So, I just turned thirty (I hope that still labels me a "Young Adult"), a Christian for about three years now, and I am seriously considering going to Bible college this fall (despite my anxiety of having zero funds to do so). I was thinking it would be cool to start up a study group of some sort either here on CC or on Skype or wherever in preparation for this personal life move. I used to be really great at just grabbing the Bible on my own time and chewing through it, but now that I've been through the Word three times, I thought having the ability to share it with others would be beneficial for all involved.

Just brainstorming I was thinking of the following ways to go about this (depending on time commitments):

- a straight blast through the whole Bible in a year with some general discussion and clarification where needed.
- an in-depth look at the Gospels and Acts
- an in-depth look at the epistles/letters of the New Testament
- taking turns bringing up a subject of interest or challenge and seeking Biblical answers

Really I am up to anything and am willing to facilitate to the best of my ability. At first I thought a one on one thing would be cool, but actually the more the merrier works too :D

Any interest and thoughts on what kind of study you would like to participate in would be greatly welcome.

Blessings! :D

Well, it's not a kindly story I'm afraid. Basically I was a harsh atheist and lived that way for some years until my choices led me to serve a large portion of time in jail. I recognized that my sentence should have been much much greater and so I tasted the reality of "someone's" grace for the first time.

I shied away from Christianity for about three years into my sentence, studying psychology, philosophy, and even Buddhist theology in that time. Eventually I was challenged once more by grace when I agreed (very reluctantly) to go to a Bible study group in the prison. I found that the volunteers were nothing like the "Christians" of my previous experience, and they not only came to quite a dangerous place to minister to some of the worst people, but they did it completely for free, even spent money to be with us!

I couldn't understand the motive and felt even appalled that these folks were wasting their lives for the worst of men. So I decided to study diligently to "disprove" Christianity as objectively as I could (even though my biases popped up often). But as I genuinely started to knock and seek answers, I was finding that logic and reason and evidence was quickly pointing toward the existence of God and His work through the person of Jesus Christ.

Long story short, after about a years study, in the fall of 2012, I bent my knee weeping and praying for God to forgive my sins, knowing beyond a shadow of a doubt that I was damned.

I guess the specific answers to your questions would be:

God was always there, I had to come to the point in my life where I was willing to open my eyes to see Him. This I am sure is unique to every person as we all have our own testimony's. The common thing that is there though is a personal desire for the knowledge and Truth of God. Without that softening of heart (which God may or may not help with), a person will more than likely reject God out of hand.

I pray your husband may come to a place where the Spirit prompts him to ask the legitimate questions he may have, and seek the truthful answers that are more than available to him. If you'd like some resources that helped me as a skeptic (which may or may not appeal to your husband), just let me know :).

I can recommend some study books but I probably can't post the names and URLs here because that would be considered advertising but you could get it from me in PM. I even have a top ten or top twenty list of books.

- an in-depth look at the epistles/letters of the New Testament

I like this idea, but all of them sound good. I am a seminary student going through the General Epistles (which includes 1, 2 and 3 John, 1 and 2 Peter, and Jude. Also I am new to the forum, so I would be interested finding out more about what you all are interested in discussing.

God Bless!

I am doing online Bible studies already, but I'd like to get together with other people to do other studies. I love to study my Bible, but it's hard to find a good study group where I am located IRL.

It is not finished yet, but you might try www.e-biblestudies.org Meant to give newbies some information about the bible without requiring full and in-depth studies. Kind of like elementary school studies to get them ready for high school studies.
