In reading through some of Jehovah Witness's pamphlets and literature, I found that they actually do not believe in the bodily resurrection of Christ.

When I questioned some of the JW's that came to my door about this, some denied this was a tenet of their faith, while others agreed that it was.

Their own literature however confirmed this belief.

Without the resurrection, where is our faith?

Paul actually said that first in I Corinthians 15:14 - "And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith."

They also do not belief in praying for the sick, i.e., that God no longer heals.

Plus for many, many years the Jehovah Witness leaders would make predictions that the world would end at a specific time and date, which of course did not happen.

After much study of their materials, beliefs and literature, plus actually talking at length with many of them, I found too many inconsistencies with their beliefs and what the Bible actually says.

Jehovah's Witnesses is very far removed from Biblical Christianity. Engage them graciously and kindly, but not as brothers.

The JW's teach that Jesus was an angel (Michael the archangel) who became a man (Watchtower, 5/15/63, p 307). He was just a man, however -- not God in the flesh (Reasoning from the Scriptures, 1985, p 306). In their bible (The New World Translation) they changed the Word "was God" in John 1:1 to the Word was "a god."

The JW's teach that Jesus was only 'spiritually' raised, not physically (Awake, 7/22/73, p 4; Let God be True, p 276).

The JW's teach that the doctrine of eternal torment (hell) is not valid. (Let God be True, p.90-90, and p. 94-95) The soul becomes extinct (nonexistent) after death (Let God be True, p. 74, 75 and p. 99).

The JW's teach that salvation is by works (Studies in the Scriptures, Vol. 1, pp. 150, 152), through membership in the organization (Watchtower, 2/15/79, p 30).

The JW's teach that the doctrine of the "trinity" is an invention of man. (Let God be True, p 100, 101).

The JW's teach that the Holy Spirit is an inanimate force or power. (Watchtower, 6/1/52, p 24; Reasoning from the Scriptures, 1985, pp 406, 407).

+1. In a world where we can peaceably disagree, we shouldn't be disagreeable. I've engaged with a couple of young Mormon lads; very pleasant to speak with, and they certainly seemed to have a heart for their beliefs. If your faith is strong enough, it's worthwhile exploring others' worldviews. If your faith is not so strong, you may find yourself very impressionable.

Throw caution to the wind.

I had a friend years ago who practiced JW. I would be careful in joining this group as they use a modified bible that does not place an equal value of Jesus in the Trinity, but refers to Him as being a 'god' instead of God. For Christmas I gave her a New King James bible for which she thanked me profusely.

There are so many denominations reflecting many various beliefs. It would be wonderful if we were of one accord and there was unity in our ranks. I am a lapsed Catholic and I am now attending the Seventh Day Adventist church so that my future wife and I will be united in how we practice our faith.

This is a strong bible believing church that preaches salvation that can only come from the shed blood of Jesus. They practice keeping the Sabbath holy and perhaps that is a good thing because that this is the only commandment in the bible that reminds you that you must follow this. They also stress the importance of tithing and that is a good thing as well as it lessens your reliance on yourself and teaches you to rely on the Lord for all things. This faith stresses also that our bodies are a temple of the Lord and you must be careful what you put into them so as to stay as healthy as possible. I am still pondering and learning these new concepts but my sense is that these practices provide a strong biblical foundation in which to grow and prosper in our humble service to the Lord.

I am familiar with the Baptist church and I would not forsake this to explore the Jehovah Witnesses. I appreciate your desire for wanting more of the meat of the Word of God and your desire to grow in your faith.

Both JW and Mormon are considered cults and not part of true biblical Christianity. There are other groups as well, but those are the two biggest. Some people also do not accept Catholocism as part of Christian teaching.

It's certainly a good thing that you desire to grow stronger in your faith.

Unfortunately, the Jehovah's Witnesses don't "submerge" themselves in the Bible.

They submerge themselves in Watchtower and Awake publications. Without the teachings and guidance of the Watchtower, in their view, you will become lost.

Be aware that they teach that Jesus Christ is not God, but an inferior god. The Holy Spirit is not God, but an active force.

They also teach that you can't be born-again because all the born-agains(144,000) have already been determined.

The Baptist church you go to probably considers other denominations to be Christians, even though there isn't complete agreement on all doctrine. Jehovah's Witnesses, on the other hand, reject all denominations as being Christian. They will claim they are the only Christians(and they've only been around since the 1870's).

You're going to be told your Bible in not an accurate translation of the Hebrew & Greek and they're going to want you to switch to the New World Translation.

You state that you've been researching the Jehovah's Witnesses. Have you read any of the above in that research?

Considered as such by you too? What are your thoughts on that?
Well, for one, they don't agree with the Bible on the main tenants of the Christian faith.

They (JW and Mormons) would probably disagree. :p At least, in part. So what about them is cult-like?

What is cult-like about JW?
1. JW are not allowed to read something else than their own propaganda material.
2. They are being (affectively and emotionally) isolated by their cult from their families and society because once you become a JW you can no longer say to your mother "happy birthday, mom!", get her a present and rejoice with the rest of the family (the same goes for all holidays that usually brings families together).
3. At their meetings, they are not being thought about Jesus Christ, but about how to knock on other people's doors and convert them to their cult. I know this because I once went to a JW meeting.
4. They have a negative position about almost everything.

The Jehovah's Witnesses teach:
- Their church organization is the prophet of God. 1
- Jesus returned invisibly in 1914. 2
- Blood transfusions are sinful. 3
- The Holy Spirit is God's impersonal active force. 4
- Only their church members will be saved. 5
- Jesus was an angel who became a man. 6
- Jesus did not rise from the dead physically. 7
- There is no Trinity. 8

Its good to find out directly from them what they believe, hence why I have sat down with them and Mormons in my home. Not anymore though, JWs don't believe Jesus was God and they have their own bible translation to fit their doctrine - have nothing to do with them and Mormons are just whacked out. I just tell them in not interested now.
