As a few of you all know, I'm currently a OSU student majoring in Zoology and is planning to work at a AZA zoo specializing in education on conservation and also plan to find a Christian conservation group such as A Rocha to volunteer with.
I have always been passionate with wildlife being that I grew up in Fla around wetlands and used to love watching Gators, river otters, snakes, etc Plus I grew up watching Jack Hanna and Steve Irwin which I considered both role models.
I do blog about it alot on different blogs including Christian ones my feelings about how important conservation is and why as christains need to take a stand on it.
I been emailed by a few on the christian side accusing me of "pushing a far-left agenda" or that "it is sinful to worship the earth." I even had one told me I was being brainwashed by PETA" (if I was being brainwashed by PETA, I wouldn't be working at a zoo).

While I'm not fully on Al Gore's camp about Global Warming, I do feel by destoying somethhing like a rainforrest or wetland we will see negitive reaction to it. God gave us these things for a reason and we have an obligation to protect it from being wiped out.
Is it a sin to hold that opinion? well I look at the ible where God told Noah to take 2 animals of each kind onto the ark.
Where am I worng?

Honestly as long as you don't love animals and nature more then you love God and then people, no, it isn't wrong. When you put anything ahead of God, then that is an Idol, even if is something you think he wants you to be doing. Just don't make it bigger then Him, but rather for Him. You can even use your love of nature and creation in general to bring people to God by showing them His creation.

And if you put like pink jackets and stuff on your gators, then seek immediate help. People who love animals more then people are crazy, I'm just sayin....:)

Of course I don't. I just want to use my passion to make the world a better place just like WIlliam WIlberforce did when his passion for ending the slave trade in Britain was very sucessful.
I yam what I yam (in the words of Popeye).

While there are other social issues like homelessness that need to be addressed, there are just as many people dedicated to those problems.

What really got me into conservation itself was when I was 9 years old on a field trip and they brought out a florida panther. When we told about this species was going to be wiped out soon. One of my classmates asked her why, the zookeeper told her because of their homes being destroyed just like other animals. I was so moved by it, I decided to become involve in the movement to work with endangered species.
I just recently read an article saying there are only 70 of the fla panthers left and alot of experts including Jack Hanna predict they will almost be extinct within the next 10-15 years.

Alligator Guy: We can't all be Billy Graham or MLK or Mother Theresa. IMO, it's a good thing, to care for animals that can't defend themselves. Wasn't that like, the original job description for mankind? Adam, name the animals and watch over them, or something like that. :)

I'm with DJNess. If your passion for God exceeds your passion for the animals, I don't think anything's wrong.

Aligator guy.... Caring for the enviroment is great, God made us stewards of his world so yeah, we should look after them. The problem only comes when you let looking after wildlife you God instead of God. If it came between saving the wildlife and saving people's souls ask yourself the question where would you be then? :)

I love wildlifee too, I don't think it's bad unless you act like some crazy people of PETA(like when they threw a bag of fluor at Lindsay Lohan lol). I love animals and Im so sad some of them are almost extinct , like the siberian tiger :/. I think working to preserve these animals or habitats it's a great and important job, after all, we all live in this world.
