You're imperfect, yet striving towards bettering yourself. I, for one, am glad you're imperfect. It allows us to be able to be friends. (=

lil_christian: kale is the new fad, the food they are touting this week as a superfood. Next week it'll be something else. But in the meantime, kale is good for you - about as good as any greens are. This superfood I can approve of because it gets people to eat their greens, which is usually a good idea health-wise. Better than acai berries were - remember that fad?

MissChris: You make me SOOOOO glad I live out in the country. But in one neighbor's defense I have to mention that running that semi truck for a few hours is something he should do. I don't know if it's necessary or just a good idea, but my cousin's husband drives a truck for a living and he does the same thing.

Haven't posted since I moved in. I'm doing better. The first day was really, really rough. I still haven't completely organized. It's little stuff that's left and it bores me so I procrastinate but I hope to get it all done this weekend.

I just got internet on Sunday. Actually, I got internet last Thursday, but I couldn't find a phone jack in my house. However, on Sunday I DID find out outside. OUTSIDE! In a box on the back of the house. So the cord runs from there up into my window. It's not a short distance at all and my window can still completely close, so not bad.

I also got a dog. A 6 month old puppy. She's been a challenge but she is a doll.

I have a crush on someone at work. It was nice not having a crush for a few months, but apparently my mind/heart thinks otherwise.

YES I remember acai berries. SOO annoying. Raspberry ketones. Those, too. OH and who can forget green coffee beans? I am ALL for natural things and natural weight loss SUPPORT products. But taking an acai berry pill 2-3 times a day while eating McDonald's DOES NOTHING. And I'm sure blueberries are just as good as acai berries.

At least Kale, while it's a fad, is actually decent for you. It does have a lot of nutrients that I don't get enough of due to the fact I A) have a hard time eating greens and B) I don't eat much milk product because anything beyond butter makes my stomach angry. And stuff like yogurt has calcium, vitamin A and K. Maybe a little iron. Though Kale is more nutritional than milk, I think.

As I said. The Kale chips are oddly satisfying. Like, my body is appreciating the good food I'm putting in it and it's just like "YES! THIS is what I needed. THANK YOU!" and then I don't want all that other junk.

I do live out in the country...just in a tiny (60 people tiny) town :p
The truck thing is probably a necessary thing, but it's still no fun to wake up to :p

The guy who lives across the street from us drives a semi in the summer time, hauling hay bales for local ranchers. But every morning, all winter long, he starts up his semi and lets it sit and idle for about three hours. I don't know if that's necessary, but it's directly across from my bedroom window, and he always starts it at five a.m.

I've been driving diesel powered trucks for over twenty years and just about every diesel manufacturer recommends against idling their engines for prolonged times. At an idle a diesel doesn't warm up enough to properly combust all the fuel and as a result the unburned fuel washes the oil film from the cylinder walls causing premature cylinder wall and ring wear. It's one thing to idle a truck for 15 to twenty minutes in extreme cold temps to allow it to warm up some, but three hours is a waste of fuel.

*Do NOT read this post if you have not seen The Giver or How To Train Your Dragon 1 and 2 because it will contain major spoilers.*

I don't know about you all, but I watch movies to feel better, not horribly traumatized as I do right now.

I watched The Giver a few days ago and had no idea that a major plot point includes killing newborn babies via lethal injections through their skulls (which the movie actually shows.)

In an effort to recover from this shocking horror, today I watched How to Train Your Dragon 2, which I had been eagerly anticipating. I LOVED the first movie because at the time, our country was heavily involved in several military conflicts. In the end, the main character loses a limb in the final battle, I thought it was a wonderful way to show children that those coming home from the war can still be loved, even if they have an injury.

What the heck is it with children's movies always killing off a parent? And worse, in this movie, they killed off the parent you'd grown to love and feel you had a relationship with, not the parent who just suddenly comes back out of thin air. AND AS IF THAT ISN'T BAD ENOUGH, our beloved TOOTHLESS is the one who kills Hiccup's father!!! Even the spectacular animation, amazing display of facial expressions, and music that was even better than the first wasn't enough to cheer me up.

I know I sound like a bit of a basket case. I mean, it's just a movie!! And one is a kid's movie at that!!! But lately I've been feeling the pain of loss especially hard so I guess that's what set it off. It's also probably because of stress at work, being sick and not seeming to get any better, finding out I think I'm allergic to yet another (maybe all) antibiotics, and feeling the heaviness of always being alone.

The funny thing is, I felt better watching The Expendables 3 last week than I do now--the bad guy gets his due, the good guys walk away happy, and sure, there's an injury but no one you really cared about died, all amidst a plethora of explosions and cool weapons. Now THAT'S a feel-good movie compared to these other 2.

Sigh. Maybe I just need to stop watching anything for a while.

Wow, Seoul. Go watch some Tim Hawkins comedy on YouTube. That should cheer you up. I'm still totally going to see those first two movies you mentioned though.

I saw How to Train Your Dragon 2 maybe a month and a half after my mom died.

I don't think I was ready for that one.

Lil, I am so sorry. :(

I hadn't read or heard anything about the movie because I wanted to be surprised. But the key word is surprised, not traumatized.

I can only imagine what kind of pain watching that scene must have inflicted. I am so very sorry. *hugs*

Something that many people won't understand is that I was also thinking of how in a way... to me at least... God is a little like Toothless. He's loves you more than anyone, He'll do anything to protect you, He would even give His life for yours...

But He still does things like take away your loved ones. Which I know is part of the life cycle that's been created and tainted here by sin... But I still have a hard time wrapping my head around the concept of Someone who loves us so much and yet stands by and allows so much pain to inflicted at the same time... Including allowing those we love to be taken from us.

I saw The Giver and Depends-ables, umm I mean Expendables 3.

I give the Giver 3.5 stars. (seemed too fantasy-like and a bit trite for me)

Depends-ables, umm I mean Expendables 3, I only give 2 stars. (It seemed like the last 20 minutes was the only part worth watching)

Yeah, the bad part is, I didn't even like the Expendables 3 (the second one was my favorite, I think, because there were more jokes from all their old movies) and yet I felt better watching that than I did these other two.

AGAIN, DO NOT READ IF YOU DON'T WANT TO READ A MAJOR TWIST IN THE GIVER.

I was reading a summary of the scene in which the baby is killed, solely because the baby is a twin and weighs just "one unit less" than the other, thereby deeming it the weaker of the two. In the online summary, there was puzzlement as to why both twins were not allowed to survive. (Think of Esau and Jacob... Jacob seemed to be the scrawnier of the two... surely he would have been the one to be killed off. But, they were also fraternal twins, which may or may not have made a difference.)

The thing about this supposed utopian society is that everyone is Mostly The Same (a common theme in all such stories.) Major differences are not allowed because it is believed that differences cause conflict, and conflict leads to war. I do have to say that I was very impressed by the main character's observation that Sameness had not eliminated murder, but rather, murder had simply been repackaged.

My own conclusion as to why a set of twins were not both allowed to survive is because it would disrupt the Rule of Sameness. Perhaps fraternal twins were allowed to survive, I'm not sure, seeing as babies were now assigned and no longer born to parents. But if the babies were identical twins... having a twin would set you apart.

Ironically, looking almost exactly like another person would also exclude you from the Rule of Sameness (my own made-up term, not something from the movie) because how many other people have an identical twin?

Looking like someone else would make you Different, and Differences were not allowed.

I liked the first Expendables the best, based solely its merit as an action movie. I thought the second one was just ok. This last one was just way too over the top for me lol. There's a fine line between great action and gratituous, unrealistic baloney lol.
