I was about to say that too leelee - rape is rape whether a stranger in the dark or the partner you've loved for years. Men can do it to women, or to men, and women can do it to both too. They could be a girlfriend, stranger, acquaintance, husband, brother, grandparent..you name it. Plus no matter how hard anyone tries, not everyone will live a 'perfect' existence. Christians (or at least those who call themselves Christians) have raped too. The only way to abolish it and therefore extra-marital intercourse is to make sure no-one can have sex, or no-one has the ability to disobey God, and that won't happen.
We could make it that no-one could have sex but then I guess planet of the apes would come true.
And outlawing things has hardly worked in the past. Heroin is illegal but it doesn't stop users.

Here we go with willful misunderstanding again.

because i don't agree with it as a form of contraception. its one of those grey things i keep speaking about. besides had anybody bothered to ask and not presume they knew my thoughts this would all have been explained ages ago.
You were defending the permissibility of abortion as a whole. Did you not realize that? That's what we were discussing about. We weren't talking about abortion as a result of X, but abortion in general. You have defended it's permissibility, which isn't a grey issue at all.

Actually if you read over the whole thread you will find that people did not agree with abortion after rape of when it was a danger to the child or mother to continue the pregnancy. Or did you not realise that?

When I said we, I was referring to you and I.

First off, it is not our place to decide what God can do with a life that to us seems doomed...i.e. a raped mother, incest, etc. God can work miracels through those lives just as he does through yours and mine.
Congrats to those of you who made it to the alter before having sex. It's a great honor to have that self-control. It's a blessing that few are able to experience. But, many of us, Christian or not, do not make it that far. I did not. it is true that the only man I've ever had sex with is my husband, but it began before we got married. I was very repentant, and I didn't realize at the time that he was almost completely dependant on me doing what was right. Let me tell you, it was pure hell. We dated for 5 years before we got married. 3 of those years we had sex. I tried and tried and we just couldn't stop. It was one year before we got married when it finally broke. Something inside me knew that I needed a full year to feel like I had tried so hard to accomplish. The Lord gave me that. It was VERY difficult, but I was completely celibate for the year before I got married.
One thing I learned was that the saying is true. Sex is really not much in a marriage unless it's not there. My husband and I had learned to have sex, but not to be intimate. As much as I tried to find that intimacy, there was a time when I just gave up the search. This made it all carnal again. I was not in it. I just wanted it over with. Learn intimacy before you learn sex. Sex is nothing without intimacy.

Hmm, well I'm 26, made an oath of celibacy way back when, kept it out of faith and pride of honor- caused nothing but grief to me. Every woman i mention it to goes straight into 'Aww' mode; usually mentioning how she wishes she had done that, then relegating me to the status of a child or something of the sort. Yea i should go out with a woman who's also saving herself from marriage, but apparently finding a smart, funny, mature, attractive AND celibate woman even in the church is an exercise in futility these days. I'm tired of this crap...

ughhhhhhh The ignorance of this world bothers me. I am totally for abstinence btw. The reason I am replying, however, is because of all this nonsense about abortions. First of all, most people who are pro-choice are completely uneducated on the whole thing... I do give credit though to the people who have educated themselves before taking a side. NO REALLY. THANK YOU. Now, I am pro-life for a couple of reasons. Firstly, It is my belief that God knows what he's doing okay... if he put a baby inside you, it's supposed to be there. Every child is a blessing, even if the parent doesn't deserve it or doesn't accept it or wasn't expecting it. Does God just not know what he's doing?? And of course, any time this topic is brought up someone is going to make an argument about conceiving a child after being raped.... which again brings us to what I said previously. GOD put it there, he knows what hes doing. Obvious point coming up next: Who knows what those children could have grown up to be? They could have created a cure for some horrible disease our world faces today, been the president who saved this economy, or even been the waitress you see every day at the diner who has brought 23 people to Christ. WHO KNOWS. Another reason I am pro-life is because I've seen how they murder (yes, I said murder) the babies. It isn't painless. Look up photos on google as well... I dare you. AND these babies are innocent, and DEFENSELESS. I for one am glad though that you can't choose the same fate for your kids AFTER they are born... well a lot of us would be in big trouble then. :p Ugh... but enough of my ranting... I'm tired.

Well said- I absolutely agree with you.

As for the argument about being raped and getting pregnant from it- again, you're right. God put that child there. God has His reasons for allowing bad things to happen to people- sometimes that really sucks, yes, particularly if you're the one the bad thing happens to. However, sometimes something truly beautiful comes from our suffering.

It's unfortunate that most people don't understand that and don't WANT to understand it.

I find it very amusing coming from a completely different culture background and country and seeing how you speak of "adoption" like it's so easy. Here in my country South Africa you don't just put a baby up for adoption and bam boof there's parents that want the baby. Most of these babies ends up in rubbish heaps, toilets, or orphanages where they live in poverty. People like myself who do are relatively try our best to help but there's only so much money compared to the hundreds of babies here in South Africa who are dumped because they're parents don't want them. What quality life does a poor old baby have that has been thrown inside a rubbish bin and is eaten up by dogs?? Or a baby who is 9 months old who is raped? That's the reality I live in and you people from first world countries don't even have the slightest idea what goes on in countries like mine and the cruel poverty here in some areas. People are willing to kill their own babies. Heck recently a baby was found inside a toilet with his umbilical cord still on. Some of you say oh just put the baby up for adoption and let a 11 year old little girl who has been raped carry the child. Seriously?? And what then? This poor little girl has the baby and what now? Give it up for adoption? Uhm no because then there's a waiting list of thousands and this baby has to go to a shelter and live in horrid conditions. It's VERY easy to speak so half heatedly about things when you are privileged and live a nice life in a nice country but guess what there's a WORLD out there that are MUCH different than yours.

I believe that God created sex as a form of pleasure that enables people who r married to continue being interested in each other!! I believe that God knew all the problems that were to be associated with fornication and therefore commanded us not to fornicate.

sadly i must agree with you. and another question might be: when that 11 year old girl stands before god, will it be for judgment or as a witness in god's judgement of us, in the "first" world. we are drowning in our own fat while this is happening.

im 34 and still saving it for my future husband..at first it was really hard to fight back lust but prayer is really helpful..prayer is the only thing that kept me from doing it..now it's not difficult to say no..if you met somebody who is not ready to accept that then he is not the one..to wait is to have God's best..my God is faithful..im holding on to that!
