WHAT SCRIPTURE SAYS ABOUT IT:

- For the Lord gives skillful and godly Wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding. Proverbs 2:6
= If any of you is deficient in wisdom, let him ask of the giving God [Who gives] to everyone liberally and ungrudgingly, without reproaching or faultfinding, and it will be given him. James 1: 5
- But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. James 3: 17
- For it is written, I will baffle and render useless and destroy the learning of the learned and the philosophy of the philosophers and the cleverness of the clever and the discernment of the discerning; I will frustrate and nullify [them] and bring [them] to nothing. 1 Corinthians 1: 19
- With the aged [you say] is wisdom, and with length of days comes understanding. But [only] with [God] are [perfect] wisdom and might; He [alone] has [true] counsel and understanding. Job 12: 12-13
- He who leans on, trusts in, and is confident of his own mind and heart is a [self-confident] fool, but he who walks in skillful and godly Wisdom shall be delivered. Proverbs 28: 26
- For this world's wisdom is foolishness (absurdity and stupidity) with God, for it is written, He lays hold of the wise in their [own] craftiness. 1 Corinthians 3:19

WHAT A VERY WISE GUY I KNOW HAD TO SAY ABOUT IT:

"Some people are educated beyond their capacity for understanding."

IN YOUR PURSUIT OF KNOWLEDGE, DO YOU ALSO SEEK GODLY WISDOM?

While I think it's sweet of you to call me your friend maxwel,I'd rather you not share my lack either W. or I. with the masses. I think they will figure this out all on their own.

Intelligence is having knowledge, and the ability to gain knowledge. Wisdom is knowing what to do with it. That comes with trials and errors, as well as experience and godly guidance. :)

The most glaring word distinguishing the two definitions is judgement, and I think it really does come down to that.

I teach a lot of really intelligent kiddos who choose to do really dumb things. You can be incredibly smart, but the CHOICES you make...the judgments you choose...that's what defines you as wise or foolish, really.

If I'm not intelligent, but have enough sense not to admit it, does that make me wise???

judgement has such a negative connotation, can we replace that with Discernment?

Sure. Typically, if one precedes judgment with the modifier "good" or "poor," then the confusion on what we mean by judgment (and the word's negative connotations) is avoided. But substituting the word discernment works just as easily.

For some reason, everyone is in this thread posting the most profound and astounding things.

I really feel like I need to jump in just to bring down the IQ average a bit.

It's my special gift.

Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit.

Wisdom is not putting one in a fruit salad.

knowledge means having the facts
intelligence means being able to extract additional facts from there and interpolate the facts for forecasting
wisdom is knowing how to be discrete with those findings, or broadcast them in a way that creates significance.
