Yeah, glorifying the occult would suck.

What does that have to do with DnD?
you mean there is no sorcery, witchcraft or anything pertaining to dark spirits in it?

This came from a guy who used to play DnD:
''The occultic aspects of the game are manifold. The casting of spells and the tapping into unseen forces give the game an animistic flavor. The spell casting can be accompanied by various symbols and practices that are straight out of occultic literature and expressly forbidden by scripture. The standard objection to these claims is usually along the lines of "Oh, It’s just a game!," and while that may be true, it does not change the fact that the game mimics actual occultic practices often VERY closely providing the player an ample introduction to occult practices.
As previously mentioned, the alternate world where D&D is played is a polytheistic world where the worship of various deities is not just an option, but a requirement of continued successful game play. The player, through their imagination, partakes of a world where various gods govern and paganism is the rule; it’s the "truth" of the D&D world. The desensitizing of the player to a neopagan worldview could have catastrophic effects''

That's alarmist rubbish.

There is nothing 'occult' about the magic system in Dungeons and Dragons. It's pure fantasy. To cast a spell, you tell the guy running the game, "I'm going to cast Spell X." roll the dice to see how well it worked, and then imagine the effects happening to your pretend enemies.

I am not a gamer either but my husband has played most of his life. I really do not think it is evil. It's just a role playing game that is creativity and fun in your spare time.

AND WE DO TALK DIFFERENT IN THE SOUTH, YOU SHOULD VISIT THE SOUTH, IT WILL PROBABLY BE A WHOLE NEW WORLD TO YOU. IT IS TO MOST PEOPLE. WE GO A LITTLE SLOWER DOWN SOUTH, WE TRY TO TAKE THE TIME TO SMELL THE ROSES.

People are unique, so are GAMERS.

There are people who takes GAMES seriously, others at a different level.

The DANGEROUS aspect about this game is that PLAYERS should be warned that this is just a FANTASY Game,
BUT THEN AGAIN other gamers take it to the NEXT LEVELl -> to the Spirit World.

It will always mask itself as HARMLESS, which is true - but then again
People are UNIQUE and there are different levels that a game is PLAYED
a typical scale would be :

Level 1: Just for FUN
Level 2: Hmmm - Let me do some serious thinking [ gets calculator ], the probability of so and so ...
Level 3: My reputation is at stake - I would be the laughing stock the the group [ My imagination is so dull - I just can't - AAAAAARG! ]
Level 4: What if I try to cast a real spell? <--- Danger starts here [ googles real spells and magic stuff ]

Well these games - If you should know are intellectually challenging, Imagination, Probability, Psychology, Memory and a whole lot more.
Know also that D and D players have different levels of playing also -
from Nothing to do - Lets Play to this is OUR WORLD we are the Game Masters.

I never played D and D board game - though I played the CAPCOM video game version.

TRUE it is Harmless - but this is inadequate information, what would be more appropriate would be

IT is HARMLESS for PLAYERS who treat it as a FANTASY GAME - throw dice and stuff
BUT
Becomes HARMFUL when PLAYERS take it to a SERIOUS LEVEL - a world of their own making -
a place where they play as gods and ultimately enters Sorcery first to check out and soon becomes enslaved by it

Remember that as D & D is a "Harmless Game" -
but question is ----> HARMLESS for which players?

Randomly capitalizing certain words... doesn't really help your point.

And it's true that some people can get too into the game and become addicted. And some mentally unstable people can't distinguish between fantasy and reality. But nobody of sound mind is going to think they can try 'real' magic because of the fantasy magic of the game. The unfortuante truth is, most people who get into occult religions do so because they found mainstream religion lacking in some way--often because they encountered Christians who were either extremely judgmental, or Christians who were extremely disinterested and uncommitted to their faith.

The best way to keep people out of the occult is to help ground them with a firm sense of reality and to live our faith in Christ in a way that makes honest seekers want to learn more instead of run away from the church.

Of course that's your own choice. I just wish to stop the spread of misunderstandings--and in some cases outright lies--that have been spread about the game.

"Randomly capitalizing certain words... doesn't really help your point"
- Denzetsu

Well I agree that there can be Christians who can be extremely Judgemental, but your comment on my reply is also Judgemental.
For you "it doesn't help my point" , for others it does.

It seems to me that you are one of D and D's fans and is a victim of extreme judgemental christians,
Well I'm not being judgemental and you can CAPITALIZE CERTAIN words if you like to prove your point.

The problem with Fantasy Gamers is that they always treat their critics as "southerns" and equate them as extremes and fanatics
which is not the case. These are just stupid marketing strategies deviced by cunning marketers to get people to buy stuff because it is
dangerous and that the church, the parents are against it.

It plays with the REBELLING nature of adulthood, enticing them to purchase these products or watch these movies - the traditional values of the church is being made into a marketing strategy -

If parents, the church and the society is against it - The Rebelling teens will SURELY buy it, disguised as a BREAK from the Norm and authority,
promote a false sense individuality and freedom, which brings more detriment than progress.

I am not against individuality and freedom if it brings good and progress and glory to God -
Sharpen discernment, Ask guidance from the Holy Spirit and these things will reveal their true nature in time
appointed by thr Lord

What is it with Grammar and Spelling that makes your position : THE TRUTH and descredit others.

Fact is that we are humans being. PRONE to make mistakes,
but that doesn't mean that I am of lesser intellect.

Grammar and spelling are not scales to measure the truth,
The word of God, thr guidance of the Holy spirit is,
and I can randomly CAPITALIZE and MisSpell,
But the TruTh my friend is still Delivered.

Defending Christianity from extremists doesn't require you Arrogance.

I'm sorry if I came across as arrogant, it was not my intent. I was just trying to point out that the random capitalization of certain words makes you seem like an extremist yourself, which usually hurts the point you're trying to make.

I wasn't trying to be rude. :(

It's OK, its just that there are a lot of people on the NET who does this -
an obvious example would be YouTube - you read people comments and its always about grammar and spelling.

I wonder just how low these people can get.

Ex. If you search Nursery Rhymes on YouTube -

Grammar and Spelling are not the only things that these bastards check to downplay other people's view,
they even equate a simple mispelled letter to a man's IQ as if there is a correlation between a man's
ability to spell words perfectly EVERYTIME and being intelligent.

There are multiple intelligence - these people must have been Spelling Bee champs who sadly did not
make it in the real work.

Let's pray that these abuses stop, not only are they annoying but affects how people relate to each other.
I've been reading comments and felt irritated by these lowlives and when I logged in here -

I thought here is another one - when will this end?

So that explains why I've let off some steam and I hope that things will be better,
we should teach these lowlives how to love others, to be forgiving when others mispell words
or when what they say is in wrong grammar.

*sigh*
