I think everyone's definition of "Spirit filled" might be a bit different. Do you know a denomination (or several denominations) that might correspond with your definition? Also...Michigan is a big state. But, I have a brother in MI so I'll try to pick his brain about churches :). God bless your church finding, bro!

Try doing a search for "bible church" in your area, as usually these churches are consistently non denominational and focus on studying the scriptures. Just make sure you check their statement of faith on their website first.

You kind of have to just try some churches out to see which you prefer. Maybe one ends up too large and impersonal, another is too small or has too many old people and none your age. Takes a bit of time.

Not sure where in Michigan you are, but came across this church that has several campuses spread out across Michigan, so worth checking out. Looks like they have a lot going on too.

So, I did talk to my brother (sorry it took so long to get back to you). He was distinctly unhelpful. Sorry :(

Every church thinks they're "spirit-led." Even the JWs and Mormons.

But, there are two kinds of churches -- ones that teach the Bible book by book, verse by verse, and ones who talk about concepts.

I can tell you of a few denominations that teach book by book, verse by verse.
Presbyterian Church in America. (PCA)
Orthodox Presbyterian. (OP)
Reformed Presbyterian. (RP)

Sound teaching on sound doctrine. I can tell you the process for becoming a teaching elder, (something like a pastor, but only in charge of teaching. Doesn't usually visit the sick, counsel, and that side of pastoring. That's done by the ruling elders), is difficult because we want them to be God led. So, if they pass, they're either truly a Christian (thus led by the Spirit) or they're a very good liar. Most are the former. (I think about 1 in every 100-200 ends up sneaking through on a lie.) And the latter don't last long.

I'm PCA, but I trust OP and RP just as much as my denom.
