Default College Student: Liking/Disliking My Sociology Major

    Hey ya'll
I couldn't really figure out the best place to post this aside from maybe young adults.
But I've only been FINALLY in my long desired Sociology major for one semester and I have a love hate relationship with it.
Not the same type of relationship that I would have with school in general but I love learning and diving into new material but so much of it is very heavy and broken, and changes how I've approached things in everyday. It challenges me in so many ways.

But also because it is a public university, alot of the ideas and view points are secular and aim to blur out Christ/Christianity. I see alot of correlation in what they teach and relationship vs. religion. But not only do I have no one to digest the topics with from class because it is an online program, but I also have no fellow Christians who I can spill my thoughts, ideas, connections and pains to who may understand what I'm learning.

I'm in a very lonely boat. I've been going to God alot more. I've only recently been thinking about if my original intent is really worth my spiritual pain and heartache, or if I were to drop out or change majors would I be going the easy way out.
The material itself is not hard, it's the spiritual side of it and not having anyone on "my team" to see the connections.

I would love some thoughts, ideas, directions, prayers, anything basically.

I was in an actual college with people and teachers to interact with. I imagine that the classroom in an on-line college would be a very lonely place. Unless your taking a Religion course most if not all of the material will have a secular viewpoint. Perhaps, if you have not already done so, consider finding a church to help you in dealing with your spiritual pain. I will say a prayer of God to alleviate your loneliness.

In 20 years do you think you'll say "I'm glad I took the easy way" it are you more likely to say "it wasn't easy but it was worth it"?
So frequently we people's attitudes as "if it's hard it's time to quit". So we see people divorce because the marriage requires work. We see people job hop and never get roots.
The more you fight to earn or keep what you have the more you cherish it. The better you use it. The stronger you become.
Following God isn't about taking the path of least resistance, quite the opposite in fact. You have chosen a lifestyle that will constantly be working against you.
But we are not called to run away from the world. We are called to exist within it, and influence it for the better.

This is clearly what you want to do. So now you want to quit because it's not easy? So you think you'll feel good about that in the future? Is that what you want your legacy to be? To be the precedent you set for your life? Run when it gets difficult?
The bible talks about the armor of God, preparing for life like a soldier. Soldiers don't run from the fight, they run into it, guns blazing, knowing it won't be easy, but still ready to win.

I don't know if you visit the live chat, but if not, that might be something that would be good for you.
You can probably use the interaction.

If you've put a lot of prayer and reflection into picking your major, you probably shouldn't change it without an equal amount of prayer and reflection. It's fine to change plans if you take your time, and really think it through, and really feel it's how God is leading you. But you shouldn't do it flippantly.

In my own life, when I've spent a lot of time and prayer making an important decision, I only tend to second guess it if I'm not spending enough time in the word. If God has led us into something, especially something hard, we're more likely to have doubts when we're ignoring the one who led us there. When I refocus on God, doubts usually just disappear.

Maxwel, I actually tend to spend more time in the live chats on here than the forums. The primary reason I posted on here is because for the past few months when I have gone on, I have had not been able to used my mic and it has frozen up on me. Not sure if it is because of my Adobe software, or Chrome, or what but I've kind of given up not on CC but on technology LOL

As with all secular secince, you'll find baised theory. What you won't be learning who missionaries changed the many cultures with the Gospel message. Even Charles Darwin and other atheist had praised the Gospel and missionaries. But no, humanism must be the answer to the problem of human nature.
