how many times have you said something with a clear idea in your heart

and semantics peek their ugly face out from the bushes

i think this comes from being to quick to speak

may be my fault
but maybe 1 outta 5 times i speak im understood as intended

makes me think from now on i should just remain silent till after i pray

bring a note book

make rough drafts and edit to finalize my statement

For some it's how they speak, for others it's often times of who they're speaking to. Are you speaking to the wrong people or do you need to think through more? Often times it's a balance of both.

Semantics gets a bum rap. It's the study of how we use words. Fun stuff. Helpful in communications, but it's not communications.

What I say often doesn't come out from what I mean. I have the problem from two sides -- face-to-face and writing.

In face-to-face, I take a long time to form the words, so usually the opportunity to say what I'm thinking comes and goes in the time it takes to form the words.

In writing, I can't include the body-language that goes with the words. For example:
"Do you want that?" Seems like an innocent question, right? But the emphasis changes by inflection:

Do you want that?

Do you want that?

Do you want that?

Do you want that?

I get many people angry at me because they think I'm inflecting on something I'm not inflecting on.

And that is semantics. Hard to describe it without using that word.

Btw, do you want that? If not, I'll take it. :)
