Hey guys, I'm just curious, what kind of video games do you like? The past couple years, my views have really changed.

I used to be quite into shooter games, such as Halo, Call of Duty, Battlefield, etc. However, I really got into racing games a few years back, and I feel it really has shifted my focus. I felt less interest in shooter games as I got more into racing. To be honest, I felt more of a thrill racing against someone than playing a shooter game with them.

Now, I don't condemn anybody who plays violent video games, like a lot of the media is saying. I feel that you can have fun in the games, and have a good time with friends. I feel that when you make video games an idol (which is sadly all too common), you will be prone to going astray.

What are your thoughts on gaming? What do you like to play, if you like to at all?

Are you serious? THIs is a CHRISTian chat..uh, CHRIST centered..giving HIM the focus! Apparently, you hit the wrong key and thought this was a video/game chatroom where mindless chatter is done about the latest craze for electronic games. So sorry...but if you seriously want to discuse your topic, run to the "I DON"T HAVE A LIFE" chatroom and join in the party.

Well, new guy with an attitude and little knowledge, there have been a number of threads on this subject in the past and few have any problem with it. So before shooting your mouth off about things you don't know perhaps you should learn a bit first. It's not an uncommon topic.
And i suppose you have such a full life, that's why you're here and not off line doing other things, right? Perhaps you don't exactly have a life yourself then. Quite honestly you sound like a judgmental condescending jerk while ranting about being a Christian? What makes you so holier than thou when your response is full of insults, scorn and ignorance?

I have to say that video games where my all-time favorite thing to do at all for 33 years of my life. I love them to the point I made them a false idol. That was just about all I would do with any spare time I had. I was a father with a job, and I would never put off my responsibilities to game, but any chance I had I took. Everyone that has ever known me can tell you I have always loved these games since I first grabbed an Atari stick and same that I could control what was on screen with it. I mean I’ve owned everything up to the 360, PS3, DS, PSP, and the Wii, put it this way, the last game I beat was GTA5. Those were what I owned at the point of my rebirth. The night after my regeneration I picked up the controller for the last time up to now. I played about 10 minutes before I realized I had better ways to spend my time. That was all it was, I didn’t wake up thinking “games are the devil”, or anything like that, God just re-wrote my priority list and heart. I mean my wife is still amazed by His power in this area, and the exact same thing happened with porn. I pulled up some porn that same day and all I could think about was “what lead this girl to having to do this for money?”, What would she tell her children if they ever came across mom’s video’s?”, “What do her parents think?”, and turned it off for the last time (up to today).

The really strange thing was I NEVER looked at either of these things as “bad” at all, so I never gave any thought to giving them up, and to be super clear “I” didn’t give anything up, Gods Spirit coming into me changed these things not me at all. My thought on these things before, was neither one hurt anyone, so why would I ever want to give up things I enjoyed? I am also not suggesting that this should be how everyone feels, or even how they will ever feel. This is just simply how God worked in my life concerning these issues, so I understand from both sides. The main thing is to follow what the Spirit leads you to do. That is a personal walk and I wish you the best on that journey brother. That’s for bring it up to talk about though.

Games are awesome, but the main problem nowadays is that companies are going pay-to-win or online-only. I don't play nearly as much as I used to. But yeah I'm mostly into the racing genre too... hoping for a Gran Turismo 7 reveal at E3.

And that is how we win the young people over by showing them love LOL.

Pipe down bru the youngsters are chilling on a game thread. If you are bothered by it hit the ignore button... (says Gandalf in his awkward voice :) )

Just wait till pwrnJC hits the last-person-to-post threads...

I'm about like Jimbone was - played video games all my free time. When I went to church I grudged the time spent, but I might as well have stayed home because I was thinking about how I would beat the next level. I finally had to sell my game console.

Thing is, when I was arguing with God over it my biggest hangup was "What will I do with all that free time?" God said, "Plenty!" And for sure, boredom isn't a big factor in my life these days.

I'm not saying "Video games are eeeeeeevil!" My pastor has a nintendo (whatever they're up to these days... wi u?) But for me personally video games took the place of almost everything important in my life. Kind of like some people spend all their time on facebook, or watching tv shows, or etc. etc. etc.

But when I was playing, my favorites were RPGs. Nooooo, not rocket propelled grenades. :p And I didn't care much for online RPGs because there didn't seem to be much point in them other than merging social life with gaming. I liked the stand-alone RPGs with a good storyline. I also liked that if an enemy was too hard I could always find something to make me stronger and come back later. Stacking the deck in my favor is always a good thing. :D To give you an example of how much I was into games, though I have a terrible memory for people's names I can still remember every level of Final Fantasy 7.

I also liked flight sims. I never went for the easy control option though, where you can turn left or right automatically and the computer keeps your flight level. Give me full control where I can bank and fly upside down - I know which way is up. And you can't do a barrel roll with easy controls.

I have to mention Mega Man. Best. Games. EVER! I started back in the days when the Game Boy was black and white, and I played right on up through the Mega Man X series and the RPG. I got off work one night and stayed up until 7am the next day playing the first Mega Man X game. The only one I didn't play was the card game, where you have to keep cards to fight enemies.

I was very much into platformers and RPGs growing up.

I've since grown up. :p

But seriously, the genres I enjoyed most aren't produced anywhere near as much these days, and I have so little time that I very seldom game. The only times I indulge tend to be when I am with company and they want to play something.

Stop that. You're an adult, so act like it. He didn't mean any harm, you have been gentler than that. And I hope you don't start saying stuff how were supposed to be hardened Christians, because were supposed to be gentle at times too.

I like games that give me a choice on how I want to approach a matter, I mean I do like shooters like CoD and Battlefield, I like BF more because it's more than just about mowing down scores of terrorists (which can be fun on a blue moon) but I like games like Splinter Cell where I have the option of not engaging the enemy which makes it more fun and a different challenge and very tense at times. I also like games like Far Cry where you can approach objectives how you choose. At the moment i'm slowly chewing through Splinter Cell Blacklist, a very nice addition to the franchise I must say even without Ironside :) I look forward to the next iteration if they can pull off what they did with Blacklist but being a Ubisoft game, they're usually hit n miss lol

Yeah I've read some of the forums on there but never been a regular. I just remember people arguing over whether enough players like ovals to justify putting them in GT6 lol.

A number of years ago I was finishing a second master's degree and used to go down to an Internet café to research assignments as the place I lived in was constantly having phone outages at that time do to the terrible subscriber wiring.

One day this young man in his late twenties whom was always there whenever I visited (it was like he lived there or something) was always playing online games like World of Warcraft. He wore a headset and would communicate with the people he played the games online with (they were probably all over the world).

One day he popped his head over and asked me excitedly what game I was playing. I told him that I was playing MBA.

He asked me what that was exactly so I explained that it was when a person chose not to waste their time playing games all day long but instead finished a relevant college degree and that the one I was presently working on happened to be an MBA program.

He became quite offended and though he wasn't amused I was... lol.
