"But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation." - Mark 3:29

I've been told it's when you don't accept Jesus Christ before death. But is that really what blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is? Are there scriptures that reference to this unforgivable act?

Something that I have always wondered... :/

INB4 500 different answers. :D

I know this, Joyful. Jesus was talking to men who were saying He was demonic. So I think it had to do with people who saw the undeniable power of The Holy Spirit in person, and mocked anyway.

Those who are sealed by God but still deny the Holy Spirit, that is unforgivable.

There is no such thing as an unpardonable sin. That is a connotation given to that passage because it mentions that blasphemy against the Spirit can not be forgiven. Satan can not be forgiven because there is no provision of redemption offered to him by God. Satan is the wicked or 'evil' one who was rejected by God for his iniquity (imaginations, thoughts and deeds apart from God). This iniquity was found and originated in him. He is the god of this present evil world and rules as the prince and power of the air through this iniquity. When an individual or group conspire against the work of the Holy Spirit in an individual or local church and deems that work as demonic or unclean, they are committing blasphemy against the Spirit and are in danger of damnation.

This is not some sin that can be forgiven but is an evil conspiracy against the work of the Holy Spirit. Those involved with this conspiracy must be delivered from this evil that has overtaken their mind and heart with active labors. When this kind of evil takes over the soul, every thought and imagination is against any and every work that God accomplishes through the Spirit. The blasphemy against the Son is rooted in the sin of unbelief that rejects Christ as the Messiah or Savior of mankind and that can be forgiven but blasphemy in the form of slander that indicts the holiness of God as unclean in never forgiven. Jesus shed his blood as the Lamb of God for sin and not for evil or blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. Those involved in this kind of evil are easily discerned by those who have the Spirit and unless those who commit such things are delivered they are surely in danger of hell fire.

Matthew 12:30) He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.
31 .) Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.
32 .) And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.

Jesus was not speaking in parables here, nor was He being evasive..........His statement here is direct and clear! There IS an unpardonable sin! To say otherwise is to call Jesus a liar......but, now, that is just me I suppose.

People may argue as to what Blaspheme of the Holy Ghost is, but all one has to do is apply a bit of common sense to have an elementary understanding of this statement from Jesus.........

blasphemy:
dictionary.search.yahoo.com
n. noun

  • A contemptuous or profane act, utterance, or writing concerning God or a sacred entity.
  • The act of claiming for oneself the attributes and rights of God.
  • An irreverent or impious act, attitude, or utterance in regard to something considered inviolable or sacrosanct.

If such as this is uttered against the Holy Ghost, IT WILL NOT BE FORGIVEN, NEITHER IN THIS WORLD, NEITHER IN THE WORLD TO COME................Why do I say this? BECAUSE JESUS DID!

To understand what Jesus is referring to we must understand the nature of evil verses the sin nature in man that produces sins. There are two kinds of evil, (kakos) evil which is intrinsic evil that abides in the heart of man connected with the sin nature in man even when he does good as in (Romans 7:21). The second kind is (poneros) which is an evil that is full of labors and has its reference and source in the devil as the wicked one in (Matt 6:13). When a person or group is involved with this kind of evil from the evil one, that comes from without and infects the evil (kakos) within, this evil God must deliver them from less they be in danger of hell fire (not the believer but the unbeliever). It is not forgivable because it came from the evil one as a source and resulted in many active labors to slander the work of the Spirit as unclean. Peter came very close to this when he rebuked the Lord in (Matt 16:23). Aninias and Sapphire also came very close to this when Satan conceived a lie in their heart against the Holy Spirit and were struck dead in (Acts 5). Peter was delivered from this when the Lord prayed for him that his faith fail not (Luke 22:31,32) and the couple in (Acts 5) were delivered through death less they continue in this strategy of the devil to slander the work of the Holy Spirit in the church.

I've pondered the topic of this thread myself and I would like to ask you. Is simply saying a word against the Holy Ghost blasphemy if uttered in ignorance? Say for example a child was instructed to do so that didn't know any better, and the young person said it.

Or would it be saying words against the Holy Ghost.....when the person saying it is completely and undeniably aware of the divinity of the Holy Ghost?

Obviously, the second would be considered blasphemy, but would the first be considered that way as well?

Yeshua says: If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be[SUP] [/SUP]in you.

And it is written: be holy, for I am holy.

And it's also written: Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.

And it's also promised: If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

My deduction is, any time we realize we've sinned, we should confess immediately. The more we let sin dwells the less we please the Holy Spirit and before we knew it He's gone. The OT Israelites were our example.
The unforgivable sin is the hardening of the heart.

Mark 3:22, And the scribes which came down from Jerusalem said, He hath Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casteth he out devils.

28-30 Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme:
But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation:
Because they said, He hath an unclean spirit.''

**********†*******†********†*********

Those scribes came 'that close' to calling the Holy Spirit a demon when they said ''He cast out demons by the Prince of demons.'

In short, IMHO, it is calling the Holy Spirit a demon, I think these scribes came one small step short of that.

Concerning slanderous accusations or blaspheming the Holy Spirit or attributing the work of the Spirit as unclean or that casting out demons is devilish, Jesus did not say it was sin for those who make such an accusation, He said it was unforgivable. AGAIN!!!! Jesus did not say it was sin, He said it was unforgivable. We have for some reason determined that Jesus was talking about sin because he used the word 'unforgivable', but He never uses the word sin in any of the gospels on this subject. He is talking about evil because of what (Mt 12) teaches. Read (Mt 12 ALL THE WAY THROUGH) and see what the context is concerned with and what he is speaking about concerning the kingdom, Satan, evil and the various forms of blasphemy.

After reading through, you should conclude that anything that the Spirit does through Jesus Christ (including any application we have in the church for which He is the head) if it is considered, implied or attributed to be of the work of the devil or some act of an unclean spirit, that it is blasphemy against the Spirit which involves Satan, his kingdom and the evil associated with who he is as he tries to prevail not only against Christ and the church, but also the work of the Holy Spirit who lives and dwells within the members of the church. This is not some shallow truth Jesus is speaking to that we can say whatever we want about it. It has to do with evil (not sin) that comes from the wicked one and it can not be forgiven in this life or the next life to come.

Unforgivable sin is not a proper defination (of what you really mean).

We have been made after likeness of Jesus. Though He was not Adam (first man), but we have been made after His likeness - Cause whole the story (including incarnation of God into human flesh) existed as eternal purpose of Creation.

For us (humans) even the process of knowledge itself is available only through Jesus. No matter trust we in Him or ever heard about Him, we can learn and understand only due to our likeness to Him.

The proccess of repetance is a mystery in which our human sinful soul also directly communicate with God through the only Door and Mediator Jesus (after Whose likeness we have been created).

Actually whatsoever sin could be forgiven = if Juda Iskariot instead of hanging himself were been cried for true repentance even his terrible sin woul been forgiven.

But God (God Father) did not wish him to repent such a sin. So his personal providence (Divine care about the certain human being) has not preserved Juda from suicid.

Well, so you, JoyfulFleur, have to understand a pair of the points:
1) Whatever sin could be forgiven.
2) But sometimes God does not like certain human to come to confession of his sin and getting forgivance.

Prodigal son had denied from Jesus and Christianity (so was dead) still finally he will be martyr dressed in the bloody garment, wearing the ring of highest power and the shoes of witnessing. Kyprian from Antiohia was been mightiest sorserer and was turned by repentance into bishop and holy martyr).
2) Bu sometimes God does not like certain human to come to confession of his sin and getting forgivance.

The Pharisees believed that Jesus was evil and demonic and cast out demons by Beelzebub. They did not just say it, but they believed and adhered to that. That was (poneros) evil on their part and not sin. They slandered at an evil thing the work of the Holy Spirit in casting out devils and that was (poneros) evil for they attributed the work of the Holy Spirit as an evil thing. Jesus did not die and shed his blood for this kind of evil blasphemy against the Spirit, He shed his blood for the sin of man and not for the evil of the wicked one that took over the mind and heart of the Pharisees. Therefore it was Jesus prayer in teaching his disciples to pray that the Father would deliver them from (poneros) evil, the evil one who has the power to influence the heart and soul of the unregenerate with a stronghold of iniquity that would slander the Holy Spirit by calling it unclean.

It states very clear unto any man in this world or the next jesus said what makes a person unclean is not what goes in but what comes out , there is a choice chose deathor choose life a human is held responsible still but some have done this so they argue to justify themselves but in the end God has the official record and sentence awaiting them to eternal punishment

The Matthew 12 instance is not something that believers in the Lord Jesus do. So we don't need to keep worrying in case somehow we have committed the unpardonable sin.

This question has been asked before on these threads. Believing what is Holy to be unholy is the unpardonable sin, because God can not deny himself.
