Everytime I see 'Martin Freeman', 'Morgan Freeman' comes to mind for a split second, then I giggle at the thought of Morgan Freeman playing Bilbo Baggins XD
I do this too, which is weird since I knew of Martin Freeman from TV long before Sherlock and The Hobbit.

I don't know about LOTR's 'dark-ness,' but, I will say this, it doesn't get much darker than when Bilbo was trying to get out of the cave and was invisible and had his sword at the ready, and was able to kill Smegle if he had to in escaping the only route out that Smegle was blocking. Thankfully for the gollum, he decided that Bilbo was gone and got out of the way just enough so Bilbo could jump over him as Smegle wholly screamed that 'his precious' had escaped.

But, that was a dark scene, wasn't it, in The Hobbit ?

Or, what does one mean by 'dark.' I don't remember that much of the LOTR and truthfully never watched them in succession like aficionados did. I thought, 'Return of the King,' part III was very spectacular battle scene but I wouldn't call that 'dark' by any stretch of my imagination. Keep in mind, I have green brains and they often stretch beyond normal means. :D
