Jesus said He NEVER knew them which meant they were NEVER saved. John 17:3 - And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. The term "know" implies intimate, experiential knowledge, through a relationship with Him, not merely theoretical knowledge. These many people did not have this relationship with Christ because they were not born again believers. It was their unbelief that kept them from receiving eternal life (John 3:18). These many people were clearly trusting in their works to save them...Lord, Lord, didn't WE do many wonderful works, in which their answer was a manifestation of their unbelief. Their works are what they were trusting in for salvation and not in CHRIST ALONE. Sound familiar?

They continued to live a sinful lifestyle because they were not children of God, but children of the devil. They did not do the will of the Father by looking to the Son and believing in Him to receive eternal life (John 6:40). Those who practice lawlessness/practice sin are children of the devil, not children of God (1 John 3:7-10). They did not repent and believe the gospel, so they did not become new creations in Christ, so disobedience to the Lord/walking in the flesh was the natural result. A bad tree cannot produce good fruit (Matthew 7:18). The false premise on the teaching of Matthew 7:21-23 is that these many people were "born again Christians" who did not receive eternal life (lost their salvation) because they practiced lawlessness/sin. These many people were lost because they did not believe in Him (cause) and practicing lawlessness/sin was the (effect).

I understand that about Matthew 7:21-23 that they were never saved, but we can not take one passage and apply it to everybody who falls away from the faith. That would be a false misconception, as Jesus Himself even said some will abide in the faith for a little while then fall away do to trials or deceptions. To you and the rest of the OSAS crowd you believe when a person abides in the faith they are automatically saved so they can not become unsaved. Yet there are multiple scriptures that say some will depart (leave) from the faith.
Now some take and want to twist that wording to say fall away or depart does not really mean they were in it to begin with. That is just a faulty debate because you can not depart from something you were never in, as in if you take a flight you can not depart from the airport if you never go to it.

Mark 4:15-20
15 Some people are like seed along the path, where the word is sown. As soon as they hear it, Satan comes and takes away the word that was sown in them.

16 Others, like seed sown on rocky places, hear the word and at once receive it with joy.
17 But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away.

18Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word;
19 but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful.

20 Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop--thirty, sixty or even a hundred times what was sown."

I did answer your question but obviously you did not like what I wrote, or did not even read what I wrote......

Once again the death penalty of being put to death in the flesh did come through the Mosaic laws written ordinances.
Now we are still in the faith still held to the moral laws of God placed in our hearts and mind, and Paul and Jesus clearly show by being in the faith and walking in love establishes and upholds all the commandments including the 10. And continuing to break the commandments now being under grace no longer faces the death penalty in the flesh, but instead God's judgment and the lake of fire for trampling the blood of the Lord by continuing in disobedience to the faith.

Please stop trying to avoid my question by coming back with conjecture and questions of your own as if I avoided your when I clearly answered it.

Why does Jesus and Paul both show that faith and love will establish and uphold the commandments including the 10, thus fulfilling them if they do not apply and been done away with ???

The written form with ordinances was done away, not the moral commands......................
So let me get this strait......

1. The righteousness of God without the law is manifested being witnessed by the law and the prophets
2. Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto ALL them that believe
3. The condemnation of the law is no longer hanging over the heads of all who believe
4. The righteousness of Christ has been imputed unto all who believe
5. Christ has taken our sin upon him and paid the debt ONCE FOR ALL
6. We have been rendered INNOCENT (legally justified) by faith from the law
7. The law is a schoolmaster and condemns us while pointing us to Christ...the one who heals us
8. The entire law can be summed up in Loving God and Loving your neighbor
9. It is Christ that does the works through us by the Spirit of God

And you still tie works, keeping the laws to Christ for eternal life........good luck with that.....I will take Christ at his word...

I am saved, justified, sanctified eternally and Sealed eternally by faith.....my works have NOTHING AT ALL TO DO WITH gaining salvation as that is based upon the work, ministry and mediation of JESUS as my High priest who has entered ONCE FOR ALL to make reconciliation for my SINS....all who teach you can lose it and or must maintain it, facilitate it, gain it or keep it by what you do denies the working of Christ on your behalf and you teach a gospel which has no power to save, much less keep you saved and or get a salvation back that can be lost (so-called)

I think your getting the wrong Idea here, the works are Christ in you, if the works are not present then Christ is not in you.

Exactly correct, the righteous works are done by Christ working in and through us by His Holy Spirit and His fruits, no fruit/works present means Christ does not abide in you and therefore not headed to eternal life.

[h=1]Colossians 1:21-23[/h]21 And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled 22 in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight—

23if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister.

For this debate to have any worth while fruit we need to move past faith vs works cause no one here thinks works save. and ask the pertinent questions which are:

What is faith?

What are the works that come from faith?

That is getting closer to the issue.

Does the bible teach that obedience is a fruit of being in faith? simple.

Rom 1:5 By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name:

Rom 5:19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

Rom 6:16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?

Rom 16:26 But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:

2Co 10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

And so on and so on. so faith brings obedience, what does a person who has Faith obey?

Yes we should because I constantly get falsely accused of being works based to earn salvation, which I do not preach teach or agree with. I agree with a works of the Spirit go hand and hand with faith for salvation, because like me and you agree on the bible says no fruits of the Spirit present no salvation. Plus the bible makes it clear that we are to be zealous about urging others to do good works !!!

Falling away for good do to trials or deceptions demonstrates a faith that is not firmly rooted and established in Christ from the start. Notice in John 6:51-61 that these many so called disciples of Jesus were offended by His words and in verse 66, we read that many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more. In verse 64, Jesus clearly said - But there are some of you who do not believe. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who would betray Him. In John 8:31, Jesus said "if you continue in My word, then you are TRULY my disciples." Those who do not continue are not TRULY His disciples.

Now some take and want to twist that wording to say fall away or depart does not really mean they were in it to begin with. That is just a faulty debate because you can not depart from something you were never in, as in if you take a flight you can not depart from the airport if you never go to it.
Not everyone who claims to be a genuine Christian really is, so someone may fall away from being among a group of believers, yet were never truly saved themselves.

The shallow ground hearer is contrasted with that of the "good ground" hearer, who's heart was "good" and "honest." Thus, his heart was "not good," being like the soil to which it corresponds, being "shallow" or "rocky," lacking sufficient depth. People who the word with joy (emotional response) and believe (in a shallow way) without a good and honest heart, and without having "root" in themselves, do not experience real salvation. But the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root.." Problem from the start. Temporary shallow belief that was not firmly rooted or established from the start "has no root" represents rocky soil. Then we see the results of this. Temporary shallow belief, no root, lacks moisture, no fruit, withers away. If this is saving faith, then where is the fruit?

18Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word;
19 but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful.
In regards to the thorny soil, the word was choked out before reaching it's desired goal, making it [unfruitful]. The word is choked and therefore does not produce a renewed spiritual life in the person; "the anxieties of the age and the pleasures of wealth chokes the message. The worries of life and the delusions of wealth have the effect of stifling the word/gospel, such that the person does not bear the fruit of salvation. The thorny ground hearer was not fruitful but later became unfruitful, as some argue. Put a stop to the growth of the word and it gives no fruit (Bible in Basic English) is not the same thing as saying, "gives fruit but then later stops producing fruit." The potential to eventually produce fruit was there, but the word was choked out before reaching it's desired goal. It (the seed, the word) became unfruitful (produces nothing, proves unfruitful, does not produce fruit, yields nothing), because the growth of the word was choked. In the Complete Jewish Bible we read, Now the seed sown among thorns stands for someone who hears the message, but it is choked by the worries of the world and the deceitful glamor of wealth, so that it produces nothing. Nothing amounts to nothing and nothing was mentioned about it ever producing something. Faith without works is dead.

20 Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop--thirty, sixty or even a hundred times what was sown."
In contrast, we read in Matthew 13:23 - "And the one on whom seed was sown on the good soil, this is the man who hears the word and understands it; who INDEED BEARS FRUITand brings forth, some a hundredfold, some sixty, and some thirty." Only the 4th soil produced crops of any size. I suppose the question still remains, "can this forth soil eventually become fruitless?" I have to conclude that if this were possible, why didn't Christ include such a scenario before concluding? There is mention of a difference in the size of the crops, but no consequences or warnings are given to the lesser producers. Only the 4th soil was referred to as "good ground" and produced a crop (fruit) and there is NO MENTION OF CHOKING OR WITHERING THEREAFTER.

Why do you lump all faith into one group? There are 2 kinds of faith - heart faith and head faith.

Heart Faith
Rom_10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Head Faith
Jas 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

Head faith falls away but heart faith never falls.... it comes from God. If God's faith is in us we don't fall away. You lump all faith into one category and it's leading you astray. The people in the verse you were talking about above fell away because they had head faith, it never took root in their hearts.

I understand the sower and the seed, and like I said if you believe that when one abides in the faith they are saved then you can not apply they were not truly saved to begin with as no biblical scripture gives that notion. This is one of those man made interjections into scripture done when the context is not liked. A couple of the groups in that parable says they abide in the faith for a little while, but they do not continue because of hardships or deceptions.
It is a shame that some will constantly use that excuse of were not truly saved to begin with, as that is a way of making one out to be better than another. Instead we should spend more time helping these who are weak stay in the faith instead of just making excuses for them why they fell away. I have actually seen a couple on here say caring about others and caring about where they end up is not our responsibility. That is just plain ridiculous!!!

Matthew 24:10-13

And then many will fall away and betray one another and hate one another. And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray. And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold. But the one who endures to the end will be saved.

1 Timothy 4:1

Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

James 5:19-20

My brethren, if any among you strays from the truth and one turns him back,
let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.

Why because there is only 1 true faith in Christ;

Luke 6:46-49

And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?

Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like: He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.

But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.

I have to disagree with you here.

Faith is by definition trust.

There are 2 kinds of belief:

1) credence = mental assent

2) commitment = credence + faith

Abides in what faith?

Abides in the faith in Jesus Christ, for no faith in any other thing saves.
The faith in Christ though is not an unactive faith, as the bible clearly shows it is an active faith do to the fruits that will be produced by the Spirit. The bible makes clear no fruits = no Holy Spirit = not born again = no salvation....

That's the problem, there are 2 types of faith (which you will not acknowledge) and you lump them all into one and then try to tell other people that they can lose their salvation by quoting head faith passages.

From what I gather from your post. Your faith is placed in what you do and not in what God did. Leaning to our self is not pleasing nor acceptable by God. He will only accept faith in the cross and nothing else.

No my faith is in the Lord Jesus Christ and what He did and is doing for and through me.
He gave me remission of sins by dying on the cross, and showing me how to receive that remission through repentance and baptism/born again. As He clearly says no repentance and not being born again through baptism will have those not inherit eternal life, for you have to repent and be born again for salvation.
I lean on the fruits of the Spirit that are evident in my life that will be evident in all true born again believers showing proof that they are abiding in Christ and Christ in them. The bible says no fruits of the Spirit evident in a persons life they are not born again unto salvation.

I am zealous for the works of the Spirit and urge others to produce good works as we are all told to do in the faith.
Nowhere does the bible say sit back, do nothing, you are saved unto salvation. The bible gives two examples of a lazy or disobedient servant, and in both their outcome is not eternal life.
