I also have to add, that sometimes things are used to discipline us, such as the case of Miriam, Moses's sister. In her case, she developed leprosy, because of her speaking ill against Moses. That story is found in Numbers 12.
&that had to do with the power of words. :)

Both sides of this argument speak to me deeply, and I don't think they need to fight. :)
I don't think God wants any of us to be sick. 100% healthy is what we are all meant to be.
But in times when we are forgetful of our purpose and our great spiritual potential here on earth, I believe God will test us with sickness to get our attention. To let us know we've forgotten to pay attention to something. So we may see what we can overcome in Him. That's my take on all this.

I don't think medicine is blasphemy and I don't think we're "supposed" to be sick. The medicine just gives us more time, but it doesn't stop the inevitable sickness from getting our attention.
Seriously, our wimpy little meds are no match for God.

I'm not against meds, I'm against medicine IF you think it was the will of God to be sick, ya know?

Yeah, I kinda saw what you meant by it. =)

It's an oxymoron really, to think of God actually wanting us to be ill. But I suppose that was your point.

I know because I've been praying to God for years to get rid of a porn addiction I have and He decided not to help me.

Where is your sense of responsibility?
Why do you think that God has decided not to help you?
I think those are honest enough questions. My responsibility wanes these days because I've tried to quit and I quote from what many Christians have told me "not from my own strength, but relying on God strength" I've tried understanding that and quote "submitting myself fully" and of course praying to God for my miricale. How much have I tried you may wonder... I don't know how many times I've tried. If I guessed, I'd put the number around 70. My reasons for failing aren't that complicated. I have a medical condition that my doctor diagnosed me with. See below.

God can't help us if we don't help ourselves.
I overcame porn addiction.
Did Saul of Damascus help himself as he was martyring Christians?

Jesus: "So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full." Matthew 6:2

Also don't presume to know me. People are complex. You havn't considered underlying factors that make me more suseptible to a porn addiction. 1. My dad never had "the talk" with me 2. I was never punished for watching porn 3. Obviously the biggest factor is that my libito is many times higher than average because of a disorder I have.

Given your haughty attitude to me and privious comments, I don't trust that you really had a full fledged porn addiction, nor do I have reason to trust that.

I never had a father.

2. I was never punished for watching porn.

Neither was I.

Keep holding on, God always comes through. :)

You only think that because He came through for you. If that's your definition of God "coming through" then God failed me.

I'm not gna reply to anyone saying God wants you sick
Doesn't want you to sin either, but you do. Sickness comes as a result of sin and we all sin.

Jesus HEALS sickness.
You're right he does. When you pray he also says no sometimes.

IF YOU THINK GOD MADE YOU SICK, THEN TAKING MEDICINE WOULD BE BLASPHEMOUS!
Says who? Ever thought God gave us doctors for a reason?

CALVINISM IS FALSE.
Refer to this thread, you may find it intresting -- http://christianchat.com/bible-discussion-forum/38629-elect.html

It wasnt suppose to be a discussion anyway...
I honestly don't know why any of you are bothering, he has made his feelings perfectly clear and basically wants no disagreement.

JESUS NEVER TOLD SOMEONE NO!!!.That's a lie from the enemy! Jesus never said to pray for the sick, he commanded us to HEAL the sick. If God made you sick, then taking medicine would be interfering with the plan of God. Just because sickness comes doesn't mean you can't rebuke it. It saddens me. The church has turned weak.

Then God must be a liar. Porn addiction also has to do with you doing what? Making a choice.

I hate to say it, but maybe what I said wasn't so harsh. Of course, I shouldn't have assumed anything... I don't recant my apology, though; porn sucks. 'Nuff said.

Me being a guy (I know all guys don't struggle with this, but it's common), I have looked at porn in the past. I hate saying it, and I hate that I did it. But it's there. Am I over it? I'd say yes. It wasn't easy, though, and it's a bugger. Temptation still comes, however, but not as much as it did when I did the deed.

I said what I did because to me it seemed as if you wanted God to just make this all go away. Now, I can understand if you'd want that to happen... If you're really in that much pain, I'm sorry, bro...

But there is truth in the statement, "God helps those who helps themselves."
1st Corinthians 10:13
13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
Maybe that way of escape is just pressing the button to turn of the monitor. Helping yourself in that situation may be just reaching out with your thumb to press the button. Maybe that way of escape is getting rid of the media all together. Helping yourself in that situation may be tossing the media box in the trash. I'm not suggesting you do that, although, if you think it'll help, I'd encourage you to. I'm just trying to paint two extremes for you.

Don't give up! This fight isn't impossible to win! You've already got the Victor of the war inside of you! And with the Victor comes victory :)

Taking the medicine when sick could just as easily be God's will and plan. That is a baseless statement I am afraid :/

Let's just look at this here...
Everyone sins. Sickness comes from sin. You get sick you take or don't take medicine, it doesn't matter.
God doesn't want you to be sick you say? He doesn't want you to sin either.

God Bless :)

You still didn't get what I was saying.
If God made you sick, then stay sick :) and I have read the NT 100's of times. He never told someone he wouldn't heal them.
