If you have something to say just say it normally and let the power be in what God is doing, not in some emotionally manipulative showy performance.
You touched on an essential aspect. I think the problem with much of the church nowadays is that it has become too emotional. Too much stuff appealing to emotions, rather than conviction in the Holy Spirit. And worship is many times just a shallow cheap performance.

VERY good point. it should be spirit over soul anyway. i wonder what it will take for the church to wake up as a whole and stop 'playing church'

Hey I have a couple of really good good good pastors to share with you. Read you like online sermons. Me to. It was actually heavy on my heart to start listening to them more just this morning. God used this one pastor J.R Vassar to really get in touch with me. Here are the links. Hope you enjoy them.

Apostles Church > Sermons by Preacher

Audio/Video Messages

The second one is my childhood pastor Dan Lamb. He is one of the most Godly people I have ever met. I swear you can feel God all around him. I was always in awe of my pastor and he is a darn good pastor. Enjoy!

Allow me to bring in an idea. Imagine for a moment that you are the Devil. You have tried, but you cannot destroy the church. You know the promises given to the church, that there will be those ready for the rapture when the trumpet sounds. Knowing that you can't stop it, are there any other alternatives to deal with it?
How about this: instead of trying to destroy them all, start some of your own. Build a professional stage, get a professional speaker or at least someone who is exciting, and build as many of these as you can. Eventually, the nation will be so flooded with false churches that are economically successful that you wouldn't know a real one if you ran into it. The true churches that envy them will copy them. Those that stay on the straight and narrow would lose members to them. Perhaps that's why we have some little churches that's been around forever with just 20-40 people. Perhaps that's why good churches are faltering in membership and there are people in them crying for change. Perhaps that's the reason why it's so hard to find a good church nowadays. Just thinking out loud ;)

I will try to find it and post it for you. I came across it the other day when I was researching the doctrines of the different denominations. It wasn't what I was looking for, it just stuck in my head. It was on the internet so it must be true, on wikipedia for goodness sake. lol They did not show the study that backs it up, which is what I would like to see. Even if that statistic is greatly exaggerated, it's still quite shocking.

no church is perfect. thats because the members are not perfect. ppl often say i dont go to church because there are hypocrites in there. Jesus said he will allow the wheat to grow with the tares. what about the scripture, forsake not the assembling of yourselves? i know sometimes the worship may not go like you like. but, your worship is NOT dependent on those around you... you worship GOd for who HE is and forget those around you.

the early church had a lot of problems. rem Ananias and Sapphira? they just wanted to showoff (and we all know that there are a lot of ppl in church like this)
there were even ppl spreading false doctrines (hermineous ...something like that, i dont rem how to spell it) ; some ppl were really living lies and making the church look bad ( that man in the corinthian church who was with his father's wife) BUT in all that paul never told them to back away from church when you see that happening.
church is a place of worship and learning. i have seen many ppl stop going to church and slowly backslide. many ppl. its soo sad. its almost the first step to backsliding.
my advice is to ask God to lead you to a church where you can learn and grow, one that you are comfortable with. if you ask Him, He will direct you...In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path. God bless! :)

While I do agree that many churches around now that do not care as much about the presence of God and building each other up in community as filling seats and such, there are also many churches that are really authentic in seeking after God. I would urge people to not just settle with the church closest to your home, or what your friends and family attend, but keep searching for a church that really does what you feel like it should. Most of us have different opinions on what a sunday morning church service should be like. My church does have louder music because it is geared towards the younger, college age crowd, and was built from a traveling band's ministry. But other like the more 'old-fashioned' singing from the hymnals with just a piano or guitar as accompaniment. That's one of the best parts about the church as body since there is someplace for everyone to fit in a feel at home. The main part is that everything is centered on God, and not on the individuals running the church.
