If you don't believe in true love then please don't tell me not to believe in it because I believe it to be real.

You might wanna reconsider that ideal.

    You miss my point.

Ever wondered why? That’s the point

We need do be very careful as to what we consider sin to be. In this case smoking.
Yes it is addressed in scripture what sin is. As addressed in Corinthians, Ephesians and Galatians.

Jesus addressed the sin of unbelief in him.

So to me the point is as I a say WHY?

Even believers can fall foul of the stuff addressed in Corinthians, Ephesians and Galatians.
Why do they. There is an effect, that being the case there must be a cause.

With regards to the non believer I came alongside a fellow director whose marriage was struggling and on the point of divorce.
I plucked up the courage to pray for him.
Part of my prayer was “May he know that you can work in this situation”

When I had finished praying he looked at me with eyes welling up “Bill how can I believe in the God that you talk about when my mother when I was seven was killed by a drunk driver, left my sister and I without a mother and a husband who spent the next 40 years in pain and kept their bedroom the same until the day he died?

Now believers can fall foul of such things that detract from walking with God Like they should do.

Rather than write them off (not saying you are doing this) but we need to ask and pray WHY, is there a cause of the effect?

actually sometimes there is no reason to find "a why" sometimes you just have to trust in God and leave matters in his hands, asking a bunch of whys can lead to trouble too,if we ask God why alot instead of trusting in him and praying to him to help us overcomes sins or help others through terrible times then where is our faith?
You can ask why all day,yet not always find an answer to why people decide to be of a reprobate mind(continue or seek harmful habits for no reason but pleasure and trying to forget things) but if we focus on why instead of thinking on "How" one can change for the better(letting God's holy spirit guide instead of one's self)then we delude ourselves possibly, because whys don't always have answers, where as God always has answers.

    Off to sleep everyone.

God bless you all, whether your day is still the day and if like me it’s sleep time.

Remember that God loves us as much as he loves Jesus.
We are his precious children and so are those who don’t yet know him.

Okay, I see where you're coming from but, really, Joe. Harsh words. Have you never met people with weaknesses before?

I, for one, don't smoke. But I have my own weaknesses that I struggle with so I know what it's like. You make it sound like you don't. Well, good on you. Jesus died for the weak.

The one thing I absolutely hate the most is when people preach condemnation about something they have no idea about. I can't, and I admit, help being aggravated at the ignorance and insensitivity. Lord help me.

    Things I'm remorseful about:
    -- No mechanical abilities.
-- Can't travel for over an hour, so I missed family events most of the time.
-- Wasting time on this site.
    -- Smoking.
-- Not learning how to sew.
-- Not being much of a talker on the phone, and the inability to end a phone conversation.
-- Not keeping up with the housework.
-- Not being able to help people like I used to.
-- Eating before going to bed.
    -- Not learning subtle.

Now, please tell me how does remorseful become sin? I easily admit to stupidity, but haven't seen any indication that all stupidity is sin. Being lost in Philly at 2 AM is stupid. It's not sin. Turning down the wrong way on a one-way street is stupid, but it is not sin. Being scammed by a con artist is stupid, but not sin.

AND if the mark of sin is wasting time, then isn't this thread sin? Isn't Pokemon/anime/mangas/reading fiction?

And if smoking is not appreciating Jesus' sacrifice, thus sin, is not sugar the same thing? Salt -- at least the amounts in the American diet -- sin? French fries? Any salty, greasy snacks? Texting and driving?

You can't make a theology out of personal preferences. Well, you can, but then the "theo" in "theology" becomes you, not the real God.

This is the exact thing Jesus had against the Pharisees. The Pharisees took following the Law exactly as the prim-and-proper way of being exalted by God without ever getting that the Law was there to show us who God is, what perfect means, and how short we come to the mark. It's supposed to show us how inept we are so we come humble to the Lord. It's not there so we can point with pride to our accomplishments because, "at least I never robbed a bank."

How shallow the church has become when the top sins include smoking, porn, and junk food.

I can defend that smoking isn't a sin, according to God's law. I can also defend white flour, sugar, and caffeine. And here's a shocker, I don't do any of them. At least, I'm using the Bible. You're making it up as you go along, and then laughing at others.

SEVEN Christian chat sites. That's how many you've said you go to every day. I guess it really is the type of obsession or compulsive habits one has, huh?

How much do you trust him, if you don't dare to ask why? He is God! Do you fear he falls apart if you ask why?

God always has a Why. He's God. He may not tell us why, but he gives Why eventually. He has answered most of my whys. Because of that, I trust him more to answer the rest later. (And, I'm going nuts on the "Why can't you get me to quit smoking, Lord?" question.)

Really doesn't work that way. I wasted 26 years of my Christian walk thinking that.
