How do you know if you have been called?

Hello everybody. I have a question. How do you know if you have been called to preach? I have a passion for the Lord. I am not a expert on his word, but I am trying to learn a lot of it. I want to be sure that it is him calling and not my own ego trying to show through. The funny part is I have always hated being up in front of people, but I am just not sure what to make of any of this. I know Moses had a stutter, and the lord still used him. (Not comparing myself to Moses at all!!) Any advice is appreciated. Thanks everyone. Have a blessed evening.

Hi templar :) from the sound of it you are young in heart as a Christian I don't know how long you have been saved but I know after three months of being saved I had such a zeal and passion to be a paladin for God and I wanted to go out and to preach the word of God I wanted to save the lost I wanted to be used greatly for his kingdom.

But in my zeal and passion I didn't know at the time how wet behind the ears I was and luckily God used many here to help still the waters of my heart. It may in fact be your calling to preach but before that Yoiu must grow much more in Christ or else even though your intentions are pure your ministry will fail

Thank you. I will keep praying about it before I do anything rash. I am trying to build up the courage to talk to my pastor about it. I was saved when I was around 10, so I have been a christian a long time. Its just here recently a new fire has kind of started in my heart. I have really started to sort of crave his word. I have been praying a lot more too. Not just about big stuff, but about everything. Thank you for replying and for your wisdom.

God has a way of making it obvious.

I believe everyone should study and know enough about the Bible to teach if needed. Not just preachers. It's part of our spiritual armor that too many people let get dull and rusty.

God wants us to mature in Christ, learn your spiritual gifts and be ready when He makes your calling evident. It might be in a ministry that you don't anticipate but is for His glory.

There is more to the Body of Christ than preachers.

Many people that believe they feel called always frame it in a 'preaching in front of people' view. Have you considered that it may be a calling in another area?

I pray a lot for Him to reveal to me my spiritual gifts, but I do not seem to get a response. I want so badly to do something. I read daily about people making a difference and I just seem to be sitting here trying to figure out my own path.

What do you enjoy doing? What kind of things have people said you are good at?

Have you taken a spiritual gifts inventory quiz?...let,me,see,if,i can find one

Some have to me mine is Mercy and others have said serving, but to me that is a very broad spectrum.

Preach to who ? as the Ariel82 said what are your strengths and weakness's . I was called to coach football/track (preaching to little kids ) --- God mad this real obvious time and time again until i finally GOT IT . Just because your are in front of people preaching doesn't necessarily mean a church . Good luck and GOD BLESS

I have only been lead to preach in front of people once in my time in faith the rest God tends to use me online, preaching is not always what people think a lot of times we are preaching without knowing it simply by speaking our hearts to people. It takes some people longer to know who they are in him some grow in him very fast fast others not so fast.

My heart is filled with such an amazing joy when I help others and I live to serve encourage uplift and help others I desire very strongly to make that spark in their hearts to ignite the flame I am a builder an uplifter an encourager and this is just who I am in both him and in the real world but I didn't know who I was in him until about a year ago.
When your heart is deeply founded in him and when you and him have a very deep and intimate bond and love together your heart instinctively acts on what your called to be and do.

How did he reveal it to you azlightsout? I have been praying for a while to find my spiritual gifts and for Him to send in the direction I need to go.

not really both mercy and serving are direct links to the gift of love I have both these gifts as well:)

Ask for a dream/sign, I wouldn't want to jump into something like that, although we all as believers are called to witness to others about Christ. God usually uses people who aren't big on themselves such as Jonah, Moses, Gideon...guys most average people would pass up b/c of their "problems" whether unwillingness, stuttering, or in gideons case plain fear.....

It may be God calling you to preach, then again you may be just feeling this way b/c some pastor spoke a prophecy or word over your life...(believe me I've been there) where they tell you to fast for three days and the 4th day God will reveal something to you and it didn't happen (there are some charlatans out there)....some pastors God may use to speak to you but just be careful I found most have hidden agendas or are speaking from the flesh....

My advice is to seek God, maybe do a fast, where you not only fast food, but TV/internet/gaming/shut out all worldly input and lock yourself in a room for a day spending time with God...who knows maybe He will speak/confirm it directly to you...but above all don't be swayed by any man's word....test the words....like my fav chapter in the Bible 1 John 4

Test the spirit/words whether they be of God (the Holy Spirit) or a spirit of falsehood (demons)......after all demons can give prophecies as well b/c they are in the same spiritual plane where time is no issue...but they usually have limited foresight compared to God who knows the end from the beginning.......use discernment brother!

No we are given many different gifts and some can walk in the realm of all of them though that is far more rare. But the nine gifts of the spirit are all linked to each other in a certain way like a web or a connection of wires the spirit uses those of a willing heart. For instance one can not have the gift of healing but God may one day lead them to place their hands on a person and their willingness to obey made the person well again but they never healed again in their lives. Some are far stronger in certain gifts and very weak in others but God will use us however he can he only requires a willing heart to serve and be used by him at all times.

I am timid and shy by nature but the day I spoke to a group of people God did something to these people simply because I told him I am willing for you to use me whenever and however you wish. That morning in a church I have never been to I was lead to get in front and speak to them I was out of character I was not nervous or afraid and I didn't even know what I was going to say but I knew I just had to get up there and speak.

Because of this hearts were filled with a fire and a joy that was not there before healing of the deepest sadness and bleeding inner wounds were mended by his words that spoke through me not because preaching was my initial gift but simply because I was willing

Everyone has different gifts..I think mine is faith and knowledge (which is different from wisdom, lol).

I often wish I had more discernment but God has blessed me with people who do and they keep the wolves away.

Currently God has lead me to teaching...used to teach high school science, but tomorrow I start teaching Sunday school to 1st graders and next Sunday we start up a women's Christ care group, that I supposedly leading...

But I don't really like a leader and hate to get up in front of crowds too. So I am going to let God lead and be a facillator.

I guess I mean to say I find joy in little kids and helping people learn more of the Bible.

Some people love music and that is their ministry.

Others have a heart for the elderly or the homeless.

We have a ministry for hungry kids..they get backpacks filled with food for the weekend.

Just look around and give your time to a ministry that calls at your heart.

If you like kids, schools always need tutors and mentors.

Nursing homes could do with more visitors.

Food banks could use an extra pair of hands....


Or maybe God is calling you to pray and study the Bible?

Learn about Biblical history and various doctrines?

There is so much that can glorify God.

maybe they are, for me those tests are more for fun than to find the truth of my gifts
