If for some reason we were in a crisis situation and that was what we needed to do, I bet we could do it without any harm :)

I rmemeber watching a thing on TV that spoke about the snake handlers and their beliefs, including knowing that yes people can still die from it.

They hold faith that if the snake does bite them, if God wants them to live, God will overpower the poison and the person will survive, but if the person dies, then God decided it was time for the person to go.

Some snake handlers profess that they are allowed to see a doctor for snake bites, one of them said "I am not God, it is not up to me if my fellow parishoners see a doctor or not, if they want a doctor, they can get a doctor."

Still you do have to look at the fact that God does want us to make wise decisions and when satan was trying to get the best of Jesus when Jesus wandered into the wilderness to be tempted, Jesus said "thou shalt not put the Lord thy God to the test." and I think putting up a risk of being bit by a venemous snake really is trying to put God to a test, so I would not recommend this practice of snake handling.
