Maxwel,

I couldn't blame anyone if they have bad impression in Mindanao for what had happened before, but if it's not safe staying here I'm going to volunteer myself to fly to Mars. :p

Please don't fly to mars.
I've heard Mindanao is perfectly safe, but Mars can be quite dangerous.

bahahaha I still have to find that out if it's really dangerous or not especially now they are looking for some volunteers to fly to Mars. :p

But you being said that, you are very much welcome now in my beautiful place Mindanao and it is our great pleasure to introduce you to our lovely abu sayyaf in town. :D :p

But seriously, I would agree to avoid ARMM, though as what Dliz said her place is part of it but still it is safe, so we couldn't really tell, and for the past years I haven't heard any terrorism attack. Some places to avoid are Basilan, Sulu, Maguindanao these are their territories really but for the major cities in Mindanao like Davao, General Santos, Cagayan de Oro, you will be fine. :)

Manila is a crowded place (with people,buildings,houses,buss.establishments) ,but this is the center city of the Philippines so i guess you know how it looks like.Have no fear to come and visit the country we have nice places to see here depends on what you like to see if you come here.If you like the water you can go to Boracay in Aklan but that's way to far from Manila. Perhaps you can visit and see one of the views included in the 7 wonders of the World,tubataha reef in Palawan,you still have to travel by plane and the Rice Terraces of Baguio here you will travel by bus.I'm just near Manila a 15min drive from my place.Hope you would consider visiting us here.God Bless You!

I'm planning my first trip to the Philippines, sort of business mixed with vacation, and I have a lot of questions.

I've heard a lot about Manilla being horrid, and polluted, and even having high crime.
Is it really so bad?
I'd love to get some first hand info from people who actually live in the Philippines.

Thanks.
Manila is bad. But you can survive it if you're careful. Other places in Luzon are better but can have poor infrastructure or lack of goods you might need. Since you're a real "kano", expect a few marriage proposals if you're single :)

Notes by a foreigner living here.

@ my Filipino friends,
I think you'll have to teach me Tagalog so I'll know what you're talking about, lol.
(Or maybe it's best if I don't know.) :)

@ Tribesman,
I'm sure the Filipino girls are very nice, but I seldom have any time in my schedule for weddings while I'm traveling, lol.

Perhaps you can buy an English-Tagalog Dictionary :) I think that will come in handy.
but we can help you learn some Tagalog words...What do you want to learn?
here are some words...
"magandang umaga" = good morning
"magandang tanghali/hapon" = good afternoon
"magandang gabi" = good evening
"salamat" = thank you
"walang anuman" = welcome
"magkano" = how much
"pwedeng magtanong or pwede pong magtanong?" = can i ask you a question?
"saan" = where
"sino" = who
"ano" = what
"paano" = how

we'll try to help you ok, just write the words/sentences and we'll try to translate it for you...

Thank You for the compliment maxwell, yes we are nice, lol :D well, maybe most of us hahahaha,
and maybe you will get "proposals" but not all of us are like that ... :)
sometimes it's the other way around... :D
Again enjoy your trip/vacation ;)
God bless.

Im sorry i wont be able to help you with that,Maxwel. My tagalog isn't that good. Hahaha. Even if you try to learn tagalog you still wouldn't understand what we are talking because it's in Bisaya/Cebuano(another dialect in the philipines)

And oh expect people to stare/glare at you. (Common complaints of foreigners. Hahaha)

Uhhh... should I expect staring or glaring?
Stare = look
Glare = look angrily

I hope I won't get glaring. Geesh, if I want glaring I'll just get back with my ex-girlfriend.
: )

(BTW... in school I thought you had to learn a standardized version of Tagalog?)

I think it's only natural for people to stare at you because you are a foreigner! :) lol. it's either think of you as good looking or you have something in your face. hahaha!

Yes,we had Filipino subject since Nursery up to college but it's really hard for me because I don't use it in a regular basis.I can understand and speak tagalog but not that good. I prefer to speak in bisaya or english.
