I'm not sure I understand the last question

"What makes it wrong of it is"

Maybe you should eat Doritos and sleep it off and try again.

God would not want us to abuse our bodies and smoking causes cancer, emphysema, and asthma.

Eating Doritos may be wrong too except for nacho cheese flavored variety. I am surmising that guy had the ranch flavor as he seems befuddled. Is that a word?

"Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, [SUP]20 [/SUP]for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body." 1 Cor. 6:19-20

Tobacco has over 5000 chemicals in it. 54 of those are known carcinogens. That means they are known to cause cancer. Nicotine addiction is the hardest to break of all addictions. People who were heroin addicts will testify that it is harder to get off cigarettes and break the nicotine addiction than heroin.

Second hand smoke, means that because of someone's addiction, I am forced to breathe all those poisons. I am deathly allergic to second hand tobacco smoke, even outside. I have been to the ER many times, because someone lit up a cigarette next to me on the street. Almost 10% of the population is allergic to tobacco, so that means that addicts are dictating who has the right to breath and where. They are causing small children to have their lives threatened, as they are the most sensitive to second hand smoke.

Finally, tobacco turns the lungs into a black coal like colour. They become brittle and hard. They get sick with cancer and other diseases. Tobacco smoke also contributes to all kinds of other cancer in the body.

[h=3]How Is Smoking Related to Cancer?[/h]
Smoking can cause cancer and then block your body from fighting it:[SUP]4[/SUP]
  • Poisons in cigarette smoke can weaken the body’s immune system, making it harder to kill cancer cells. When this happens, cancer cells keep growing without being stopped.
  • Poisons in tobacco smoke can damage or change a cell's DNA. DNA is the cell's "instruction manual" that controls a cell's normal growth and function. When DNA is damaged, a cell can begin growing out of control and create a cancer tumor.
Doctors have known for years that smoking causes most lung cancer. It's still true today, when nearly 9 out of 10 lung cancers are caused by smoking cigarettes. In fact, smokers have a greater risk for lung cancer today than they did in 1964, even though they smoke fewer cigarettes. One reason may be changes in how cigarettes are made and what they contain.[SUP]5[/SUP]Treatments are getting better for lung cancer, but it still kills more men and women than any other type of cancer. More than 7,300 nonsmokers die each year from lung cancer caused by secondhand smoke.[SUP]6[/SUP]Smoking can cause cancer almost anywhere in your body, including the:[SUP]5[/SUP]
  • Mouth, nose, and throat
  • Larynx
  • Trachea
  • Esophagus
  • Lungs
  • Stomach
  • Pancreas
  • Liver
  • Kidneys and ureters
  • Bladder
  • Colon and rectum
  • Cervix
  • Bone marrow and blood (leukemia)
Women smokers with breast cancer and men with prostate cancer who smoke may be more likely to die from these diseases than nonsmokers.[SUP]5[/SUP]Smokeless tobacco also causes cancer, including cancers of the:[SUP]7[/SUP]
  • Esophagus
  • Mouth and throat
  • Pancreas

Here is a short link on what a healthy lung, versus a smoker's lung looks like:

So going back to my opening Bible verse - if we are the temple of the Holy Spirit, should we not be taking care of our body? We should stay away from addictive substances which poison our body. We need to honour God in our bodies.

So yes, smoking is a sin, and it is wrong. It is against God's laws to poison yourself and the people around you. Ask God to help you break this terrible habit, and I know he will help you. I have never smoked, but my husband did. When he came to Christ, he totally gave it up, in one day! Praying you make the step of understanding how bad and wrong smoking is and that you are able to quit.

It's neither hear nor there when it comes to the faith...but when it comes to your health ...
well, as they say 'cancer cures smoking'.

I wonder if living in the smog is a sin?

Listen!
My paternal grandfather smoked. He had smoked cigarettes, cigars, and the pipe. He died of emphysema in 2005 in a hospital drugged so bad he thought my father, his son, was his hunting buddy from 10 yrs ago and they just shot some good looking pheasants. Prior to dying close to 15-20 prior He was hooked to an oxygen tank 24/7.

OK?

My paternal step-grandfather smoked the pipe He died a long agonizing death and died before I could get the chance to really know him.

My father has asthma and it is by the grace of God that he is alive today! About 7 years ago he was given 4 years to live.

We do NOT joke about smoking and the dangers it causes in my family.

Thank you and have a nice day!

To each his own personally. If smoking is a sin well then I guess eating fast food would be too, but christians are all about their chick-fil-a. So I really dont see a point to the argument.

Gluttony is a sin.

Smoking isn't a sin per se however it is deeply unhealthy. It also helps foster a lack of self control, getting addicted to such an unhealthy thing.

Really? You want to go there? Let me ask YOU something, Nautilus. Do YOU, or anyone else, know for sure exactly what they are eating? I'll bet you think raw, ground beef is supposed to stay red or that burger from Burger King is really beef burger!

Unless a person raises their own food, NO ONE knows what they're eating!

Quite frankly, If you want to play strawman, talk to someone else. The issue is smoking not whether or not you're political about food.

Just saying you can single out one harmful thing if you are consuming other harmful things. Personally I don't think smoking is a sin. And as far as the 'addiction' part? well if it isn't coming between you and God then you should be fine. It may be harder to quit then heroin, but then youll still have a job and a home with a smoking addiction and not risk ODing form the nicotine.

Smoking is not a sin.
But don't you know that what goes inside the body is not what makes a man unclean? it is what comes out of his mouth.

Let those who have ears listen.

"Matthew 15.11
What goes into someone's mouth does not defile them, but what comes out of their mouth, that is what defiles them."

A Romanian monk said that the cigarette is the incense of the devil (as opposed to the incense that is used in church to purify and sanctify).
Smoking is a sin because it can make you unhumble and selfish, it destroys your health, the health of those around, it gives you addiction and it makes you spend a lot of money for cigarettes. This vice enslaves you.
I used to be a smoker and I repent for it. I regret the moment when I first put that abomination in my mouth.

Well smoking is a controversial subject. Some great old preachers were smokers. It was of course back when they did not know of the health risks. Smoking was at one time thought to be therapeutic. So was cocaine at one time. Live and learn.

Smoking will not send you to hell. It will only make you smell like you have already been there. I think Christians should abstain from smoking for the sake of their testimony for the Lord. I was a smoker before I was saved and do not like the smell of smoking. I may be more sensitive than many but just the same it is unnecessary, costly and of no real benefit.

I have witnessed many family members perish from smoking related cancers. Not a pleasant thing.

For the cause of Christ
