So these past couple of months, usually as I'm drifting off into sleep I'll sometimes hear voices. I've been shrugging it off for a bit but last night was scary. I would hear a male voice yelling in my ear so loud i could feel my eardrums ringing. And everytime it would talk i couldnt move my body. There were even moments where I'd have a thought and it would respond to it. For example at one point when i managed to fall asleep, I woke up to my stepdad turning on the light and I thought to myself, "wow the light is annoying." And then just moments later the voice would yell, "Then why dont you turn it off?! Yeah i can hear your thoughts!" This voice was sooo angry and loud to the point i thought it was coming from a tv but it wasnt. After a while I would hear a woman talking but i could not make out what the female voice was saying. Is this normal? Am i developing a mental illness? Or this a spiritual attack?

Mental illness is a possibility, but no one here can state it for a fact. And various mental illnesses can cause such symptoms.
There are some on here that don't believe in mental illness. I'd advise not heeding them as they have zero thought in their responses.
The safest bet is to be diagnosed by a professional, not by strangers online. And also praying about it and asking people you trust to pray as well. Or at least tell them it's an unspoken request.
This way God is involved whether it's spiritual or mental.
But don't stress about the possibility of mental illness. There are varying degrees. And in some cases you can have some symptoms of a mental illness without act having the mental illness.
So go be evaluated. Pray and ask for prayer. Don't self diagnose, or let strangers online convince you that they have answers and decide things for you.
Hope that helps some.

it sounds very similar to a thing called sleep paralysis, there are lots of people who have gone through it and still do in fact though it's scientifically called a medical issue it resembles very much a demonic attack in fact in a documentary of it a lady was going through it and couldn't move the voices yelling in her ear in such anger and she could barely talk it was as if whatever she was being attacked by didn't want her to speak she wasn't a Christian but she managed to say in the name of Jesus Christ I command you to leave she only barely was able to say it but once she did suddenly she could move again and they were gone.

even I have gone through this myself, there are times when I am at the point when I am so deep into almost being asleep like I am at the last step before completely passing out yet still not asleep that I hear voices and I can't tell what they are saying but they are clearly voices speaking and occasionally I can see dark figures they only have the shape of a person but are like black shadows.

I may have a form of sleep paralysis but it's not as bad as what others goes through though one night after experiencing all this I fell asleep and has a dream where 12 of these dark figures were all sitting around a table drinking wine I have no idea why or even who they were but I knew they were bad news.

I don't think what you have is a mental illness it may be sleep paralysis which also may in fact be demonic attacks but I don't have enough insight into that subject to know for sure but I do know the name Jesus Christ has power because I have seen it in action when I was attacked by a demon

Oh... ive had this before, you have sleep paralysis, and yes it is demonic, and the more you feed into fear the worse the attacks get. Did you know that they are terrified of you when you know Christ is in you? you can rebuke them and send them away in Jesus's name. You have authority over them, tell them to leave, and they must submit... sometimes it might take a while but they all must submit, even the highest ranking demons have to obey, and you have authority over them all. Don't fear them either because their entire focus, is to make you afraid, so that you give up your authority and power over them.

Sleep paralysis isn't demon possession. It's more common in young people and
I think it's more common in woman (at certain times of the month especially).

I often use to have it along with sleep walking.
Both can be caused by hormones, by stress, by being ill etc

I would add that my elderly aunt has COPD and when her oxygen levels get too low,
or when she has water infections or is on antibiotics. She tends to get a bit confused
upon waking up and hears voices, or she mistakes the TV for someone in the house etc.

Not everything is demon possession, in fact most things in life aren't.:)

If you only hear voices while drifting off to sleep or waking up it's also highly unlikely
to be mental illness. If you met someone who was mentally ill they don't get better during
daylight hours.

Other possibilities can be night time epilepsy I know someone with this; and various other
illness, but there again it might just be your hormones. If you are worried about it go see
a medical doctor but I doubt you need a shrink.:) Hi by the way.

Have a look at this.

some would say it's demonic attacks some would say it isn't but just from what I have experienced I could easily see some of them being demonic attacks. Of course not every case is the same sleep deprivation can cause this as well as dehydration or eating something that doesn't bode well with your body and sometimes sleep paralysis is nothing more than a medical condition but from what I have experienced and the testimonies I have seen and heard several of them can easily be demonic attacks.

I find it interesting that a lot times these things go away with only one name. I recall being in bed once and was hearing these voices I felt like I was tied up in invisible chain and being overwhelmed by a terrible sense of dread and fear like I would never know joy again and I remember in my mind I was trying to call out to God but something was blocking my train of thought my mind was fuzzy as if making it hard to even talk to God in my mind but eventually I was able to call out to Jesus and suddenly it was like a tight grip was gone I no longer felt tied up in chains and the fear was gone like it was never there

..My take is spiritual attack as far as demonisation in fear and some other areas of your life and subconcience, which ends up giving power to the entity to do that stuff (spirit, mind and body work together). I used to hear voices so much I couldnt sleep and sometimes would be paralyzed but after deliverance its gone.
(I generally dont believe in mental illness..just sayin)
You should try to figure out what the root issue is so you can heal and get delivered.

To bring two ideas together, let me start by saying that mental illness IS a demonic attack. ALL illness is, God intended us to be healthy and illness came upon us as part of man's fall. satan's had millennia to sow that into our very DNA. So yeah, they've wired your brain all crazy and now they are using that as an additional channel to attack you thru.

So you need to attack back on both fronts.

Get to a doctor, get diagnosed, and see what physical treatments are available to counter that which has been sown into your flesh. Deprive these dark spirits of that handhold on you.

At the same time, get yourself educated on spiritual attacks and what you can do to put a stop to them. Demi and Blain would be some excellent people to talk to. I've been thru what they (and you) have, but their experience is more recent so you'll get fresher intel from them. Not that I'm not open to share with you, by all means I am.

I will give you one key that has worked very well for me. 1 Corinthians 12:3 Therefore I want you to know that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus be cursed," and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit. Whenever these things get in my ears I put that on my lips, repeating it over and over until they get tired of hearing it and leave. Which usually isn't too long because they just HATE hearing it. It burns them like acid.

I'll be praying for you. God says that when two or more are gathered - well, consider me gathered with you in your prayers.

just stay away from psychiotic drugs for your life sake... treating symtoms is never good but they only make things worse and open more doors for attack.
I used to have horrid issues sleeping so the doc gave me some meds and I only took it like 2 times a month if even that. tho its something u should take daily.. I didnt take it a long time and when I took it the last time it did the opposite of usually.. I couldnt sleep, I got depressed and annoyed etc
and it got veery bad and at night while i was trying to sleep and couldnt I took all my faith and said '' Depression I break your right through the sleeping meds and I tell you, Get out in the name of Jesus with all your kingdom you brought with you!"
Then a huge dark cloud lifted off of me and all suicidal and depressing thoughts were gone and I could sleep like a rock..

Stay away from that stuff

I used to live in fear all the time... i remember waking up to this gargoyle looking thing looking back at me about 10 inches away from my face.. but its true though they all flee at the name of Jesus

As already staded

See a professional (Start with your doctor. It could be symptoms of mental illness.
It cold also be symptoms of something somatic (physical) that is just manifesting in a strange way.
The Dr's can figure that out way better than us random folks online.
If he / she thinks you need other areas of expertise they will send you to someone else)

Read the bible and pray. Know that while there are demons, and they can interfere with us, Christ and the holy spirit are strong than any demon , yet keep in mind, not everything in life is demon - related.

Fear not

Yes some of these verses are in a context spoken to specific people in specific situation, but the Lord we serve is the same God these people served!

Isaiah 41:10
Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

Isiaiah 35:4 Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompence; he will come and save you.

Isiaiah 41:13 For I the Lord thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.

Luke 8:50 But when Jesus heard it, he answered him, saying, Fear not: believe only, and she shall be made whole.

Luke 12:7 But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.

Romans 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

2 Tim 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

1 John 4: 18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

Revelation 1: 17 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last:

Ive downloaded an Amplified Bible that reads to me and I play it at night. When I do this, I go to sleep quickly and am rested when woken.

I know this forum is for the young but felt I needed to say this here.

I've had this problem once. I was reading my book and then i thought "i need to sleep now" but as soon as i thought that a female voice whispered in my ear "you don't have to". I looked around and no one was there so i was froze in my bed with fear. Don't know what it was, but it hasn't happened again

There was a time when I heard voices, nothing like this, but just to confirm what many on here are saying it is a demonic attack and you are not possessed. Fight it in the name of Jesus. You may be delivered instantly or it may take a while but through the name of Jesus you will be victorious!!! Going to a preacher that has authority and experience with this may be a good idea as well, but that's up to you.

Sounds pretty scary. My suggestion for whatever it Is, is to pray on it and have your church pray for you as well. The power of the prayer is stronger than you think.
