I have been dealing with an issue that I have with my dad lately. And it’s one that I’m not sure I can really place what my issue is.

I am a person who is probably less spiritually mature than I should be, and one thing that never happened at the house was us speaking about godly things, or praising in front of each other. Wed pray together at night but that was about it.

My Dad has always been a pragmatic man, and he has now with his cancer diagnosis become more prone to praising, listening to the word, his entire view and ways of going about things are probably like 9% God focused. And nothing else.

None of these are bad things!! They’re good actually and I should be so happy! But I’m not. I feel like I’m on the ground and he’s in the clouds and I can’t reach him. I can’t connect with him like I had for 26 years. And I’m genuinely sad.

I pray God changes my attitude so that I can have the right one, but I feel like I’m just not able to have that sort of connection that we used to have because his entire view of things has been changed so drastically.

Part of my humanness wants to blame God or all the more Christian related things he is doing: listening to the Bible all night, praying a ton, watching nothing but Christian programming, but I know that he’s trying to keep his focus on God during this time.

That is good! But for some reason I feel like I’m losing my daddy. Like I’m too worldly or not spiritual enough to be able to keep up.

This may be a dumb question, but why can't you ask to join with him as he does his bible studies?

Well he doesn't really study so much as listen to the Bible on tape like a lot through the night. When he watches different preachers on TV I usually sit with him, but for some reason after a while I get burnt out. He watches them like all day most of the time. If he watches something else it's mostly cuz he knows me and my mom like it.

Babe you cannot compare yourself to your dad because your both different. it's only naturally he would seek to be closer to God he is dealing with all of this stuff and sometimes even with such an amazing family the only comfort we can truly find is in him. This however does not mean he is leaving you behind spiritually, people grow in faith at different rates. I mean even within my first two years of faith people were absolutely shocked when I told them I was only two years in they thought I was a veteran and had been saved for years while others might take ten years or so to reach the point I was at. But even so we don't compare each other because no matter how strong one person may be in faith they may need what a person who seems weaker in faith has.
I mean a lilly doesn't compare itself to a rose does it? No the lilly shines it's own unique beauty a kind of beauty that the rose could never muster.

However on the other hand it is true that this could be conviction from the holy spirit, perhaps seeing your dad like this awakened a realization of sorts.

I am the same way when it comes to watching preachers on t.v.. Everyone has their own way of connecting and being with God I go on walks and chat on cc both of those things to the average eye doesn't seem like I'm being with God but these are two ways that he and I are able to connect and to grow together but if i say listen to a sermon I get antsy and burned out probably because I am a hands on kind of person I learn far more from experience and from interaction than reading something or listening to something which would explain why I was not good at school lol.
