Actually not entirely true. Most people who think they know me through the forums but then get to know me on a more personal level realize i am quite different. Not on purpose. Just how i come across. Many people have seen me as scary and intimidating in the forums, but once they chat with me realize i'm not at all either of those things.
So even IF a person were to read a large number of my threads, that is still not knowing the individual. Just knowing About the individual. This person knew nothing more than a few thread posts.
And you're going off the assumption that they've read past posts and all current posts (probably not either one). So your best case scenario is also a very low likelihood.
I remember clashing with you in the early days of my time at CC. But then, as I got to know you better, I came to realise you're just a wise and blunt teddy bear of a man. :)

Yep, true for me as well. I think my general personality comes across as accurate but very few people here "really" know me. I've always admired your bluntness honestly and never took it as a negative thing. I suppose we all get ideas about how each other is....but honestly most of us don't know who each other is on a really deep level. Only person I would vouch for here that really knows me to the point where they could accurately describe me as I am is Seoulsearch. Not that I don't value the relationships I've built here with other people, but I think she's the only one that's qualified to make a true judgement.

So, i think it was yesterday i got a cmail. From a new user that i had seen just a little. This person hasn't been on CC long. Less than two weeks. Yet she felt she knew me well enough (despite us having never really interacted before) to message me and criticize my way of speaking. She doesn't know me. Know anything about me, who i am, what i've been through or what i struggle with. Yet after just walking in the door, so to speak, she felt it was her right to correct me.
I tried not to be bothered at first, to be patient and all. But the more time goes on the more annoying i find it to be that someone who basically knows nothing about me thinks it's their place to message me and question who i am. I know my shortcomings. And i know what shortcomings i think are worth working on vs what others are not as important to me. I don't really need some stranger to come here and think they know me well enough to inform me of things i already know, as if they have any right. Hopefully, next time, this person will take their time to learn about the person before thinking it's their right to correct others after reading a few posts.

I understand you being taken back by her note but replying in a kind way would be a good way for her to get to know and understand how you are. I have to admit when I first started reading your posts on CC I was a bit taken back, bit then as I started reading more I thought, I like his honesty. She shouldn't have jumped the gun until she got to know you, but as I said maybe responding with kindness will show her who you truly are.

Human nature still amazes me. People refuse to acknowledge things about themselves or claim they're open-minded but in reality they're not. We are all horribly self centered. God calling us sheep is extremely accurate.

Ugly really is a wise teddybear of a man. :) Though I have to say that when someone is more blunt in their postings, they are naturally going to be interacted with in a more blunt manner. It's just par for the course.

Thanks guys. Appreciate your comments.

And Fenner i did give a short, direct yet (i feel) reasonable response. As i said, my frustration came later.

Grace, i get that, but at least have interacted with me first is more the point. Or if i ask for advice. This was just someone i'd never interacted with, and under circumstances i didn't ask anything of anyone, who thought they knew enough to correct being a newer user on the site.

I feel the same way!!!

People read a few posts, look at my avatar, and then make all kinds of ...
errrr.. assumptions based on my ocular proclivities.

I have a heart too ya know!

I'm more than just a nearsighted cyclops!!!!

I GOT YOUR BACK UGLY!!!!
I just can't see it very well.

I chipped my front tooth. It doesn't look horrible but I can feel it. I go to the dentist on August 13th. I'll probably live.

I studied psychology in college, and I do think it's worth pointing out there's a decent chance the person is a long-standing member, who made a new account for reasons known only to them. Could be a fear of backlash, or not wanting to spoil a friendship.

My previous foot wound is doing better I suppose, but wouldn't you know it, I stepped on a piece of glass this morning right before work. Saturday I accidentally broke a glass cup on the kitchen floor, and I thought we had swept up all the pieces. Apparently not, because a shard got pushed into my pinky toe on the same foot that my heel got hurt.

I pulled what I could out before work (and I did pull a piece out), soaking it now on my lunch break and will try to see if there's any more in there. I guess at least it's in the same foot so it doesn't hurt to walk on both.

You're killing me, Smalls!
