Just to clarify, Robertson's remarks against homosexuality seem to be the main reason A&E got ticked-off. They didn't directly address anything racial to my knowledge. This was their simple statement;

“We are extremely disappointed to have read Phil Robertson’s comments in GQ, which are based on his own personal beliefs and are not reflected in the series Duck Dynasty,”
A&E said in a statement, which was reported byThe Hollywood Reporter. “His personal views in no way reflect those of A+E Networks, who have always been strong supporters and champions of the LGBT community. The network has placed Phil under hiatus from filming indefinitely.”

Phil spoke truth, he said that gays will not inherit the Kingdom of God. This wasn't a remark of hatred, it's love that wants to warn people of what will keep them from entering the Kingdom of God.

What Phil SHOULD have said:

Romans 1:16) For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
17 .) For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
18 .) For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
19 .) Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
20 .) For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
21 .) Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22 .) Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
23 .) And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
24 .) Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
25 .) Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
26 .) For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
27 .) And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
28 .) And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
29 .) Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
30 .) Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31 .) Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
32 .) Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

(oh, no, wait..........that is what he was saying)

The left is all about realizing that the 1st amendment protects you from retaliation from the government and bodies that fall under governmental regulation, not from being fired from your job or being boycotted by people who find what you say offensive. Never, ever have serious Americans of left or right thought that free speech meant you can't get fired or boycotted or made fun of on the news or...

When the guy is arrested or otherwise penalized by the government, please then tell us how his free speech has been infringed.

Bad civics + persecution complex = nonsense.
I think you have a good point. Americans are protected by the first amendment, but Christians aren't guaranteed their ideas and beliefs will be welcomed (quite the opposite, if we read the Bible). No matter how hypocrite I find A&E (and the media) since I'm pretty sure they knew he had those opinions even before being hired, we really can't make a case for free-speech here. People have been fired for misrepresenting the company they work for before.

I kind of agreee with the ''persecution complex'' commentary..I think that as Christians we should be worried that our faith is not being well received, and at the same time we shouldn't competely freak out and call this ''persecution'' . I can't imagine Paul and the apostles boycotting a business because their show wasn't on TV. This is pretty much a first world problem, in my opinion.
We shouldn't ignore it though, and we do have the right to be shocked by the hipocrisy and manipulation of the media, but let's remember that this is just happening because the world doesn't receive the gospel. It was gonna happen someday, unless the hearts of our society had been transformed by grace. Our worry shouldn't be to be popular on TV, but to reach people's hearts.

Also, I do agree that Mr Robertson should've worded his thoughts about racial segregation differently. I don't know the man, didn't even watch the show, but I read the interview and it seemed like he was just stating what he saw, but in a rather naive and unwise way if you ask me. I don't think he meant to sound offensive though, or that he is racist, and the media obviously blew everything out of proportions.... but he should've clarified, especially with a touchy subject like that one. It's like me saying ''Yeah I lived in Nazi Germany times, but personally I never saw a Jew being mistreated or complaining about being mistreated'' <------sounds totally ignorant and foolish to say that knowing they general reality of that historical time.

Overall though, I appreciate Mr Robertson's honesty and boldness about his faith. I think he is a good, faithful man, and I pray good things come for his family.

What you need to keep in mind is the Article published is not the "totality" of the interview..........GQ "edited" the Article to read as they desired it to be read......so don't assume that Phil is "ignorant and/or foolish" based on how GQ edited the Article.

This whole thing is phony. An A&E representative was present during the interview and did nothing to nix duck guy's comments from being published.

It is phony... everything of TV is phony. IMHO, if Phil was legit he would have never made it to A&E. Just more button pushing by the NWO. They are trying their best to divide this country.

For reference, he's 67. He was born in 1946. He was 18 when the Civil Rights act of 1964 was passed and 19 when the Voting Rights Act of 1965 was passed.

Being in Louisiana, he could not have been more smack-dab in the middle of the Civil Rights era if he had taped himself to King Jr.
WOW...now that was funny hah!

Actually, he was a little bit west of the "smack-dab" middle of the Civil Rights era............just saying.....

that being said...........it proves nothing concerning Mr. Robertson. FOR REFERENCE: There are many here who profess to be in the "smack-dab" middle of Scripture, and reveal little if any understanding of Scripture........

Yeah it does. Mystdancer50 said:

I honestly don't think he is referring to the pre-civil rights movement, because the true time of slavery was brought to an end during the Civil War, and I don't think he was alive then. :) I am pretty sure the times he is referring to post civil rights. I wouldn't know for sure...I plan to look at the full interview later tonight, but I'm just saying. :)
He was referring to the Civil Rights era, before and after, and I demonstrated that by showing that in terms of time/place, he was certainly alive then and there and these are the times he was talking about.

Does it prove anything else? Of course not. But it proves this one thing, which was my point.

I wonder if I could more plainly state that questions about the 1st Amendment are not pertinent here?

He was fired, not jailed. He was not prevented from free assembly. He's not a member of the press.

He got removed from a job by the boss, not by Congress.

The 1st Amendment is as pertinent as the 75th (and yes, I know).
seriously? What is known is that you are surely not a Constitutional Scholar...........the 1st Amendment, freedom of speech certainly applies in that Phil Robertson has the Constitutional right to express his personal views/beliefs.

The SCOTUS has always held that the 1st Amendment applies to the Private Sector as well as the Public Square. Case law is full of such rulings....considering pornography, art, literature, billboards, etc...No one is arguing that he has a Constitutional right to be on a TV Program, but that he has a Constitutional right to publicly state his beliefs. That is FULLY protected under the 1st Amendment.

Now, that isn't the "focal point" of the whole mess, the focal point is the Word of God. Robertson quoted/paraphrased Scripture from the Bible, and was demonized as a "bigot," a "racist," and other demeaning things for publicly speaking the Word of God. All that can be determined from these attacks is that The Word of God has been deemed "hate speech."
