I was pondering the word.....atheist.......I wonder if it originally meant a theist and was combined into one word.

A theist would be one who believes in? A higher power, but not God?

What does a theist believe...can any atheist explain this? If it has any merit.
Not A theist, yet it is A theist is being God of themselves, as Christ said to those religous leaders in his day, have you mnot read, you are Gods
See this is what Adam and Eve became and were put out to till the Garden to show them there need and latter came the Law to even show the need for the creator even deeper
Theist is God and to be a Theist is to choose to be God and stay in what one is originally born in, that being the flesh and not born in the Spirit as is waht Christ came to do, was to give us life in the Spirit as in John 3
Just thought I would say what I see

No I absolutely don't believe there's a supreme being And I serve no god whatsoever. What is so difficult to understand.

And what Cycel touched on earlier is very Important. If the bible was inspired by an all knowing all seeing all powerful all encompassing being, why does it takes years and years of study to gras

Yet when you realise it was written by primitive farmers who's most advanced machinery was a wheelbarrow and

written with no knowledge of the universe then it's easily understood in seconds.
why did you not sign up in another forum and decided to join Christians? Or you are looking for followers? Your father the devil is a LIAR!!

My father is the devil? Wow the people on here are just getting crazier and crazier. I think it's time I left here now at least on semi amicable terms. After speaking to people who said they would probably rape and murder without god and now people saying satan is my father. I think some of you need serious psychological help. I bid you farewell.

The ideology of atheists is similar to be ideology of satanists in fact they directly worship Satan for his biggest deception was to have everyone believe that the creator of all living things does not exist. Evolution was created to discredit the creator which is a total disrespect to the father because we were all created to serve him and that Satan who rebelled against him wants everyone else to rebel by which he create a system and crises to try to prove that the Most High does not against or very evil because a majority of people only perceive the father as an all loving God. In fact, the Most high has the same characteristics as man, since man is created in his image, however he is PERFECT in his ways. He is also a God of war and wrath against the evil, he is merciful, enduring, forgiving, jealous when we choose to credit a nonliving god or man over the one who created all, and so because many do not know who really God is all about, Satan causes crises to causes people to lose faith and not believe because they do not understand the Father's ultimate purpose.
And all that started with doubt, Eve had doubt and then was drawn to, having doubt and ate from thus was and all man is as well first born after them in the flesh, and in need of being born in the Spirit where there is no doubt and are free in the truth to love all as God does loved all, yet m,any a man has overturned that in doubt as if God is a tyrant and not righteous, when God is the only one righteous in all God decides to do or not do.
I know which side I want to be on and am by Faith in God, being given the gift of life in the Spirit. and am ready when the _________________ hits the fan. The day is coming

With over 7 billion people in the world how does Satan find it possible to interact with more than a small number of people each year? Have you ever stopped to consider the logistics? Children, for example, have no troubling imagining that Santa can visit all the children of the world in a single night, and many Believers it seems imagine something similar for Satan? Simona, how do you explain this?
The Devil doesn't have to, born of the flesh is born of the flesh and this wants control from birth on here on earth and is in need to be born of the Spirit of God, in olrder to be set free from worry and stress, trusting god to see you through, so I whistle while I work.
Born of the flesh is born of the flesh and Born of the Spirit of God is born of the Spirit of God and is a free gift from God through his Son Christ who went to the death at the cross for us to have new life in the resurrected Christ in Spirit in order to love all the same, no respect of persons seeing all the same, no condemnation from me anyway to anyone since God gave me Mercy and wrote off my debt, how can I go out and not give Mercy
This is what has gotten covered over very well as if God is not loving or Merciful, When God is right from the gate with Adam and Eve he clothed them, they did not die immediately.
And then he gave us his Son, and his Son went to the death for us to gain new life in the Spirit of God, trustinmg God to see us through no matter what goers on here in this life here and now

This can be true at times but not all professing atheists are the same and not all professing Christians are the same. In fact, the professing Christians have far too little agreement currently. If the professing Christians would love God more and walk more in the power of the Holy Spirit (and less in fleshly vanities and corruptions), then they would become more like the God they profess to believe in and more like each as they walk in love and unity.

Prayer: May there be a flourishing of Christian love for God, for unbelieving neighbors and for each other.
Maybe become partakers in place of professors?

Says you. I say that rape and murder are beneficial to my happiness and well being, and to societies' as well. Are you so arrogant to suggest that you're moral code is superior to mine? What give you the authority to make such a declaration?

Do you see what I'm getting at here?
Not sure you know what you just said, yet if you know then so be it on you, to know

HQ, how exactly are rape and murder BENEFICIAL to anyones happiness and well-being? That statement does not even make any type of sense at all. And how does rape and murder benefit society? I'm sorry, no offense but your logic is a little twisted on that topic!! Talk to someone who has been raped, or had a loved one murdered. Maybe you'll have a different viewpoint afterward.
When I read his comment I rememberd this animal that likes to kill:

And God be with you loving you all the way through as that is what changed me, God loving me , not man, when I knew what I deserve and still deserve and that be death, since I have not loved my neighbor in the past as myself, then it went further as God has and does love us all. In response to this from God the creator of all I love all in response to God loving us all through Son Christ
Love to all

It's called making a point by taking the opposing viewpoint and showing it's absurdity. It's a common literary technique that I'm sure you'll one day understand.

IntoTheVoid said:
I thought satanism was the worship of satan.. And to worship satan would by default believe that god exists.

I do neither.
Which makes you A Theist, God of yourself right?
I don't understand your response Homewardbound. In my mind what you have said is nonsensical. Clearly neither myself nor Void see ourselves as theists, so saying Void is a theist is just an attempt to be what -- annoying? You obviously know he is not a theist. You, yourself, are a theist and I hardly think you want to lump yourself with us atheists. We are not all theists and atheists least of all fit that description.

The "God of yourself" comment, that you made, I quite routinely hear from a small pocket of Christians. Clearly Void nor myself are gods, and obviously we do not see ourselves as gods, so I am thinking you are offering this comment up as some sort of insult? You don't appear to be attempting to win any sort of argument with the remark. Void and myself submit to societies rules, as you do yourself. So whatever comment you wish to make about us following our own rules just doesn’t wash.

Your thoughts?

When you pick and choose what is right and what is wrong using your OWN morality, you in essence make yourself god, by in effect saying "if I were god this would be right and this would be wrong"

there is such a thing as an atheist, i have some in my family. they don't always know they are facing death so they don't have time to change their minds. their funerals will tell you this as they don't sing any hymns they just play music, and they don't say as much as a prayer.

Regretfully, I cannot say that I have ever been to Europe. Both of my grandfathers were born there and grew up there.

Lately, I have been reading sermons from Martin Lloyd-Jones in 1959 where he talks about the state of the church in Great Britain at that time. My analysis is that the church in Europe has been in severe need of stronger Christian leadership for my entire lifetime. North American churches have their own needs now. Needs for healthy churches in Great Britain / UK seem much greater and seem to have been there for much longer.

Over the birthplace of little Lord Jesus Christ in Bethlehem, there was a multitude of the heavenly angelic hosts who visited shepherds in the fields. This angel army was praising God and saying: "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men" (Luke 2:13-14).

Demonic ranks of principalities and powers (Colossians 2:15) also exist. There are more than a few demons around. Satan is just one of them and limited to one place at a time.

Angels and demons make appearances throughout the Bible from the Garden of Eden to Abraham and Sarah and Hagar and Jacob to Moses and Elijah and Jesus and more. Science hasn't yet detected angels and demons. Angels and demons live in another dimension. These aliens are much closer than Mars. I haven't knowingly seen them either but I believe that they are there.

I have no knowledge of what you might be referencing here. Perhaps you could point to something that might give me a clue?
Sorry. I could have been clearer. My point is along these lines:

If some evidence points toward rapid deposition of water-borne sediments in Grand Canyon Arizona USA and other evidence points toward slow deposition, then the rapid deposition arguments get less attention from conventional scientists because they might support concepts of Noah and a global flood.

If some evidence points toward a sediment dam breaking and rapid erosion of sediments in Grand Canyon Arizona USA and other evidence points toward slow, uniformitarian erosion over a long period of time, then the attention of conventional science steers naturally away from the conclusion of the catastrophic event in favor of the non-catastrophic event taking long ages of time.
