Hi! My name is Priscilla and I'm interested in learning asl and become an interpreter at my church or any other deaf ministry. I was wondering if I could get any tips and help on how to become an interpreter and be involved in deaf ministry. I'm hearing by the way.
Also,I'd love to make some new friends with those who are deaf so maybe we could Skype each other so I'd be able to interact and learn as I go. Hope to get some responses. God bless you guys! Thanks in advance!

I have a friend pursuing this as a career. I'll ask her for some advice. :)

I'd practice with you, but my ASL is rusty.

I actually am double majoring in Psychology with ASL. I have known sign language my whole life because it was my first language until the age of 8 (even though I am not deaf).

I work closely with the deaf ministry at my megachurch because they needed help and I did a presentation in front of the lead pastor in order to educate them on what they need to do to reach the deaf community. Where I live has the highest capita of deaf people in the United States, so we see many deaf people coming in and out.

I'd love to teach you or help you in any way I can! Shoot me a PM with some of your questions! :)

Prisca, I don't have any advice for you, but I wanted to let you know how GREAT I think this post is!! We see so much pain, anger and fear in here, people needing God's help right now; it's so refreshing to me to see someone asking for help in how to better serve God! (and no I am not condemning anyone in pain, or at least that isn't my intent, and I apologize if it comes across that way)
I said a prayer for you for guidance, protection and peace in this endeavor of yours, and I will continue to keep this in prayer as well.
Peace!!
