At the very least, cigarettes are a sin to your health, that's for sure.

"the wages of sin are death" so yep smoking cigarettes is a sin because it hurts a person even to the point of death just the same as sin.

That didn't make sense, since whether someone smokes or not doesn't change the fact he/she will die. With that logic then eating flour is sin.

i think it can DEFINITELY be counted against someone as sin

if you are convicted by your new God given heart and spirit to quit

and you dont

then your conscious will testify against you on judgement day

i personally have struggled a lot with smoking

ive quit
restarted quit restarted

switched to e cigs

but an addiction for worldly things is not of God
(including e-cigs)
its of your flesh

and giving in
is feeding your fleshly lusts

im not saying all cigarette smokers go to hell

but maybe of you have a problem

and are convicted to stop smoking

maybe start taking steps to get it out of your life

and if youre trying to justify it... maybe take a second look and see if youre decieving yourself

Very well said, yep denial plays a role in any sin,and considering what cigarettes are made for, pleasure,as well as the result of it=death if a person persists to smoke over the years out of habit, sure just like any sin someone can say oh it's no big deal I'll stop sometime, then you look at people that can't breathe, and wonder "why did they think it was worth it"?
besides taking in things into the body that have the potential to kill,I don't see how that is "no big deal" or "working for God" I see such things as "excuses" to keep from working for God,because I've heard plenty of "it's tough to quit" "don't start" "yeah I know" "it relieves my stress",the thing I find wrong with this is "which do you Actually need"?
Do you need God or Cigarettes/poisonous substances,or is God all you need to relieve stress and guide you through life away from "bondage to sin"?
For me I don't need something "harmful" to warp my mind or mess up my body to get through life,I need only what all God gives and has given, the sacrifice of his son Jesus and the promise of everlasting "Life",why I would need "things of death" is beyond me,I believe my God to be the God of the "Living" not of the "dead",I can only keep praying and hoping that others seek "life" over "death" for if we die for pleasure instead of God,then what use is that to God?

Well it should be :p I recently went to Toronto and I was shocked at how many people still smoke in public. I’m allergic so it was torture.

Sm oking is not a sin, but it certainly is not good, and not a good witness to non-believers bec ause it shows a dependency on something material and not on the Spiritual, on Jesus.

I would never condemn a person for smoking, I did for decades..... One day, listening to a preacher on tv, she said if you give up something because of God's love it is like putting it on the altar and it is consumed by fire, the smoke from it becomes a sweet savor to our Father. This is a freewill offering and nothing approaching what Jesus has done once and forever for all who accept Him

When she said this, I though, gee, I would really like to please God with a freewill offering, especially if it is a sweet savor to Him, so I put out my cigarette, with two cartons more in the larder and almost four packs a day, I just quit, happy as a lark that even I could do something that could please our Father. It was wonderful, and though I did have one or two cravings.......I was just too happy to smoke again.

Now, I do not like to be around someone smoking. No, I do not condemn them, I just do not like the smell any more, it ihas been 22 years, and I praise God for getting me out of that ridiculous dependency. He is so good.

So, were I to condemn any smoker for smoking, I would, in actual effect, be condemning myself, and that is just not happening. Praise God. I pray if it is the case that you are a smoker, I really pray this has helped you. You are family in Christ either way. God bless you.........j

It's a bad habit that is not good for you and it's also an expensive habit!

I remember walking down to the drug store back in the 70's and buying my dad a pack of cigarettes for only 50-60 cents a pack.

You also have me beat on age. ;)

My wife has a cousin who lives in Oregon that came to visit us a little while back and he is a smoker and was very excited to see that a carton of cigarettes cost half as much in Missouri as they do in Oregon, so he bought 2 cartons before he left to go back home.

I don't think smoking is a sin per se, but it is bad for your health. Also, there are different kinds of smoking. I believe cigarettes are much worse for a person than pipe smoking or cigars.

/takes another puff on tobacco pipe while contemplating the evils of smoking

It's a sin against your body

However, you will not go into the lake of fire (hell) for it.

OP- Nope. Nothing wrong with smoking. It isn't the healthiest thing in the world, most health issues occur due to a long term addictive habit.

But anything can become an idol- especially items of addictive nature. If you find yourself in a position where cigarettes are more important to you than God- then smoking can be a sin.

You all aren't in CoMO, are you? Did you know you have to be 21 to buy? City council is doing whatever they can to ban smokers without outright banning them. Even as a non-smoker... it drives me nuts. In cases like this- live and let live.

Then again.... CoMO has a lot more problems than how they treat smokers....
