Am I the only one that can't wait for Christmas to be over with? :l

I can't wait for Christmas to get here. With the family all converging on Grandma's house for Christmas breakfast... Buttermilk biscuits, cheese and eggs, sausage, white gravy... playing Dirty Santa...

Now the rom-com movies Grandma watches on Hallmark channel, those can go. The holiday-themed ones and all the others too.

violakat: Think how much taller you are than the cat. That has to be a bit daunting for the feline. Try tuna to lure the cat out.

And don't be too jealous... my cat died last winter. And my current dog I fear would eat a cat if I got another one. But she was a sweetheart, my little Nancia.

As loud as muskets?

**Thank you all who prayed for me! I did a system restore and my program is running smoothly again! Praise the Lord!**

Woo on the system restore, and high five on the musket comment.

I have done much thinking on this. I think I'll give the shotgun equal footing on the decibel front, but not on the awesomeness front. Muskets have this sort of old school vibe that is just special. Plus muskets are on the classy gentleman side of things - a historically correct smooth bore long gun is usually quite expensive, and it requires a lot of upkeep. It's the fine watch of the projectile world.

Though there are muzzle loading shotguns, which are exactly what they sound like - the black powder equivalent of a shotgun. You measure your own powder charge, you load them from the bore, and you pack them yourself with a ram rod. In fact they are all smooth bores, so they are more musket-like than most muzzle loaders are (since most of those are rifled).

I'm having a Christmas cookie melt-down...and I haven't even started baking yet. In fact, I don't even have the supplies to do said baking yet.

I was going to make some Andes mint-chip cookies, and probably still will, because they're easy and tasty.
And I was going to make some cherry-coconut bars, but probably won't, because I would eat them all.
I want to make sugar cookies and have my son help decorate them, so I'll most likely do that this weekend.
And then I got out my Betty Crocker Cooky Book, and started browsing through the Christmas cookies, and found ten other cookies I want to make, none of which are easy, all of which are old-fashioned, and only some of which I think anyone would actually eat, but they're all so pretty...
And after all that went through my head, I got totally overwhelmed and decided that maybe I'll just hand out empty plates with a note that says "Sorry, Santa got here first".

Right. Sugar cookies it is. AND THAT'S FINAL.

And maybe candy cane cookies, too, and maybe the Andes mint cookies, plus maaaaaybe some chocolate crinkles or fudge. But that's ALL.

My sister has tried for three days now to make spritz cookies. She made the dough, and now she just has to make them. Three days. We aren't even halfway done, and we didnt make a large batch either.

I better do that for her before tonight. Because guess what? I am able to go to the concert my sister backed out of. A lady from a prayer group my mom went to and I go to occasionally is a fan of the artist I'm seeing and she said she can take me! I'm really thankful. God bless her.

I think I really annoyed someone today, and I'm trying to wrack my brain to figure out what it was I did. Or how I can not do that to someone else. It's surprising how much it's bother me right now.

lil_christian: Yay for getting to go to the concert! :D :D Who's singing?

On Christmas Eve we exchange gifts. On Christmas Day we assemble for a family breakfast (which is always a big production in our family, and a good time) and then we adjourn to the living room to play Dirty Santa.

Everyone brings a $10 gift, wrapped so nobody can see what it is. Everyone draws a number from 1 to however many came. Whomever drew 1 picks a gift, unwraps it and holds it for everyone to see. Whomever drew 2 can either get another wrapped gift or take 1's gift. If 2 takes 1's gift, 1 can get another gift. By the time we get to 13 and 14, some gifts have changed hands five or six times. And if 9 takes 8's gift, 8 can take 4's gift, and then 4 can take 9's gift... it can get into a little strategy if someone REALLY wants a certain item. =^.^= All in fun of course.

I thought my parents were making progress, but I guess I was wrong. My brother and I are pooling our resources to buy my mom a Christmas present from the two of us, and I just now asked my dad if he wanted to pitch in and join us in choosing a gift. He looked at me with an aggressive expression and said "no". At first I thought he may have been joking, due to his very dry sense of humor, but I quickly realized he wasn't when he held his cold stare and continued "your mama and I...I don't know if we have any future together".

My grandmother in the Philippines had a stroke two days ago and is in the hospital. My mom spread the prayer request around as fast as possible and we had dozens of people joining us in prayer, and last night we got an update that while she is still weak, she is actually able to move and speak. The doctors don't know what to make of it! She'll be there for a few more days so they can monitor her. Her husband, my grandfather, is also in the same hospital currently undergoing a series of tests. The doctors suspect he has cancer.

I feel really bad for my mom. This is a lot for her to take in, even without her marriage problems.

That's how I got them to start eating again, after they had a very traumatic time with three dogs (previous owner), and a very scary ride going up the stairs.

So tomorrow I'm going to be baking much bread for Sunday. Once more I will be in chat, hoping against hope that someone will come in and talk. Mostly I'll be watching the people come in and go out while I wait for the bread to rise twice.

Anyone want to chat tomorrow? I hope?

I'm sorry to hear about your parents continuing marriage problems Love. :( I am wondering if him being gone for prolonged periods has helped or made it worse? He just returned from a long trip, I think I remember? Either way, it's so hard, on them as well as you and your brother.

I'm thankful though that your grandmother is starting to recover! I'll be praying for her, your grandfather, and both your parents. *hugs*

Is this at a normal time for normal people?

It's always dead in there when I go in.
