hey everyone,
ive been on this site for a little but this is my first post.

My church is doing a hell house this year at halloween. I know that they are doing it to minister to people and everything... and im not totally against it... it just seems a little weird to me. It seems that they are more fear based than anything. Anyone else have an opinion on hell houses?

if you havent heard of a hell house heres a link to what it is

Would be a Hell House be the same as a Haunted house? I've never heard of it put that way before.

alayna, i guess alot of people compare it to a haunted house. but it doesnt have ghosts or anything, it has scenes depicting events in life like abortion, under age drinking, abuse, hell and heaven. its kinda of hard to explain unless youve been in one i guess... sorry

I stayed away from God for a long time, because as a child I got pulled aside and told that I was going to hell if I didnt get Jesus and get baptised....I thought that the adults around me were insane!! taliking about burning me in a lake of fire! Grew up in divorced home, so love wasnt as obviouse either, I have always thought that it is a horrible advertising idea...like you have this whole ocean full of pure love to show, and speak of...toooooo good of a deal to pass up!! and these crazy christians just want to argue with you and tell you that you are going to burn in hell if you dont jump in an ocean full of love?....God's love is a BIG ENOUGH selling point!! especially with Kids!! and hell is no laughing matter!

It really depends on how it is done I think. I was in a 'judgement house' production when I was younger that ran 6 weeks because of the turn out that we got night after night. It was a great thing I think, BUT it does have a tendency to scare people into God's arms....'fire insurance' if you will....rather than introducing them to the awesome adventure that is a true relationship with our Creator. idk....like I said it's a good thing but God doesn't want our fear. He wants our praises. ...

It souinds like another "substituion" for a worldly extravaganza that churches do. They cannot keep their congregations or people interested in them during these times of the year so they have to do some kind of thing to attract people. As long as they are not charging money, that is not too bad a thing I guess, otherwise, it sounds totally sick.
