Most definitely not. It is a crime, just like taking someone else's life.

I do see suicide as a sin since it is a form of murder. But only God knows the heart of a person and He is the only Judge.

One of our (Christians) best witnessing opportunities is how we react during pain and suffering. The 'world' watches closely.

Praying that you are not considering suicide :( .

Sometimes it seems like their is no hope; but as long as there is life, there is always hope. There is always 'a way out' of our dilemma (other than suicide), even if we don't see it at the time.

I found this on bible.com:

What does the Bible say about suicide? How does God view it? Do all those who kill themselves go to Hell?

Very few would argue with the fact that suicide is a direct breaking of the Sixth Commandment which is, "You shall not murder." We are not to murder each other or ourselves.

God created human beings in His image and each of us carries within us the potential to overcome the evil in this world, and to rule and reign with Christ in heavenly places. If we are Christians, we no longer belong to ourselves, but to God. We are overseers of our bodies and our lives (which belong to Him), and we are responsible to guard that which has been entrusted to us.

Suicide is a grievous sin that seriously hurts both the heart of God, and those who loved the deceased. The pain of losing a loved one who took their own life is not easily healed, and often isn't fully healed until Heaven.

Whether you are contemplating suicide or know someone who killed themselves, God wants you to know there is hope and life for you. He is the great Healer and Restorer of what has been lost or stolen.

The bible does not specifically address suicide. My opinion is that every suicide is different and God will judge it on a case by case basis. For example, there is a big difference when someone commits suicide because their entire family was killed in car crash, or they are terminally ill--versus someone doing it because of some stupid selfish reasoning.

People try to interrupt it as murder or whatever, but ultimately only God knows how he will judge it—anything else is purely speculation. It could be a ticket straight to hell or maybe not—is it worth the risk? I don’t think so!

On personal note, my dad shot himself and all I have to say is it truly is a selfish act that just dumps a huge void on the family that will never be healed—leaves you with a life time of unanswered question and regrets. It is basically the ultimate jerk move that dumps all their burdens on the family.

In the end, suicide is basically just a copout and people need to stop being wimps and grow thicker skin—especially us Christians.

I realise that I am not answering the OP by posting this..and potentially de-railing this thread a little bit but..

I'm curious about the difference you talk of. Would you mind elaborating?

Mind showing a biblical foundation for sin ever being on a case by case basis?

And the last line of your post, spoken without an ounce of sympathy, empathy or caring. Obviously someone who has never been in the position to consider suicide. To be so rude and insulting to someone struggling only adds to the problem.

I came here to point out that the Bible actually speaks about men of God who commit suicide.
that doesn't mean it's okay to do it. not at all. it makes it impossible for you to do what you are made for.

but I agree with the post above..
to tell someone desperate enough to commit suicide to stop 'whining' can kill him/her. please don't do that if the situation ever comes.

A suicide is called a 'Sin unto Death' ...so I would say yes it is a sin.

But because you can't ask forgivness for it...how does God view it/tackle it? I don't know.

Jesus said, "forgive them, for they know not what they do." In other words, ignorance is a mitigating factor and it itself a basis for forgiveness. The degree to which a person understands what he's doing is therefore a consideration.

It's also possible to commit acts which are sin for you but not sins for others. If you think wrongly that an act is wrong, e.g. eating vanilla ice cream, and nevertheless do it, you've done something wrong even though the act itself is at worst a little fattening. Not only can ignorance warrant forgiveness, but a person can sin out of ignorance.

There is too the idea of scandal. Those who are in a position to influence others are judged more harshly, because their own personal sins don't have the same societal "weight." In James, for instance: "Not many of you should presume to be teachers, my brothers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly." This is especially true when it concerns children.

Sin is based in the heart and not the actions. There are tons of verses which say this. The Lord judges the heart. Suicide is an action, but the heart behind it is judged. Some people kill themselves out of spite. The judgement is first for the spite and not the suicide. Many people commit suicide, with or without intention, out of hopelessness. People who speak so harshly and shall I say ungraciously of those who commit or attempt suicide should live one day in the shoes of someone seriously considering suicide. That kind of insensitivity can be a last straw. That kind of insensitivity is due to arrogance and ungrace. You are not better than anyone else just because suicide hasn't crossed your mind.

God gave man free will, and no matter painful it is for God to watch the events on earth, He is cannot intervene. When you fall and skin your knee, it is painful to you. But your parents cannot prevent you from running and playing, and taking some falls is needed for you to grow up.

God has to let go, just as your parents have to.

Three people in the Bible committed suicide: Saul, Saul's armor bearer, and Judas. None are condemend because of it. Most churches teach that it is murder (of yourself) and hence against the Ten Commandments. In those days, by the Jews, suicide was considered so horrible a thing, they would not ordinarily even consider it, except to prevent greater sins (such as rape) if conquered by an enemy. Most Christians teach so much about heaven, they forget that the Jews knew how to celebrate the God of earthly life. We need to do more of that kind of celebrating, then there would be fewer people hating the world around them.

suicide is a straight path to hell......if theres anything i can be sure of its that if you ( having basic intelligence) commits suicide yes you will not be forgiven unless God has mercy and sends you back like He did for me.

i died in the exact same way as judas .....but i was sent back with a second chance.
where and how can you conclude that judas specifically isnt in hell does it say so somewhere in the bible? if so where so that i may be educated? im not saying judas is deffinatly in hell ive never really thought about it but how would you figure that his not?

Thow shall not murder!

im pretty sure that includes yourself so i will have to say its a definate sin and because you cant repent from it it doubt you can go to heaven from it.

Also the book of revalations state the unfaithful will not enter heaven. by killing yourself you are basicly saying you dont trust God's plan for you

Lets let the word of God speak for itself, and if you have any problems with these clear warnings dont get upset with me its the word of God that is convicting you!

Gal 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are clearly revealed, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lustfulness,
Gal 5:20 idolatry, sorcery, hatreds, fightings, jealousies, angers, rivalries, divisions, heresies,
Gal 5:21 envyings, murders, drunkennesses, revelings, and things like these; of which I tell you before, as I also said before, that they who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
