Some rap music. It depends on the message, not the beats.

Exactly, what Tintin said, it depends on the lyrical content.

Yep. Lyrics not beat.
There is plenty of Christian rap available. Just dig around the Music forum.

Hip hop music is wicked. It is of the world.

Just like rock n' roll music is of the world. They cannot be Christianized.

That stance of yours is decidedly Gnostic in nature and Gnosticism isn't godly.

I agree with chosenbyhim because it fits the Scripture: 1John 2:15-16

@biscuit & Chosenbyhim we can make scripture say anything we want it to say out of context. Scripture says no such thing. Contrary to that statement it says that God takes the foolish things to confound the wise. If we need to be so holier than thou in our approach as to say what is wicked and what is not. The word clearly tells us what wicked is and applying lyrical content to a rhythmic beat is not wicked what type of music do you listen to? Ohh that's wicked! See how foolish that sounds then I guess scripture wins again because you must be confounded! Or so much wiser than everyone else!

@pastac we read the Scriptures because we believe in God's laws, statues & commandments. And we follow them because He demand us to. You have free will and can do what the heck you wish with your life. Some of us are more devoted Christians & would rather worship God's ways rather than the secular world. No one is stopping you ... and I certainly won't. The Word and not words tell us what is wicked.

Some of us are more devoted than others! Wow kinda like a Pharisee in thought don't you think? Or maybe you think more highly of yourself than ye ought! I read the scriptures I'm devout I'm focused on Chris, I love Jesus I live a lifestyle of salvation and prayer, I fast, I pay tithes, I interact with the body as a Pastor, I teach, I train up my children, I love my wife, I have a personal relationship with Christ, music has been used throughout the Bible from the time we first see its introduction in scripture. Anything can be perverted and called secular or worldly by your standards.

I know I have a free will and you do Too! You are free to believe that rap music, country music, jazz, hip hop, blues or whatever type of music you listen to is a better music than the rest of us un devoted lowly Christians, newsflash and update for biscuit any music can be used to glorify God its all in the content of the words in conjunction with the music.

Some of the most beautiful words outside of reading the bible have been placed to music rap included! Even with that stance you deny the majesty and awesome power of God. My word tells me still he takes the foolish things to confound the wise! Just a thought

Come now brothers/sisters, we're here to help each other, not rip each other limb from limb. Haha..

I think on Romans 12:2 for situations such as this.

"And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."

We, as Christians, ought to preserve ourselves for what God has for us. We should devote ourselves to shaping our own lives around His will for each of us.

As far as music goes, I know one kind of music that is pure and holy, and that's old fashioned gospel singing. Contemporary Christian albums tend to have, well, conformed to how the world's songs sound. Sure the message in the lyrics might be good. (Amen for good lyrics!) But as Christians shouldn't we be uplifting music that conforms NOT unto the world?

Ephesians 5:11* tells us to reprove the "unfruitful works of darkness," so ought we not to keep ourselves to that which is holy?

And let me end with, none of us are perfect. I know I'm WAYYY far from perfect, but we all do need to know what's right for us as Christians.

Hope I did help.

Your friend,
Moose.

*Ephesians 5:11
"And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them ."

@moose then you have to stop driving get off your key board quit this thread put down your cell phone! You're conforming to the world! Asinine right that is how foolish the thought of a Holy God not being able to transform music to be received for his Glory. I think we are all in agreement that some music is extreme but that is with anything in this world.

We must find that balance that keeps us connected to our Lord. The bible teaches that a false balance is an abomination. So many believers operate under a false balance forgetting they live in the real world too! We cant allow foolishness to continue to thrive and not address it as foolishness that turns Gods truth into a lie to do so. A fool is he who says there is no God. If we believe God can do all things we certainly believe he can use any type music to reach unsaved people.

The music is not really for God but unto God proclaiming his sovereignty and power to save mankind form our own natural inclination to self destruct. I hope you see that when you make it about music you take the focus off God. My God raps to me all the time. Most people don't even know what rap is they assume they know or ascribe their natural world definition.

But rap means much more look it up. We all need God to rap to us from time to time and to say he will not is just not accurate, Just some thoughts.

Please show scripture to prove this. If not then you don't 'know' this to be true, you only have this opinion.

I find it amazing that Christ was on the earth 2000 years ago, yet it's only been in modern times that 'true' Christian music has come into existence. So for roughly 2000 years no Christian music existed. This silly thought process is obviously not one that has been thought through completely. Yet pointing this out will not slow the misapplication of scripture and pressing forth with opinions as facts, no matter how ridiculous you prove the claim to be.

I have to agree God can use any means necessary to reach unbelievers. Including music because I do not see anything wrong with any type of music as long as the message is right. It all comes down to peoples opinions on what music they like. Its wrong for us to judge some one else period. Its up to God and maybe that's what this day in age needs is rap Christian music think about how God wants to bring unbelievers to him. Do you think he will use old time gospel music to bring in the new day and age lost generation. No God can move threw any type of music to maybe reach different audiences. I know my opinion old time gospel music didn't attract me to church but it was this new day and age Christian music that drew me in. To be more specific Third day was the first band I started to listen to. And in fact Christian rock makes my spirits rise toward God. It jumps start my soul I love it and it makes me want to sing and praise the Lord.

@Ugly your point is well taken. I do however want to point out your time line may need to be revisited. Music in several forms from heaven to earth have always been a part of the makeup of worship. Terminology as to the term Christian.

Acts 26:28 Agrippa replied to Paul, "In a short time you will persuade me to become a Christian."
1Pe 4:16 but if anyone suffers as a Christian, he is not to be ashamed, but is to glorify God in this name.
Acst 11:26 and when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. And for an entire year they met with the church and taught considerable numbers; and the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.

As to what music was called was called in heaven I can assure you it wasn't called good old fashioned gospel nor was it called true Christian music. I can safely bet it was called music. Just as Christian is a term used very sparsely in scriptures so I don't know what true Christian music is, nor good old fashioned gospel for that matter. I only know of music!!!
Just a thought.

Bro. You know exactly what songs you do and do not need in your life. If you really wanna get down to it, what rappers do you listen to? I have listened to rap all my life, but the majority I can deal without. Still there are those songs that grip, because they have a hold because the truth is the truth and love is love, plain and simple. I'm talking about "Hope" by Twista, featuring Faith Evans or "Dear Mama," or "Changes" by Tupac Shakur. You're a little bit younger so idk maybe you get down with something else. Message me if you don't wanna blast your favorite rap artists all over this board. But yo.

I don't see how at all that post was worldly conformed. >. <

All I gave was a scriptural reference.

And to Ugly, I only say that because if I flip over to (in my area) 105.9, the main music station for hip hop, rap, and all this, and flip back to the "Christian" station (90.7), then the Musical similarities are far to common in my OPINION. Yes I will say it's my opinion, but regardless, heed the Word my brethren.

I love you all and only want to an encouragement. Get in the Word and learn it. God will give you the many answers you need.

Your friend,
Moose.
