Then this is the thread for you!
1.) Do you love or hate group work?
2.) Do you love or hate individual work?
3.) Tell me why.

So, I have been bombarded with 5 group assignments this semester and I feel like I have lost my mind. Two of the projects have been finished. I have two more projects due tomorrow and one of them is an actual presentation. I have my stuff done because I prefer to get stuff finished and on time. However, that is difficult to do when you have a couple students in your group who always wait until the very night before it is due to get their assigned task completed. Yes, if you haven't guessed it, I much prefer individual assignments for various reasons. So, here's why:
  • I do not trust people to get their work finished on time.
  • I hate working in groups because the grades of the people who actually do their work on time and efficiently get penalized so their grades suffer as well.
  • I have never worked well with groups. NEVER. I am fiercely independent.
  • Sometimes, you get stuck with people who you know will not do their part and the teachers are not compassionate to the students who are actually trying.

Now, it is your turn to play along. :)

When the work actually gets delegated out it's better than doing the whole thing yourself. Normally, someone pretty much takes over though.

I am not currently a student, I already graduated (over a year ago) but I'm going to answer anyway.

My major was Psychology and Sociology. Thankfully, I didn't have that many group projects. I know that some majors had quite a few (such as Education) but I'm glad I didn't. I really don't like group projects in school. I'd prefer to work on my own, at my own pace, and not have to rely on anyone else for part of my grade. I get the point of group projects, but not only are they not my cup of tea, it's very difficult to get 5 different college students' schedules to work in such a way that you can all meet to work on it together. It's such a hassle. I never had an issue with the actual members of my team not wanting to pull weight, I just didn't like group projects. At least in high school you typically worked on them during class, and at least in a career you have similar schedules to those on your team.

That's not to say I'm not a team player, or that I hate people. I just never liked group projects for the reasons above.

I'm majoring in human services and the majority of them are all classes with which group work is done. But I think, to be more effective in developing an understanding for YOUR career, it's better to do it by yourself. I hate relying on other people. If they were to get sick during a presentation or decide to be a scumbag and sleep in, my grade will be affected! TICKS ME OFF! D:

I taken up Business Administration. This semester we have to do a thesis and a research paper. It's a group project :)

1. It depends upon my group mates because sometimes i did the whole thing and some of the members didn't participate and i think it's unfair to those who made an effort.
2. Yeah, because the other members will suggest some idea and the other members don't agree with it. And we gotten into a fight. LOL..

I feel group assignments are only tough when you depend on the other guy.
individual assignments on the other hand only for personal growth through both failure and success.

When I am in a group and if the teacher chose me to be the leader,I actually tell them to finish the target within a given time.I guess we have to put some pressure on the people in a group at such circumstances without being rude. Just lay down the time and the date of the target and just ask them to put a reminder or something if you wont be able to remind them yourself.

I hate group assignments. I prefer controlling the way projects go, and half the time I have to pick up the slack for someone who waited the night before something was due.

I HATE GROUP WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol

In my college english class we just had to do a group research paper. It completely stressed me out; group work always stresses me out.

One time when I was in junior high, we had to do a science project for an IPS class. We did it in partners, and I ended doing the entire thing myself. My partner didn't help me at all. This happens to people all too often...

Luckily my group members for the group research paper we just did were very cooperative, but I still prefer working individually. That way I don't have to worry about anyone else's work affecting my grade.

Also, it just comes down to the fact that i'm not a people person lol.

My son did not do well when he had his research paper by group. They were all very cooperative and they split up the work but apparently they were not to do that and since they all had different schedules and lived in different communities they thought this the best method. Well, they turned in their work on time. They were the only ones to do it on time. So, prof stretched it out for one more week then docked them one grade level for splitting up work. (REALLY). Yet no atta boy for getting in on time. Oh well, just get through it.

That's ridiculous... I've had some lousy professors too...

But yeah that's pretty much what we did. We each did a section of the paper. I don't think we're going to get a good grade, because doing different sections of the paper makes the paper broad and out of focus. A group paper is actually a very dumb idea imo...

Fortunately we each had to do an individual research paper too, and that's worth more points. I feel like I did good on that one, so that'll pull my grade up. But yep, all you can really do is just get through it. That's exactly what my mom said. ;)

I'm with you, I really don't want someone else's effort as my grade. I know when I went to college I was trying for A's. But when your in a group you have to rely on others. My money, my schooling, my grade.:)

I only have one semester left until I graduate. Then, it's real people world and possibly master's degree levels.
