journey.
