If a Christian commutes suicide, would they still go to heaven or would they go to hell? I've often wondered this, but was too scared to ask anyone I know cause they'd freak out if I was talking about suicide and such. But I figured here, it would be easier to ask. So.. That's basically all. Some people say yes, some say no.. I'd really kinda like to know...

There is no where in the Bible where it specifically mentions the word suicide however in 1Corinthians 3-16,17 says "Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you? If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him. For God's temple is holy, and you are that temple" If one commits suicide you are pretty much destroying your body and if you do that verse 17 says God will destroy you. Reading that I would say it is safe to say that it is not something anyone should do.

Re: If a Christian commits suicide, what then?
I'm here to just correct you, not trying to be mean, that bible verse is talking about Sexual immorality, just a few verses later it says that, it also says in the bible that we are forgiven for past, present and future sins (sorry I'm two weeks late.) but say if your driving down the road, you lie and you get in a car wreck a minute later and you die, you didn't have a chance to ask for forgiveness. The bible says there is no sin that is greater then the other. So, I believe it's a sin, but I also believe that you will still go to heaven if you are truly saved, I believe that you can't get "un-saved" the bible says NOTHING can separate us from God.

THANK YOU for noting context. It's a relief to see some Christian do that, instead of cherry-picking all the time. No offense to the person who posted the verse, I just wish Christians would be more careful of how they use the Sword - it can do damage, when used incorrectly, just as someone can cut themselves with a sword. But I do respect all interpretations (ones that don't justify wrong-doing to others), just that some are stronger than others.

Have a read of this: If a Christian commits suicide, is he/she still saved?

To sum it up, if you die saved then nothing can stop your salvation, thus Christians who suicide do not go to hell since we are saved by faith, not actions (John 3:16, 1 John 5:13, Romans 8:38-39). However, suicide should never ever be the answer.

I, for one, TOTALLY agree with you! :) Once someone has truly repented and asked God into their hearts and lives, they can never, NEVER be "unsaved." It's like adoption; when a person adopts a kid, the kid can NEVER be "unadopted." EVER! NO matter what they do, they are ALWAYS a part of the family that adopted them. God adopted you when you asked Him for forgiveness of your sins and into your life. You will ALWAYS be His. :)

Don't be fools and judge a person that has passed. It is not our place to do such a thing.

Time and again we are told that it is God's place to judge the dead.

Only a wicked person would try to usurp God and judge a dead person.

If the Scripture says certain things of those who have passed and we repeat those verses, who has judged the dead? God, whose Scripture this is, or us who simply pass it on as instructed? If it is us then it would be sin to even tell people that they will not be saved if they do not accept Christ. There is a difference between me and you judging people and me and you passing on what GOD says of people.

As Christians, we work for God. If you commit suicide, was that for God or for you? You're only thinking of how tough your life is and what can you do to get out it. Jesus not only took beatings for you but for everyone else. Everyone should have the chance to hear the gospel. But if you kill yourself, God can't use you to bring that person to Him. And as Christians, aren't we suppose to submit to God? aren't we suppose to preach the gospel? We have a job and getting out of it, isn't right. So yes I believe it sends the person to hell. It's an act of taking a life that God rightfully owns. Plus selfishness is a sin.

The Bible is a joke to you, is it? Because everything I said is based on Scripture. The Bible doesn't speak specifically about suicide, but it does say this:

"Neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord" ~ Romans 8:39.

I'm not saying that suicide is not a sin, because I wholeheartedly believe it is a sin, but if one is redeemed through their faith in Christ, nothing can 'un-save' us unless that person gives up their faith.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but please use Scripture.

Fist of all you need to understand that suicide can be caused by anger or a chemical imbalance, injury or illness which can cause the brain not to function . Medicines that you probably have seen advertised on television telling you of the risk of suicidal tendencies that can be brought on by some medications. Brain tumors can cause people to commit suicide. So understand as a Christian you could be subjected to one o

Fist of all you need to understand that suicide can be caused by anger or a chemical imbalance, injury or illness which can cause the brain not to function properly. Medicines that you probably have seen advertised on television telling you of the risk of suicidal tendencies that can be brought on by some medications. Brain tumors can cause people to commit suicide. So understand as a Christian you could be subjected to one of these problems. God knows your heart and knows if you are one of his, so no need to worry about if something happens like taking meds that cause you to do something that you never would of done if you hadn't taken it. If you in anger take your life this would be something that God would only know as I can't read your mind, but he can. Anger without shame or willing to forgive the person who made you angry or anger from what you have done has caused you to be ashamed of what you did would again be something God would know. As a Christian keep your heart in God always and stay away from things and people that would bring you down, which you should already know. Alcohol is a no no for sure. The bible doesn't take in consideration of meds and injury and or illnesses that could cause you to do something that you normally wouldn't do. Always seek help and tell people that you trust that would help you if you feel unusual so you can get help immediately. Suicide doesn't cure the problem, it only compounds it, so again, communicate always on how your feeling. Can a Christian go to heaven if they kill themselves, yes if it's caused by something that has altered you to do something you wouldn't normally do, and no one in their right mind kills themselves. People have killed themselves because they hate God so much that they blame him for their misfortunes. So keep your life Christ like and communicate your feelings and your life will be great.

I believe that hell and heaven are not just "places" where you go after you die. I believe they are also states of our soul. Our souls can pre-taste heaven or hell from this life on earth. In most cases, people want to stop the pain they feel and usually the person that commits suicide is a person that has lost her/his faith and hope in God and in him/herself. The tragedy of suicide is that, instead of stopping the pain, it can render it eternal. And I believe it does.

Why do you think the bible constantly warns us, and why do you think the devil never stops tempting us if we can't lose our soul? There were some teachers in Ephesus by the names of Hymenaeus and Philetus who departed from the truth and overthrew the faith of some saying that the resurrection had past already. (II Timothy 2:17-18.) In II Timothy 4:10 Paul said, "Demas has forsaken me, having loved this present world." You cannot depart from where you have never been.
Notice that Demas loved this present world. We are warned in 1 John 2:15-17 not to love the world.
“Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world -- the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life is not of the Father but of the world and the world passes away and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.”

John was writing to Christians.
Can a child of God lose his love for God and fall in love with the world? These scriptures prove that he can. Demas did. Christians have done it in the past and are doing it now and will do it in the future. Peter points out the condition of those who depart from God. “For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning. For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them. But it has happened to them according to the true Proverb: 'A dog returns to his own vomit' and 'A sow having washed to her wallowing in the mire.'” (II Peter 2:20-22)

If a christian commits suicide then they die, no different than if they died some other way. Dead is dead.
A christian destiny of heaven or hell is predicated on belief in Jesus and repentance , more so on the grace of God and His forgiveness. These things have no bearing on how someone dies so your whole dilemma is a moot point.

not unless, your first assumption was wrong. If we listen to ALL the Bible, we must conclude, a person does not lost something, salvation, if they never had it. A person can look good for a while, but not be saved. The Bible teaches this. God knows who is His, We don't. Hoffco
