Dante's Inferno is based on the first part of Dante's Divine Comedy. The player controls Dante, a veteran of the Third Crusade, who chases his beloved Beatrice and attempts to free her soul from Lucifer, who needs to wed a heaven-bound soul to break free of Hell and make another attempt to take over the Throne of God. As his pursuit takes him through the monstrous entities within the nine Circles of Hell to save Beatrice, Dante must face his own sins, his family's past and war crimes.

Man. I need to read Dante's Divine Comedy. I always hear about the book, but I've never actually sat down to read it.
Doesn't sound like a game I'd want to play, but since it's based off a book my only concern is that it might ruin the book. I know games are made based off movies quite often, but I've never heard of a game being made based off a book.

Yes, I've been watching a few videos and reading reviews of it and that is one of the criticisms. But I've never played God of War so that doesn't bother me. However, I have played Devil May Cry which has similar elements and I enjoyed that.
As for whether Dantes Inferno offends me, no not as far as I can tell from the initial premise of the game. If anything, EA should have probably been bolder about using overtly Christian themes instead of, for example, relegating the power of the cross to 'Holy magic' as I heard the developers call it. Sacred items are hardly 'magic' and I fear they were probably just dumbing it down for the secular masses. However, that's a minor quibble, and so far it looks like an engaging, exciting, adult game with a good story involving themes of good, evil, sin and redemption, as well as lots of demon slaying.
