One of my hobbies is writing. In the past I'd try to make novels, but that's way out of my league. Recently I've begun doing short stories, and I'm finding the format much more pleasing. My ideas usually aren't big enough to be novels, but serve better as short stories or novellas.

I posted a sci-fi/religion piece called Space and Time on my blog a few days ago.

Another one, more of a general young adult short story (like 500 words), is Departure. (Not the best title, but hey.)

Right now I'd really like to see if there's a place for writers in the church anywhere.

Anyone got stories they care to share?

I like to write when I get the chance. I already finished one book, and working on 3 others, also a sequal to a movie. Im looking for someone to proof read one of the books, But I know I need some gramma change.

I like to write, but as of right now, I feel like I don't have a reason to. I'm taking my last English class here in a few weeks, so hopefully I'll get some good topics.

I like to write. I'm thinking about going to college for a minor in English. I want more insight and ideas to write about.

Hooray! People that enjoy writing! I absolutely love writing. I think it's one of the best ways to express yourself and get creative at the same time. There's no end to what you can do when it comes to writing, and you can put an insane amount of emotion into something by choosing the right words. At times, it becomes a puzzle to find the right word to insert in certain situations to get someone to really feel the emotion or power and emphasis behind something.

I'm not perfect when it comes to writing, nor is anyone, which I think is something very important to understand. I used to aim to write novels as well, but I would always give up half way thinking that I didn't like the way things were going. Don't let frustrations keep you from completing your goal though. After all, writing is like any other creative art and you have to practice to be good at it.

There are a lot of Christian authors out there such as C.S. Lewis that use their writing as a venue to spread the Gospel to others in inconspicuous ways. And then there are authors that write "how to live your life" books that offer every day advice from experienced Christians. Again, freedom to do what you want with the written word. So you have a few options out there.

@Choosingmylife: (If I had figured out how to quote people by now, I would have quoted your previous post... but since I don't know how to do that yet, I have to suffice with this.) I think it's great that you're pondering on going in for a minor in English! My goal is to, at some point, become a creative writing teacher in college. So I find it inspiring to see that there are still people that want something in that field.

I wrote a dream I had. I actually had the dream a few times and, thus, a good deal of detail. I don't think I should post it because it's horror and maybe not the venue for that, but I am not trained in writing. I took enough english and writing courses in college to get me by, but beyond that, I have no experience. I believe the last post nailed it - writing is a good tool to express emotion. Maybe even a last resort!

It's sort of a pipe dream of mine, but I'd like to have a writing style akin to Isaac Asimov or Arthur C. Clarke. They're big names in the sci-fi realm, and I'm a sci-fi writer myself.

I enjoyed the story!
Thanks. :)

since i was a teenager, i've been working on the concept for a multimedia superhero piece. so far, it spans across three movies, three mini-series, and a graphic novel or two.

I like to write too, but I normally do it when sad or angry, to blow off steam, so it ends up quite chaotic. Perhaps more therapy than poetry :p If I do start writing something it normally turns into a long piece of nonsense.

I was an English Lit major before I switched to nursing. I grew up with a writer for a mother, so I guess I come by it naturally. I used to write a lot more than I do now, but I've decided to take a break for a while. I've got story ideas tucked away in my brain. Perhaps they'll make their way onto paper someday.

Keep up the writing! It's good for the soul. :)

The ideas disappear after awhile, madam, so I'd be careful. I'm at a loss if you're one of the individuals who can retain them. Beyond that, whether it's as an avenue to express creativity or capacity, writing almost matches story-telling for greatness. If you have that ability, and I am talking about my own likings, then you almost certainly have the other.

One way or the other, the thoughts that are captured always have the ability to transform a life, a home, and a church.

God bless, my fellow story makers!

that's how my piece started out: as catharsis. once my mood improved, it grew into a completely different animal, if you will.

I'm a bit of writer. I keep it mostly to myself and almost never finish what I start, but hey, I do actually write.

I'm quite the opposite! I would love to be able to write short stories, but I am a novelist instead. I have been working on one for three years--taken it through revisions and right now I'm doing final edits before I send it out to agents.
By the way, if anyone is in need of a proofreader or editor, I know my stuff. :) I could be of service.

I'm working on completion rates. It's difficult to just focus on one topic I imagine. I break my writings down into concepts, but inevitably stray. I need to work on reaching conclusions. Those darn things are elusive.

Keep writting. I hope you can reach your full potential with writing! :)

It's so easy for them to get out of hand, isn't it? It's nice when what needs to be taken to God is and what needs to be written down is. Their shouldn't even be a competition between God and writing, and the wants should follow needs. I think that's much easier said than done for us writers. Of course, I'm also stereotyping heavily, but I think it's a good judgement to say that a lot of us have it backwards.

I know I get it that way a lot.

Does anyone else think about that?

I do too, but it's not just conclusions I have problems with… it always starts out as an idea and rarely gets past the first chapter or two. It's extremely disorganized, and it's not just with writing. I have sketchbooks with half of the pages half full of half completed drawings xD It's terrible.
