Do you think this grieves the Holy Spirit? Do you think it's a sin? Sometimes I smoke weed and it makes me think about God and the world, rather than becoming mindless.

Yes, I think it is. If you have to use a substance to feel God then in my opinion your doing something wrong. In Acts when the Holy Spirit came at Pentecost people thought the disciples were drunk.
The bible says don't get drunk on wine get drunk on the holy spirit. I guess the same could be said about weed. Don't get high on weed, get high on the holy spirit. :D

I used to smoke weed. I stopped mainly because I just got bored with it (that and i'm intensely paranoid). I don't think there's anything wrong with doing it. In fact, I support legalization.

from a "christian perspective" its as wrong as getting drunk I suppose. but that hasn't stopped most "christians" that I know =P

I've never used drugs. Maybe I should do it once for the experience.

It all depends on the perspective you want to use. Liberal people will often agree with it's use because of their free-to-do-anything type of thoughts; other people might think it's used for medical purposes so they'll also support it's regular use; etc.
If you want to go use a Christian perspective just ask youself if your Lord would approve of it or ask youself if you'd do such thing in front of Jesus.

2291: The use of drugs inflicts very grave damage on human health and life. Their use, except on strictly therapeutic grounds, is a grave offense. Clandestine production of and trafficking in drugs are scandalous practices. They constitute direct co-operation in evil, since they encourage people to practices gravely contrary to the moral law.

endlessgrace, I used to smoke weed and I will tell you my convictions and my experience with it.

In my opinion and experience, there was nothing wrong about smoking weed in the sense that it never damaged my ability to think and reason or affected my body in any way. In fact, the more I smoked weed the more I realized that there was a creator, someone who hasn't smoked weed will not understand this but I was very grateful for God creating cannabis. When I smoked I would be relaxed, now of course I don't need weed to be relaxed, but through something that God created He blessed me by making very relaxed and enjoying music, including worship music, at a deeper level than I could think.

But then again I knew that most of society looks at it as something that is wrong, including my parents. And so that is when I started to ask the Holy Spirit for guidance and to tell me if it pleased Him if I did it and to show me that it was wrong, and He surely answered. He answered me with a thought.

Jesus Christ came to earth, and while He was here He not only fulfilled the earthly law, but He fulfilled the heavenly law with perfection and in obedience to the Father always. If Christ so did this and we call ourselves His followers, then who are we to not submit to the law? Cannabis is illegal under federal law in all the country, even if it is available for medical patients they are still transgressing the law under federal.

Now your testimony, most people like I said see cannabis as impure, so why would you want to be a stumbling block to someone else? If you truly love your brothers in Christ you will stop smoking. I truly understand that it is something that you really really enjoy, and in my opinion there is nothing morally wrong against it, there is nothing spiritually wrong against it either because God was able to reach me and speak to me while I consumed it. Most of the time I consumed it I was thinking about Him.

But do it because of your love for Christ, this conviction is not exclusive to me. It applies to all of us. So if you really want to please God, ask Him to make you stop by His power.

The Greek word "pharmakia" literally means "drugs", and appears five times in the New Testament: in Gal 5:20, Rev 9:21, 18:23, 21:8, and 22:15. "Pharmakia" is translated into our English Bible as either "witchcraft" or "sorceries". We also get our English word "pharmacy" from the Greek word "pharmakia".
In each of the above five passages, "pharmakia", or "drugs" is listed as a work of the flesh of man as opposed to the Spirit of God working in us.
For example, Gal 5:16-23 in the KJV:
16 "[This] I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.

19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are [these]; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

20 Idolatry, witchcraft ("pharmakia" or drug use), hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,

21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told [you] in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

23 Meekness, temperance (self control) : against such there is no law."
The King James Bible translators translated "pharmakia" as "witchcraft", because almost no one but witches and sorcerers used drugs 400 years ago. Drugs were most commonly used in pagan worship to hallucinate and to try to get in touch with evil spirits.
This can be serious stuff! In Rev. 21:8, God says that people who are continually characterized by drug use will have no part in the Kingdom of God.
I would recommend learning how to walk in the Spirit and studying the New Testament Epistles to the Churches (Romans to Jude).
As we grow in grace and the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, we will find ourselves wanting to do things that please God.
Look again at Gal 5:22 & 23, "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering (patience), gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance (self control)"
Isn't that what the whole world is looking for? It's automatic, when we walk in the Spirit!
The Christian life is a "supernatural" life, and we cannot please God in our own energy. We can only please God by allowing Him to work THROUGH us.

Almost all drugs sold on the street have been passed down by some sadistic, murderous, psychotic gang member and your supporting his underground black market business. Someone could've gotten murdered over that marijuana your smoking.

I would definetly search out the scriptures myself and see what the word of God says about getting wasted, the bible will answer all your questions if you really want to know the truth, pray on it.

1Thes 5:5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. 6 Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. 7 For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night. 8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.

1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

I got it from a friend who grew it himself, so I didn't have to worry about that. He ended up getting busted but still =P

I support legalization so that you DONT have to buy it from psychotic mexican cartel members. People are always gonna smoke it, so legalizing it will not only generate revenue, but allow us to regulate it, taking away the cartel's business.

alcohol is legal and we still aren't supposed to get drunk, legalising anything isn't going to change what the bible says, God bless

The Bible doesn't talk about weed at all, and it's only illegal b/c it's really hard to centralize the sales and tax it. It has nothing to do with the dangers, b/c alcohol is far more dangerous than weed.

Often discussed is the line between use and missuse.

Some cancer patients are given marijuana and also those with anorexia have been given this with good results.
Grown with love and respect for a good cause?
Like wine can be enjoyed and also over consumed..

I personally dont want to use drugs and getting high on holy spirit sounds good to me.
But also being humble to how thingz can be...

I have tried drugs.
Different reasons i wont go in on now (to long to explain in one thread....) :)

True comfort comes in another form I think and sometimes that can not be seen.

We all are different also in how we react to drugs or medication. Some are allergic...

I guess I would just wish and will the best for everyone....
to be and do there best they can be in who and all they are.
Marijuana can be destruktive and one can become addicted...
But so is not always the case..
Maybe it can be good sometimes, used the right way.

Not sure how I stand entirely there but do know that I personally dont want to use it (been there done that)
Tried it and not for me.

I like to be open minded in my thoughts and not judge as theings are not always as they appear to be or seem to be (seen enough films about that ;) and also experienced it myself getting judged wrongfully by those that did not know or see ...) (God is my witness :) )

I love a glass of wine and alcohol but for different reasons I have a history of overdrinking it.
Often its been cause Ive been isolated, lonely, hurting etc and for releif, peace but in the end it never gave me those things truly.
A friend once said the only releif I get from my pain is if Im drunk, drugged or asleep.
But there are other ways to get releif.
Turning to God, faith.
(i did score a cuddle once(non sexual) from overdrinking and I was in need of it)w rong way to get it but I understand my person and her reasons...

Dalai Lama says beautifully ; There is but one medicine: Love and compassion.

If one does not feel those things and only has hate upon one and ones individual life situation is horrid one should keep it within and do ones best anyway...Choose to love.

Where I was raised it is a very dramatical thing to smoke marijuana but in other countries most people do it, like drinking beer.
I do still think it is a problem in society for those who missuse it for various reasons and it becomes detruktive for them.
But am still open to using it in good manner....such as it has been used for healing but in moderation.....

1 Peter 5:8 is all I need to know I don't want to get into it.

I've got enough trouble with the devil, I don't need to be inebriated and leaving the door open.

I am just wondering where on earth did we get the idea of smoking? Seriously light something on fire Johnny and inhale the fumes! Although I guess I'm not one to talk because I smoke half a pack a day and I recently quit smoking weed only because I had a bad trip

Do you think this grieves the Holy Spirit? Do you think it's a sin? Sometimes I smoke weed and it makes me think about God and the world, rather than becoming mindless.

my birthday is 4-20 and my eyes are green. Through most of my youth I smoked very much marijuana. Unlike most people I got hyper when I smoked. And I grew up in a hostile kind of household with alcohol and very mean demeanors. I would rage back at my parents and my siblings, and sometimes things got smashed or people hurt. When I would go outside and smoke a spiritual side would fall on me, and like you said I would think about GOD and I'd pray and I could go inside feeling that my anger was silly and I'd let the love from inside of me abound and just that energy would almost instantly flood through my family and everyone would calm down and get back to the love in the family. I can't tell you how many times I've held the attention of 4 smokers outside at my pond late at night discussing the Lord and His lessons. I won't sit here and tell you its wrong. I will say that the Lord requests that we come in a sober mind. But I will honestly say that it comes with maturity in Christ. I don't smoke anymore. I quit this last time when I came to the Lord. However I was at a funeral recently where a close friend of the family lost his wife and I smoked with him. The bible says its not what we do, but why we do it that matters. If marijuana is helping you to strengthen your faith, your family or other peoples faith around you I wouldn't say to quit til you are ready. But there will come a time when "spiritually" you will outgrow assistance from that substance made by God, and at that time all you will need is your relationship with GOD, and when the Lord puts it on your heart don't hold back. Good luck brother and God bless
