Semantics won't save you... but Jesus will.
Right, but do you not think getting people to recognize Jesus' benevolence, compassion, patience, kindness, forgiveness and understanding means actively cultivating those characteristics as part of your own personality, particularly in regards to conversations with atheists or agnostics?

I mean, if I walk down the street and hear a preacher saying 'all you evil sinners who don't follow the God of love or believe upon Jesus name and accept his free gift of salvation will burn for eternity unless you repent', I automatically find myself thinking:

1. Love and eternal torture seem to be pretty contradictory terms.
2. Is being loving, patient, kind and compassionate not part of following the teachings thereof? Is a threat compassionate?
3. Is fear of hell all that drives these people?
4. Do these people genuinely expect me to assimilate into their group after their threats?
5. What is 'believing upon Jesus name?'
6. Is all I have to do, to avoid an entire eternity of burning, profess 'Jesus is my saviour'? Doesn't that seem somewhat shallow?
7. If Jesus' personality is one most strikingly of love, self sacrifice and forgiveness, why does he not forgive those who don't ask for forgiveness? OR does he?
8. Isn't a free gift given by a person who has power over all things a gift that can be given regardless of whether it is accepted? Surely its acceptance is a moot point if the giver is Lord over even life and death itself, knowing things far beyond any normal human comprehension and having metaphysical powers incomprehensible to the average person's mind that allow him to do literally anything?

There are obviously lots more questions, but those are the ones that spring to mind.

They make fun of us way more than Christians make fun of them. They call us bigots and haters. It is quite hard to reason with them. Agnostics bother me too I count them the same as atheists. Either you believe in god or you do not.

That is because atheists have no real concept of God or Jesus, or heaven and hell. Yes, they may call us names such as bigots and haters, but if you really want to admit it, ALOT of so-called christians ARE bigots and haters of anything they dont understand. That is sad but it is true. Atheists have free will just like the rest of us. They have the right to believe or disbelieve what they want to. It is NOT our place to judge them for not believing in God, simply because WE do. We can only pray for them to have their hearts changed before it's too late.
