Hey,

I've been wondering, Whenever i'm at like college or some public place, and people get to talk about religion, there's always a few people that go YES IM CHRISTIAN! And they sort of talk about it for a bit.
But then they hang out with their friends and i hear them cuss, use God's name in a bad way, talk about sex/drugs all that stuff, and it makes me think.
If people hear others call themselves christian, then continue to do these things, it's not really a good thing is it, people will just all christians are like that.

So yea i might've worded it a bit bad but i hope you get the point, What do you guys think about this?

I know exactly what you're saying. There are a lot of people who claim to be Christians, maybe because they were brought up in a Christian home, or because it is more socially acceptable where they live to claim that, but many are not Christians in what it really means: Followers of Jesus Christ. As the old cliche goes, "Standing in a garage doesn't make you a car anymore than standing in a Church makes you a Christian". There is a difference between living as Christian and saying you are a Christian because you've been told you should be, and yet doing un-Christian things. :)

You don't have to use every person you meet who says they are Christian as your role-model.

Of course that was never said... or even implied. It was merely an observation of common this happens. And it is a bad reflection on the true church.

But yeah, i think the majority of them are just raised that way. I know when i was younger i called myself a Christian because thats what my family said we were. I had no idea what it meant, other than we were supposed to be 'good' people. Whatever that means haha.

Interesting subject. I can quote myself in being 'a Christian' but never knowing what it really meant until I was saved. I just thought it mean 'beleiving there was possibly a God' and hopefully saving a seat in heaven.

Oh the things we are blinded from!

As a new beleiver and a passionate one I did find it difficult coming across church members who were half in and half out. Kingdom on Sunday, out causing havok the rest of the week. Very confusing for me. Ofcourse it is a very misleading perspective on Christianity and it hurt me to think of the people led astray/hurt by it.

It has always been evident. I think each person is responsible for their walk and witnessing and much to their own pace. And as much as it breaks my heart - let God do the changing. It is unfortunate however we do live in a fallen and not perfect world full of humanity lol :) God is awesome.

She never implied anything. She just made a general comment. You are actually the one who is implying that she said something she didn't say.

Hey Peter,

I do believe people are at different stages and levels in their journey with Christ. A Relationship with Jesus, being Born-again in Him, being Saved, Repentance, Fruits of the Holy Spirit are good signs but we all need to start somewhere right to get to those places ^^^
I remember seeing a picture and I tried to find it on google but basically it was this saved guy who was hearing other people throw stones at a sinner, then showed a speech bubble of the saved sinner saying, oh i was like that once, before Jesus saved me and had mercy on my sins and showed me the way to salvation.. (wish I could find it, the picture I mean)
But I agree with you that it's not a good thing to use God's name in a bad way :( You're right, it's not a good representation of being Christian. They might have a desire to get to know Jesus more but are still swayed by peer pressure or the world.. Let's Pray for God to work in them, inside out and in their lives to be changed to followers of Christ Jesus.
Hey have you seen a movie called To Save a Life ? To Save A Life - Official Movie Site - Now available on Blu-ray & DVD - To Save A Life Movie
Encouraging people in their journey to Christ, correcting them in love, being an example for them.
1 Timothy 4:12 comes to mind.

Hope that wasn't too long. God Bless You Peter !

Thanks for posting that :)

A comment without implication. OK. Whatever you say.

Hi Peter - We Irish have a saying:
"A trade not properly learned is an enemy"!

I think lots of people confuse Christianity with their faith or church.

Well then what was she implying?? Her comment seems pretty simple and straightforward.
I meant people should think for themselves while seeking truth and not look at other Christians behavior as an example of what Christianity really is.
It separates us and causes us look for faults in others when we really should be working together.

:)
