The mother is partly responsible for her situation by staying in the abusive relationship; the Pastor is just doing his job; the rich man stepped up and did something he didn't have to do for the good of others. So I'd say the ex-rich man.
Although we are in no position to make any decisions or pretend to be God... I have to admit, I love your way of thinking.

Unscriptural hypothetical questions are in vain and deserve to be discarded. File this one in the round file (e.g. trashcan). Moving along.

Three people enter heaven but God only has room for one more. They are all really good people (by human standers) but you can only pick one. Out of the three, which would you chose and why?

  1. A devoted single mother who suffered a long and abusive relationship
  2. A rich man who gave all is fortunes to help the needy
  3. A pastor who led many souls to heaven.

Again, you can only choose ONE! *evil laugh*

Elizabeth619 I agree. I now regret ever anwering the question. And I was a child of an abusive marriage- it was a living Hell going through that. And iused to wonder why my mum didn't l eave but now I know more of how she must have felt

do these three threads (fun as they may be) remind anyone else of moral relativism?

i know i have homeschool mother syndrome (yes, i did just make it up :) ),
but to speak of who may or may nor be deserving of our help...
or who is most deserving, reminds me of being back in sixth grade.

"you have been in a boating accident. there are five people in a four person lifeboat.
one is a doctor, one a teacher, one a mechanic, one a pastor, and the last (just) a mother.
which four do you save?" (presumably "I" am dead and unable to vote, since there's no 12 yo girl on their list. ;) )

i'm sure none of you meant it as such...just sometimes we may not realize how culture has affected our thinking,
because we're just not thinking about it. :)

thanks for listening, as you always so kindly do-
ellie

Obviously God has no limits so there would never "only be room for one". Theological truths aside...

Jesus says "The first shall be last". Since there is only room for one more in heaven, that means whoever is picked would be the last. So whoever would be considered "first" in this life would be the "last" one entering, which I say would be the rich man.

Assuming he trusted in Christ.

This is an evil question and should not be responded to by any born again believer. Your want people to judge(by human standards) things we can not see. There is only one who knows the hearts and minds of man. There is only one who judges.

It's a brain teaser not a theological survey. Relax.

I will admit it was a bad choice of a question.
